When they returned they had their memories erased but then, their present day counterparts gained those memories essentially becoming an amalgam of of two of the same person. This really has only been explored with Cyclops who has a much more well adjusted personality due to his younger self having friends in the [[ComicBook/Champions2016 Champions]] and Jean who has inherited her younger selfs CharacterDevelopment and application of her abilities.
