Recap / Borgia S1E11: "God's Monster"

Go To

Charles of France dies suddenly; the new king, Louis, dismisses della Rovere from his court. Della Rovere must return to Rome and face trial for treason. Lucrezia, in the convent, falls in love with a handsome young Spanish soldier, Pedro Caldes, whom Rodrigo has sent to tempt her from her religious vocation. Though the Spanish general, Gonzalo di Córdova, is defeating the remnants of the French army, Juan claims that he is responsible. Cesare’s fury at his brother deepens. Juan sleeps with Pantisilea, unbeknownst to Lucrezia. In Florence, the monk Savonarola becomes increasingly antagonistic toward Rodrigo’s papacy. The pope sends Cesare up to Florence to offer Savonarola a cardinalate. When that gambit fails, Cesare plots with the local merchants and the Franciscans to topple the Dominican monk from power. He watches as Savonarola, branded as a heretic, burns at the stake in a violent, yet religious act.
