Recap / Fates Collide Ch 47 Taking The Heat

Go To

Roman Torchwick takes Junior's phone call and says he'll let Cinder know that a certain man is still alive. He walks into the bookstore Tukson's Book Trade and the owner Tukson is not happy to see him. Roman says he needs the book The Pillar of Light, so Tukson walks to the back to get it. Nobunaga walks in and Roman gets scared and briefly mistakes her for Ruby Rose before realizing she is not her. Tukson comes back with the book. Roman pays for it and Tukson tells him Chapter 6 is the best part. Roman looks in it and finds that the pages for Chapter 6 have been cut out so a flash drive could be embedded in it, exactly what he was looking for.

Nobunaga tells Tukson that she was looking for Volume 8 of a certain comic book, but the shelves only have it up to Volume 7. Tukson says it is probably sold out, but decides to check the back. Roman tells her she shouldn't read comic books as they will rot her brain, but she snatches his book out of his hand. She insults it, saying it is probably one of those long and boring books that don't have pictures. He grabs the book and they briefly play tug-o-war with it. He threatens her with his cane that has a built in gun, but she summons a rifle, scaring him. Tukson comes back with the comic book and is shocked by what is going on. Nobunaga and Roman fire at the same time and knock each other's hats off, angering them both while the book falls to the ground.

Angered, Tukson orders them to get out, but Roman shoots him in the chest with an explosive round, killing him. Nobunaga dives for the book, but Roman fires a grappling hook from his cane to snag it. However, the book hits a bookshelf and it gets buried in a pile of books. Roman frantically searches the pile and finds it, but Nobu shoots the book and destroys it, then holds her rifle to his head. He says she doesn't have the guts to kill him. She says if she, someone from another kingdom, murdered him, it might cause a war, but he shot her hat, so she doesn't care, horrifying him. He notices the flash drive is intact and dives for it, firing an explosive round to distract her with the explosion. He shoots at her several times. She dodges each shot, but the shots set the bookshelves on fire. He then fires his grappling hook. Again she dodges, but he uses the hook to pull a burning bookshelf on top of her, knocking her out. He then escapes the burning building, rejoicing that the flash drive is intact. He walks away, muttering that whoever that girl was, she is not his problem anymore.

Some firefighters arrive and attempt to put out the burning building, but Nobunaga emerges with an insane look on her face, unaffected by the flames. She clutches the now burnt comic book. The firefighters are frightened of her, but try to ask her what happened. With a sadistic smile, she says she will take care of who did this. The building collapses, and when they turn back to her, she is gone.

In a noodle shop under an overpass, Musashi finishes her sixth bowl of noodles. She checks the time on her scroll and comments she should return to Vimana soon. She tries to pay for her meal with her Class Card, but the elderly owner throws it back to her and points at a sign saying the store only accepts liens, the kingdom's currency. She nervously says she doesn't have any, so the man points at another sign saying if you can't pay, work it off. She says she has to leave soon, but the man points at another sign saying employees get a free lunch. She smiles.

Back in Einzbern Castle, Cinder works on her laptop in the rooftop garden, with Chloe asleep in a chair. Archer attempts to cover Chloe with a blanket, but Cinder's scroll rings, waking her up. Roman says he got the flash drive. He sends the contents to her, then she tells him to destroy the flash drive and erase the data on his end. He tells her Tukson is dead and that a certain someone is still alive. She says she will let "him" know and hangs up. Archer asks what was that last part and she says it is a private matter.

Cinder pulls up one of the video files and types in a password to unlock it. The title reads "Subject: Sakura Matou. Kingdom: Apocrypha. Program Title: BB." The video comes on and shows Sakura attempting to set up a video diary. Archer says she is in their team's old room, judging by the background, and the date shows it is six months before she was killed, but he didn't know she had a video diary. A shocked Chloe points out the video is over three hundred hours long. Sakura says she stopped writing in her physical diary because her brother Shinji would threaten to show it to people if she didn't do his homework for him. Fortunately, she just found a program from Atlas that acts as a video diary. Archer asks to stop the video.

Cinder finds another file that says an android with an AI can generate Aura if it has emotions, the stronger and wider range of emotions, the stronger the Aura. Atlas has been basing its AI's personalities on the content of video diaries it has been collecting. The longer and more emotional the diaries, the better. However, if an AI ever learns of its true origins and identity, it will uncontrollably delete itself. Horrified, Archer realizes that if he kept questioning BB about her resemblance to Sakura, he would have killed her. Cinder says they are lucky Rin is keeping her distance from BB. He asks why Atlas sent BB to Apocrypha, Sakura's homeland, where people would recognize her. Cinder explains the file says Sakura only hung out with her teammates and the King of Knights. Since the King of Knights is missing, Shinji got expelled and left the kingdom, and Shirou and Rin changed their names, Atlas believed there would be no one who would recognize her.

Archer angrily says Atlas desecrated Sakura's memory and asks what Atlas hoped to gain from this. Cinder somberly says it is an experiment to see if the dead can be used to create programmable soldiers to replace the army. Confused, Chloe asks what is wrong with that, as Kairi Sisigou uses dead bodies as tools all the time. Archer explains all of their fallen gave Sisigou permission to use their bodies to continue protecting Apocrypha. Sakura never agreed to this project. She was told her video diary would be private, but Atlas stole its contents to make BB. He thanks Cinder for finding out the truth and walks away, saying he will resume training her after he helps a student and teacher with their training. Chloe asks if he will be okay, and he smiles and says he will. Cinder and Chloe comment his smile was fake. They sadly look up at the shattered moon and say it is beautiful tonight.

An exhausted Roman sleeps in a chair after destroying the flash drive, but is awoken by a gun shot. He tries to reach his cane, but it is destroyed by another shot. Nobunaga emerges from the shadows holding two rifles, with several more floating around her. Her eyes and hair have turned red.
