Recap / Fates Collide Ch 32 Learning Curve

Go To

Outside the Academy, Pyrrha spars with Vlad, who wields a uniquely shaped spear. After a few exchanges, he causes dark red stakes to erupt out of the ground. She dodges them, but the distraction allows him to get close and thrust his spear. She tries to take control of it with Polarity, but he is strong enough to overpower the magnetic force and gives her a small cut on the forearm. He tells her she relies on her Semblance too much and she has lost. She says the cut is not that serious and she can keep going, but he says a battle can be decided with a single blow. He asks her what his special ability is. She examines the stakes, which seem to be made of hardened blood, and guesses it is ground manipulation. He corrects her, as his Noble Phantasm is the concept of impalement itself. Shocked, she says that is impossible, but he says she is limiting her thinking and such things are indeed possible. His Noble Phantasm, Kazikli Bey, allows him to summon stakes from anywhere in his territory, namely the land of Apocrypha. He can also summon stakes from anything his spear touched, like the cut he gave Pyrrha. She is terrified, but he assures her he won't use it on her as long as she follows his orders. He then asks her what her Noble Phantasm's true power is.

Pyrrha thinks about Polarity and her weapons, but isn't sure what the right answer is. They hear a crash and look up to see two men, one glowing red and the other glowing blue, flying through the sky and clashing. Vlad tells the two to stop fighting and come down, but they ignore him. Displeased, he clenches his fist and the two are suddenly impaled by stakes coming out of their bodies. They fall out of the sky and make craters. She is horrified, but he says it will take more than that to kill them.

As they walk over, he tells her to examine their weapons closely. The two men are not glowing anymore. The red one gets up. He has pale skin and white hair, wearing a skintight black bodysuit and golden armor, wielding a golden spear with a sun-shaped head. Emotionlessly, he asks Vlad why he interrupted their battle as he was winning. Vlad says he can fight after he introduces himself to the new transfer student, and he introduces Pyrrha, calling her one of Vale's finest Huntresses. The man introduces himself as Karna. Vlad says Karna is a Lancer and one of the school's strongest students, to the point even Vlad himself has trouble keeping up with him. Karna snarks that is because Vlad is old, annoying him. Karna asks Pyrrha if she is the strongest Vale has to offer, but she says she is not sure. Vlad says arrogance is undesirable, but so is too much modesty. Pyrrha then says between Team RWBY and Team JNPR, they are all probably in the top ten. The other man gets up. He has dark skin and short brown hair, wearing a completely white outfit and white shoes and carrying a longbow. Vlad introduces him as Arjuna, one of the strongest Archers and Karna's brother. Arjuna says he wishes Vlad didn't interrupt their battle as he was winning. Karna says it is almost lunchtime and he is going into town for some bread. Arjuna says he is going back to his room to eat. Pyrrha suggest they eat together but they say no and leave.

Vlad sighs and says those brothers are always bickering and if they ever learned to work together, they would be unstoppable. He asks Pyrrha if she thinks she could defeat either of them. She says no, because while they were talking, she tried to move their weapons with Polarity, but it didn't work. Vlad says Arjuna's bow has Divinity and Karna's lance is made of gold, rendering them immune to magnetism. He then hands her a lance the size of a pencil, and she is surprised by how heavy it is. He says the lance is made of gold and has divine runes on it. For now, her homework is to bend it into a circle. As he starts to walk away, she protests that she can't, but he says the point of all this is to surpass her limits and become better than she once was. She concentrates and tries to use Polarity on the lance, and grits her teeth in frustration when it doesn't work.

In a courtyard, Semiramis sits at a table with a stack of books. Weiss stands and uses Myrtenaster to create a Glyph. She smiles as a humanoid shape forms in the Glyph, but it cracks and explodes, knocking her down. Weiss complains that she knows the summoning process inside and out and can perfectly visualize what she wants to summon, and she's been reading all these textbooks on the subject, so why can't she get it right? Semiramis says to stop complaining, and she is using the proper energy output, so it is something else. She suggests Weiss take a break and summons a skeleton to serve them tea. Weiss says the tea is good, but gets nervous and asks her to take the skeleton away. Semiramis makes the skeleton disappear and asks Weiss if she is afraid of bones. Weiss reluctantly admits it. While the Grimm with their bone-like armor don't phase her, ordinary human skeletons frighten her, ever since she was a child. Semiramis suggests this may be the reason why she cannot summon. In general, a summoned being is just a construct of energy formed by willpower and imagination. But because of Weiss' fear of skeletons, she is subconsciously forming her summons without them, which makes them fall apart as they lack a proper framework. She giggles, and assures Weiss that she is not making fun of her, but this situation is kind of funny. Weiss sighs and says she should see the biology teacher then, but Semiramis says don't bother because the biology teacher is an idiot. She sends some files to Weiss' scroll and says they will resume training after she finishes reading them. Weiss thanks her and leaves.

Semiramis turns to a tree and tells the person to come out, she knows they are there. Shirou Kotomine/Amakusa walks up and admits he is kind of jealous of her spending time with Weiss. They talk about how they are dating, but Semiramis wants to keep it a secret because he is a student and she is a teacher. He says they have nothing to be ashamed of, since Medb hasn't been fired despite repeatedly sleeping with students. She says she doesn't want to be compared to Medb, and he is never taking her biology class. He laughs and says he is glad she is here to watch over him, and she blushes.
