Headscratchers / Bugsy Malone

• So, do characters really "die" when they get splurged or not? Throughout most of the film the reactions of the characters seem to indicate this, but when they all start singing at the end, it seems pretty ambiguous, as if they all just decide to give up on the pretense.
  • It's an Alan Parker film. Don't expect it to be logically consistent.
  • Word of God says that the entire Bugsy Malone "universe" is basically like one big game. Once you get splurged, you're out of the game. Of course there is the Darker and Edgier theory that the splurge guns are literally G-rated tommy guns (with the cream being G-rated blood and gore, I guess) and the only reason all the characters agree to get along at the end is because they realise they're all now literally dead (except for Bugsy and Blousey).
