Heartwarming / X of Swords

Go To

  • What seems like a growing Sibling Rivalry between Betsy and Brian over the mantle of Captain Britain is revealed to be a ruse to trick Saturnyne into giving up the Starlight Sword. Brian proudly accepts his new role as Captain Avalon, and helps his sister play Saturnyne like a sap and they go together to the casting circle.
    Brian: For Queen and Country.
    Betsy: Mine and yours?
    Brian: Mine and Yours.
  • By all appearances, Cypher and Bei the Blood Moon appear to be genuinely smitten with one another and, according to both Saturnyne and Tarot's card readings, destined for happiness together. It's a bright spot in what appears to be a rigged game against Krakoa.
    • There's also Bei's wedding vows.
Bei the Blood Moon: When the grim fog of bloodshed overtakes us, the beloved is the beacon that returns us to our better selves. Love is a fealty that cannot be broken. I will love you with the force of the wave that crashes the shore and fight for you like the current that swallows the sand.
Cypher: You guys can understand her, yeah?
Apocalypse: They are good vows, Douglas. You should accept them.
  • Cable only loses to Bei the Blood Moon because he hesitated when he had her on the ropes. Why? Because he didn’t want to kill Cypher's wife right in front of him. When she gets the upper hand, Cypher in turn pleads for her to show him mercy.
  • At the end of the contest, Saturnyne requires one mutant from each side to live with the other. Genesis chooses Apocalypse, while Apocalypse chooses Arakko, thereby reuniting two pairs of lovers.

  • Magik pushes Cypher very hard while training him for the tournament, knocking him over several times and berating him for not taking the situation seriously enough. When he starts to figure out how to use his powers to read her movements, he realizes that she's been going easy on him the whole time. She just doesn't want to lose him, because, as she says "we're family, we always have been."
  • When Cyclops defies the will of the Quiet Council to launch a mission to aid the champions in Otherworld, he makes an impassioned speech about how the X-Men are the heroes of mutantkind and cannot accept the sort of moral compromises the government has to. As he leaves to be a hero, Xavier smiles, and Magneto says "good boy," showing that they are proud of Scott for standing up to them and for what he believes in.
