Recap / Fates Collide Ch 53 Heating Up

Go To

Two weeks later, Cinder and Chloe spar in the rooftop garden while Irisviel supervises. Chloe summons several swords and hurls them. They chase Cinder around, then Chloe closes the gap and tries to strike her. At the last second, Cinder makes her swords become red hot, so they destroy all of Chloe's swords with one strike each. Chloe compliments the move, then they continue the fight.

Archer approaches with food and tea. He points out Kiritsugu has been gone for a while, and Irisviel says he's on a mission to find someone. He says Kiritsugu recommended him for the Grand Order before he left, but he doesn't want to participate. Disappointed, she says his father has been recommending him year after year and he never joins. He says on the day the Grand Order takes place, he's volunteering to help fix up the fishing town that got wrecked by Grimm earlier. She says she recommended Cinder for the Grand Order and she had been hoping he would watch. Curious, he asks what their wishes will be. She doesn't know Cinder's wish, but her wish will be that Archer and Cinder get married. He gets incredibly shocked and asks if she has lost it. He gets even more exasperated when she says she hasn't told Cinder, Kiritsugu, Illya, or Chloe about this. She says she just wants him to be happy, and he is happy when he is with Cinder. She has faith Cinder will win the tournament. Archer quickly claims the tea is cold and uses that excuse to leave. She smiles and says he's just as shy as his father. Since Cinder and Chloe were sparring, they didn't hear what the two said, so they are confused why Archer ran off.

Outside the school, Pyrrha and Karna spar with Vlad supervising them. After a few spear clashes, Vlad tells them to take to the air. Karna glows red and flies, while Pyrrha uses Polarity on her own armor to levitate. After a few more clashes, Pyrrha uses Gae Milo: Blast, firing a black beam from her spear, which Karna blocks. Vlad tells them to wrap it up, so Karna uses Vasavi Shakti. Fire erupts from his body and his armor is destroyed. He fires a massive beam of flames from his spear. Pyrrha uses Gae Milo: Barrier to channel Polarity into her spear and create a magnetic force field that blocks the beam.

Vlad tells them to stop and says they were excellent and should do well in the Grand Order. Karna says he doesn't want to compete, as he wouldn't be able to fight his brother one on one. Vlad says that's a shame, but he is recommending Pyrrha. He tells her to get some rest before the big announcement tonight, then walks away. Karna congratulates her on her progress. She says she once thought she reached her limit, but now she knows she has no limit and her goal is to be undefeated. He says he knows a new recipe for bread that he'd like her to try, but she suddenly punches him and says she knows he was holding back his last attack. He says if he used Vasavi Shakti at full power, it would have incinerated a quarter of the countryside. They have to be responsible with their powers. She says she'll remember that. They walk away and hold hands, and she thanks him for helping her.

Near the edge of Apocrypha, Bazett and Kirei drive down a dirt road. Bazett is getting frustrated because it has been a month since they started this mission and they haven't found any humanoid Grimm. The small towns they pass by have seen them, but lately, the towns have been saying the sightings have stopped. They come to the same town Arturia, Shirou, Rin, and Sakura investigated years ago, where Sakura was killed. It is still abandoned, has the crater, and a deep gash where Arturia used Excalibur. They look in the crater and find it seemingly empty, but they spot something inside and climb in. They find a pile of over a hundred humanoid Grimm corpses. Grimm bodies normally dissolve into thin air when they die. The two can tell the bodies are dissolving, but slowly. Kirei pulls the mask off a female corpse. Her face looks like a human woman's, but it is twisted in agony, meaning she died in pain. Bazett notes her arm is shattered and deduced she was tortured before dying.

Suddenly, a kunai flies at Bazett's head, but Kirei blocks it with his Black Keys. They spot the person who threw it retreating from the crater's edge. They leap out of the crater and see the attacker run into an alley. They follow but find the alley empty. Kirei examines a manhole cover, thinking the attacker escaped into the sewer, but they hear a noise and look up to see the attacker was above them in the fire escape. She is a young girl with greyish skin and purple hair, wearing a bone mask, leggings, and two straps that wrap around her neck and cover her breasts, leaving her back and sides bare. She lunges at Kirei, but Bazett pulls a metal ball out of the cylindrical container on her back and punches it. The ball flies like a cannonball and grazes the girl's hip, knocking her out of the air, while the ball then punches a hole through the wall. Her mask comes off and Kirei catches it.

The girl struggles to get up, but is in too much pain. Kirei asks if she is a Grimm. She confirms it and says her name is Serenity. Kirei and Bazett say they were on a mission to try to make peaceful contact with the humanoid Grimm. Serenity says for the past month, her kind had been regularly slaughtered by two humans. They retreated to this town, but now it seems she is the only one left. She attacked them because she thought they were her attackers, but now she sees they are different and she apologizes. Kirei hands her mask back and they offer her sanctuary in Chaldea Academy. Kirei attempts to help her up, but she warns them that her skin is poisonous and she can't turn it off. Kirei says they have scientists who could help her with that, making her very happy. Serenity is able to stand on her own. Bazett gets a little grumpy because by the time they get back, they will miss the Grand Order. Kirei says it's a shame, and he wonders how the exchange students are doing. The three of them get into the car and drive away.

In the shadows, a middle aged man glares at the leaving car. He sips from a flask and tells his partner that they will follow them until the time is right. His partner is almost invisible in the darkness, except for his dark aura outlining his disheveled hair, red eyes, and sinister smile.
