In this episode, Stumpy is portrayed as a brilliant artist, whereas many episodes which come after this show him to be just as bad at art as he is at everything else. Why? At the end, Kaeloo taught Stumpy to follow a set of rules that she herself had been using when making art, which caused her art to turn out horrible. It's likely that Stumpy is following the rules Kaeloo taught him.
In the beginning, Kaeloo is terrible at art and Stumpy is actually good at it. Later, Kaeloo teaches Stumpy that her way is the only correct way, and he ends up making terrible art that looks just as bad as hers. What if Kaeloo was intentionally sabotaging Stumpy because she was jealous of him?
