  • Owen's refusal to train Luke is the parental equivalent of Head-in-the-Sand Management. Setting aside that it's unlikely that a boy as adventurous as he already is, with the daring parents he has, is going to want to stay on a farm, under an oppressive and corrupt regime. There's the simple fact that the kid has super powers. They're really lucky Luke didn't figure out telekinesis on his own. Or unlucky because then maybe he would have let Ben run him through Shi-cho once or twice!
    • And then you remember that the Hutts have ruled this planet for centuries and moisture farmers like him survive by keeping their heads down and being beneath notice... He has zero reason to believe the Empire will fall anytime soon. And he knows even if it does, it will only affect a dust ball no one wants like Tattooine so much. Luke is safe here because no one who ever got out wants to come back & no one else has any reason to go there!
