Chapter 1, or: Prologue

Link

Summary: A short introduction, introducing Aang and Toph as children and describing their first friendship to Aang's departure, and their subsequent contact over the years.

Highlights: While the story is in its infancy here, there are already traces of the good writing that makes Gradual Changes such a blast to read.

Being blind. What a stupid thing to be so worried about. Toph never understood what her parents were always so scared of. She could take care of herself just fine.

With her feet pressed against the earth she could "see" everything clearer than most people who saw with their eyes. She could "see" people. She could "see" plants. She could "see" bugs. She could even "see" when people lied. Something that people around her seemed to do a lot of.

This chapter is a bit of a rough beginning. Lots of starting and stopping. But it gets the job done.

There really isn't much to cover in this chapter, so please excuse the barebones coverage. Next time, when the chapter's a bit longer, I'll actually write a detailed chapter synopsis and take it from there.
