The second-in-command of Space Force, Brad Gregory, is a brigadier general, yet he functions exactly like you would expect a personal assistant: sitting outside of Naird's office, taking calls, making appointments, etc. So the assistant to the Chief of Space Operations is also the Assistant Chief of Space Operations. This is a play on a Running Gag in Steven Carell's previous show The Office (US), in which the Regional Manager has to keep reminding an underling that he's assistant to the Regional Manager and not Assistant Regional Manager.
Fridge Horror
The show doesn't dwell on it, but in the last episode of season 1, Erin was a few seconds away from presumably being gang-raped by the meth heads on motorcycles chasing after her in the middle of the desert.
In the last episode, when the American astronauts are loading their guns and discussing whether or not the Chinese taikonauts will be armed, one of them points out that the Chinese Moonbase is a scientific outpost and so probably won't be. Then someone points out that the American Moonbase is also a scientific outpost - if one side is willing to violate an international treaty it becomes much harder to expect the other not to.
