Funny / Meet the Parents (1992)

• To assure Irv that he is fiscally responsible, Greg says he firmly believes in the concept of "A penny saved is a penny earned," unaware that Penny just happens to be the name of Irv's late mother, which sets off a nerve.
• After Greg spills wine on Kay's roast and knocks it to the floor, prompting the dog Bingo to eat it, Kay asks if anyone wants more salad.
• The video store employee, staying true to Emo Philips' childlike comedic persona, eagerly states this about every VCR his customers consider renting: "That's! My! FAVORITE!"
• Greg attempts to buy Zip-Loc bags for the family's Saturday picnic lunch but, as Pam points out, makes perhaps the most mundane mistake of the film: he gets baggies instead.
• A more morbid example, but Greg throws a stick into a lake at Pam's insistence, assuming Bingo, being a dog, can swim to retrieve it. As the stick has sunk below the water by now with no chance of resurfacing, Bingo suffers the same fate...
• The most darkly funny example of all has to be the gas station owner's conclusion to Greg's horrific weekend: despite all the damage left in his wake, Greg is miraculously the sole survivor. Fay hangs herself, while Irv shoots and kills Kay and Pam in an attempt to murder Greg before promptly dying of a heart attack.
