Recap / Fates Collide Ch 9 Outclassed

Go To

Archer impatiently waits outside a girls bathroom as Cinder changes from her red dress into a more combat ready outfit. When she is finished, he says it would be more practical to wear that outfit from the start. She says she likes her fashion. Besides, he should be used to being around beautiful women, as his old partners were considered among the most beautiful women in Apocrypha. He becomes upset and tells her not to talk about them again.

Someone asked to speak to Cinder, so Archer leads her to a church. She has no idea what a church is, which surprises him, but he tells her to go inside. He stays outside, saying he doesn't get along with the person inside, and tells her to watch what she says. Inside, she meets a young man in priest attire, who introduces himself as Shirou Kotomine. She becomes shocked because he has a similar face and name to Archer. He says she can call him Amakusa if she wants.

He says he is a Ruler and oversees the church, and would like to welcome her to Apocrypha. She points out they already met a Ruler, Jeanne, and asks why he wasn't with her to greet them when they arrived. He singled her out because he wants to learn her intentions. She claims she is just a student who wants to learn new techniques. He tells her to cut the crap, because he knows she had stolen half of the Fall Maiden's power. As she is shocked, he explains that although her Class Card doesn't say anything about that, her complete information was sent to the church. She reiterates that she just wants to learn new techniques unique to Apocrypha. He asks her what she plans to do once she learns them. She summons a sword into her hand with Dust, but he runs up to her in a split second and holds three blades between his fingers up to her chin. He asks if she was planning to use her new skills to conquer Apocrypha or another kingdom, and she denies it, as she wants power for its own sake. He says that is selfish, but now that he has his answer, he doesn't care what she does now. He says he won't tell anyone about her secret, and hands her some small pieces of red wood, saying they are called Black Keys and can turn into blades like his.

Outside, she meets Archer and is shaken up by being so helpless. He says there are so many powerful people here, so she should watch herself. She swears she will learn all there is to know and become stronger than ever before. He sighs and says to come on as they have class soon.

Ruby, Yang, Astolfo, and Mordred come to an arena. Waiting for them are Cu Chulainn, now in a skintight blue outfit, and a stern woman in a business suit with a cylindrical container on her back. The woman says they are late for class, and Astolfo says to cut them some slack. Cu Chulainn introduces himself and his partner, Bazett Fraga McRemitz. Bazett says she and Ch Chulainn will fight Ruby and Yang right now. Scared, Astolfo and Mordred offer to fight Ruby and Yang, but Bazett says she can better gauge their combat skill herself. Astolfo and Mordred tell the two that they are screwed because Bazett's hand to hand skill is unmatched and she shows no mercy, so they are likely to get broken bones.

As the fight begins, Ruby summons her gun/scythe Crescent Rose, Yang summons her shotgun gauntlets Ember Celica, and Cu Chulainn summons a red spear, but Bazett simply puts up her fists. Bazett charges and Ruby tries to shoot her, but she blocks the bullets. Bazett and Yang's fists collide, but Yang is left stunned by the impact, then Bazett punches her with her other hand and knocks her through a wall. Yang emerges, and is shocked to find she is bleeding. Bazett scolds her for being over reliant on Aura to protect against injuries.

Ruby is so distracted by this that Cu Chulainn runs up and impales her through the chest. Enraged, Yang attacks him and he blocks it. She yells at him for going so far in a training match. He retorts they are preparing them for actual life or death fights, so they can't afford to be soft. Case in point, Bazett then sucker punches Yang, forcing Yang to fight her.

Ruby gets up and she clashes her scythe with his spear a few times. He compliments her weapon and she compliments his in return, but comments that it seems ordinary. He says she is wrong and declares its name, "Gae Bolg!", before hurling it. She side steps it, but it turns in midair and impales her again.

Bazett effortlessly blocks or parries all of Yang's attacks, even her bullets, while her own attacks hit their mark. She scolds Yang and remarks she is strong, but without skill, she will not get anywhere. Angered, Yang activates her Semblance and is surrounded by flames.

Cu Chulainn says he was careful not to hit any of Ruby's organs, but she should quit because she lost a lot of blood. She refuses, then notices her weapon is damaged. She remembers she left her repair kit in her locker at Beacon Academy, then pulls out her scroll and summons it. He calls her out on ignoring her opponent in the middle of a fight, but Ruby's rocket propelled locker lands on him, knocking him out cold. She says she didn't mean to do that, but Astolfo and Mordred congratulate her. Despite being weakened from blood loss, she rushes toward Yang and Bazett's battle unarmed, causing Astolfo and Mordred to cover their faces and sigh.

Bazett simply trips Ruby when she approaches, knocking her out. Yang puts her everything into one final punch, only to be shocked when Bazett catches it with one hand and is unaffected when her jacket is set on fire. Bazett punches her with her other hand and knocks her out. She tells Astolfo and Mordred to take Ruby and Yang to the infirmary. Then she pulls the locker off Cu Chulainn and carries him away. Mordred says at least they got out of class early.
