A man named Ernest mistakes Dante for his childhood friend Anthony and invites him back to his hometown. Dante comments that he's used Tony Redgrave as an alias in the past, but he's never been to that town before and has never met Ernest or the other townspeople, but Ernest thinks he's just in denial and insists he comes. Dante's assistant Morrison explains that about twenty years ago, that town was burned to the ground, resulting in several deaths. The townspeople blamed Anthony and his mother and ran them out of town.
The town has since been rebuilt and many people had forgotten the incident, but Ernest was determined ever since to clear Anthony and his mother's names and figured out a demon was responsible. While in town, Dante runs into Sid, who reveals he was the one who planted the idea in Ernest's head that Dante was Anthony in order to lure him here. Dante attempts to interrogate him, but he escapes. Ernest plans to summon the demon in order to prove it was the one who attacked the town and not Anthony and his mother. Dante warns him what a colossally stupid idea that is, but he does it anyway. As soon as it appears, the massive, flame-spewing demon instantly paralyzes Ernest with magic and prepares to kill him, but Dante rescues him. The demon recognizes Dante as the Son of Sparda and remarks on how he always wanted to kill him, as he hated Sparda, but Dante kills him.
Unfortunately, when Ernest recovers in the hospital, not only does he still think that Dante is Anthony, but now he thinks that it was all Anthony's fault that the demon attacked in the past. When Dante visits him in the hospital, Ernest angrily declares his everlasting hatred of him and warns him to never show his face in this town again or else he'll kill him, somehow, someway. Dante sadly returns home.
