Heartwarming / A Witch in Wartwood

Go To

  • The moment Marcy and Sprig officially become friends - mitigated only by the giant parrot trying to eat them.
  • When he realizes just how much Marcy had been overworking herself in chapter 10, Hop Pop puts a stop to her potion-making, putting her health over paying rent and keeping the family stand.
    • Topped soon after by Hop Pop adding Marcy's portrait to the family shrub, officially adopting her into the Plantar family.
      • From then on, the narration often has Marcy and the Planters refer to each other using familial terms (e.g. brother, sister, etc), with Hop Pop even calling Marcy his granddaughter in chapter 13, reinforcing this dynamic.
  • For most of chapters 1 through 11 - due to her introduction and her own difficulties making social connections - the townsfolk of Wartwood (with very few exceptions) treat Marcy with suspicion, seeing her as an outsider to avoid at best, with none of them coming to her defense when the tax collectors assault and arrest her. At the end of chapter 12, after her harrowing ordeal at Toad Tower, Marcy notices she gets more friendly greetings and genuine smiles when she next visits Wartwood. While it's not the folk-hero status Anne gets in canon, the townfolk showing her more kindness and acceptance is still a big and uplifting improvement.
  • Marcy and Anne's reunion at the Bizarre Bazaar.
    • Which would be later topped by the two of them confessing their feelings for each other in chapter 19.
  • Marcy comforting Anne in chapter 15, assuring her they're friends not because she steals things for her (and Sasha), but because of her kindness, bravery, and friendliness, and promises to talk with Sasha about how she (and Marcy herself) had been treating Anne.
  • While it would be soured by circumstances, all three girls reuniting in the finale still counts.
