Headscratchers / All of Us Are Dead

Go To

  • When the students were in the PA room, why didn't they just use the trash bin (which is visible in the room) as a toilet instead of wasting energy and time to build a "toilet"? It would be way more sanitary than using a small bin (full with mop-heads).
  • How come the military never realizes that the asymptomatic half zombies have unnaturally low body temperatures? This would make clearing people way easier.
    • After they get their hands on one of them, they already studied them and even developed an effective bombing strategy. We never see them interact with another one of them after that, so it's likely that they already have this knowledge but never got to use it. Besides, the sound weakness is a way more effective way to distinguish them from regular people.
    • Plus, it's not a reliable strategy either, as their temperature drop depends on their zombie characteristics manifesting. Nam-ra was cleared as just having hypothermia because while her temperature was low, it was still within what's possible on a regular human.
  • We know zombie media is a thing in this world, because several students mention Train to Busan in the first few episodes. So why on earth do none of the survivors go for the head? It would be one thing if someone tried and it was too difficult, but every time we see them stab someone, it's through the shoulder or chest or neck.
    • Piercing bone (specifically the skull) with the objects available to them is certainly more effort than you'd think, even with a knife. And they lacked really heavy blunt objects to crush skulls with. The only thing available that was consistently able to pierce skulls were arrows, and that was only in the hands of the two Archery team members. Broken broom handles also seemed to work but only through the back of the mouth. It's shown that slashing the neck is effective in disabling the zombies though.
    • Their stabbing weapons aren't exactly the sharpest or incredibly long, and if they go for the head it's a risk of getting bit if too short. The chest is also easier to target.
  • Why is it that, multiple times when someone is bitten, the survivors stand around and watch them turn and don't get them out of their hideout until they've gone full-blown zombie, inevitably leading to someone else getting bitten?
    • Presumably a feeling of shock?
    • Likely that and a combination that the infected is a friend, associate, or loved one. They might stick around out of concern and/or grief over the "loss" of someone close.
    • This makes more sense than people think. No-one wants to be the one to grab the body and lob them out of the room or window. If you time it wrong, and they spasm (making it hard to move them anyway) or turn then you are the first person they bite.
  • Are the zombies blind or not? Do they respond to sound or not? The student survivors use sound multiple times to misdirect the dead so they can move location, but at other times we see the zombies attacking someone moving quietly in broad daylight.
    • Loud sounds seem to cause great harm to the infected's ears. Maybe it's a way of self-preservation? The virus was created as a way for Lee Byeong-Chan's son to defend himself against bullies, after all.
      • Loud sounds only cause pain to the asymptomatic (half-bies). The fully infected just seem drawn to attack based on sound. But regardless, that doesn't answer the question as to why the (supposedly blind) zombies seem to attack someone they've "spotted" who is being absolutely silent.
      • It is stated that the zombies have poor eyesight, but are not totally blind. They rely more on sound and smell, but are still capable of seeing an exposed human. A couple of times we see through an infected person's eyes, and it appears the blood reduces their peripheral vision.
  • The students have just used the thunderstorm to navigate the campus without being detected by the zombies, and sure she's scared, but when Ji-Min is separated from the group, why on earth does she stand there sobbing loudly instead of shutting up and trying to get away? She makes so much noise it's almost as if she were asking to get attacked. A real Too Dumb to Live moment.
    • It's likely she just gave up by that point, or was hoping someone would hear her.
    • Panic.
  • Knowing that the half-zombies are ignored by the regular zombies, why did nobody think to utilize Nam-Ra's condition to their advantage? When they were stuck in the gymnasium for example, they could hunker down in the supply room while she just spends an hour or so clearing them out.
    • They don't know that half zombies can heal from injuries that would be fatal for a normal person, or that she won't be mauled by them. To test out that theory would basically mean she's doomed if they're wrong, so I can understand why it doesn't come up.
      • They have first-hand experience with Gwi-Nam coming back from the dead several times, and being ignored by the zombies as he casually walks through them.
      • Thus the possibility of Gwi-nam spotting them and causing trouble. While Nam-ra has superhuman strength like Gwi-nam, she is definitely not the better fighter of the two and she only finally lays the decisive win in their only fight at Episode 9 thanks to Su-hyeok, who would be VERY opposed to using her to clear the zombies out.
  • Why didn't Nam-ra say anything when she saw Na-yeong wiping her handkerchief with the zombie blood, or stop her from entering the mic room before she went in to see Gyeong-su? It would have prevented a lot of heartache (seeing as Nam-ra was also crying when he became infected) and at least kept another valuable member on the team.
    • Probably she understood Na-yeong's intentions a little bit too late, she made the connection as she was wiping the tainted handkerchief in Gyeong-su's wound. After all, why would you expect a survivor infecting another one intentionally for such a petty reason? That would even have put Na-yeon in danger.
  • In Episode 3, U-sin is clearly shown to have been bitten by an infected paramedic, yet it appears that he has zero signs of infection for the rest of his screentime. So is he truly infected (albeit asymptomatic) or was that detail forgotten?
    • There are no bite marks visible from his arms if you look closely. Also it is shows (though not so good) that he put his arm under the zombies chin.
  • Did anyone escape from the school during the initial outbreak? surely anyone with comon senses first instinct to do when zombies begin poping up at school would be to get the hell out of there.
  • When Nam-ra was bitten by Gwi-nam she turned into a "half-zombie" so why didn't the group also assume that could have been the case for Cheong-san too instead of him automatically assuming he was going to go full zombie right after he was bit? Two other characters he bit did go full zombie but the group didn't know that happened to Na-yeon and Min-jae they only have Nam-ra for reference.
    • Even if Cheong-san were a Hambie, that wouldn't change the fact they're getting bombed. Besides, he likely wouldn't want to put On-jo at risk and saw this as an opportunity to clear a path for the group to escape and take cover.
  • Why did on-jo put the phone in her zip-up hoodie pocket and not in her skirt pocket or even tell one of the boys to put in in their pockets? as we all know if you put something in a zip up hoodie pocket you're just asking to loose it.
  • How did no one but Gyeong-su ever get infected by blood? Multiple characters get open cuts and pretty everyone gets zombie blood on them.
    • It's possible they just got really lucky. But other than that, during fights everyone tries to make sure zombies don't even touch them. The blood they get on them mostly gets on their clothes which provide protection to getting cut. And for the blood spilled when killing zombies, it should be noted that only a small handful of them use sharp weapons.
  • If Ji-min doesn't like Sundae sausage, wouldn't that mean her thermos would be full and her group would have had something to eat?
    • Not if the thermos wasn't on her when everyone left the classroom after a infected teacher entered.
  • If Nam-ra's senses of smell and hearing were enhanced, why didn't she tell the group (when they were in the music room) that there was FOOD in the supply closet, or that Na-yeon was WITH them? The group would get food and drinks, plus regroup with Na-yeon.
    • She literally only found out about her enhanced smell and hearing and was felling overwhelmed from all the changes. Besides, nobody in the group wants to regroup with a sub-human who murdered their dear friend.
  • In episode 2 during the scene where the football field or the exterior of the school is shown, screams from the outbreak can still be heard despite there being no uninfected people left to scream, with all of them either having already turned into zombies or (presumably) having fled the school already.
  • In Episode 5, why didn’t Cheong-san join the bathroom group? Surely he would’ve heard them from inside the elevator shaft and realized that they had killed the zombie that was attacking him.
