  • If the President's plan all along was to blackmail von Bardas with the knowledge of her illegal arms dealing to supervillains in order to get her to stop, why didn't he let Fury know what the plan was? If Fury had known, he might not have have embarked on his illegal, unauthorized mission to depose von Bardas, the heroes he recruited wouldn't have had to have their memories erased, von Bardas wouldn't have gone insane and attacked New York City, she would have still been the leader of Latveria instead of Doctor Doom, and Fury would still be the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. to this day instead of an internationally wanted fugitive. Did the President simply think the blackmail plan was a need-to-know basis, and Fury (for whatever reason) didn't need to know? Did he honestly think Fury was the type of person who'd just drop the matter and follow orders without protest?
    • Considering that follow-up material has the President use Maria Hill's appointment as an excuse to start pushing the Registration Act, maybe he was already preparing for such an act and arranged to take Fury off the board because he knew Fury wouldn't go along with such an idea?
