Law Edition Chapter 8: Keep Tellin' Myself That Everything's Gonna Be Alright

Shiva: It is time for me to act. That power we felt back there, the one that was released upon the destruction of the demon Alilat, was one greater than that of Mem Aleph herself. It seems that whatever being that it, it is the one causing those temporal anomalies... or at least, one of them. The Ladies Norn said that these "incursions" are what occurs when two temporal anomalies occur in tandem. So if the power that was released down there was causing the loop... then what is the SECOND anomaly?

Drake: Ah, Lord Shiva! Good to have you aboard! I sense we may disagree on a lot of things this time, but for... whatever that is down there, I'll need all the help I can get.

Shiva: There is but one major criticism I have of your new ideals, Good Sir. You embarked on this path because you wished for a world of no destruction, of no death, yes?

Drake: And what's so bad about that? If you recall, two of my friends died by my own hand last time, deaths in the name of an uncertain future, at that. What's the downside you see?

Shiva: Well, in a world with no death... not even the possibility of death... how can you say what is truly alive?

Drake: ...!

It's time to once again take on the Bonus Boss, Demiurge. Why am I showing you this again? Well, there's a rather unique way this battle can go on the Law path only, that's why! If you recall, after dealing with Alilat, we have to change the Sanctum type to Sanctum B, then exit the one-way door maze area and do the teleport maze once again. A tip for the teleport maze: no matter what your Dungeon Crawler instincts tell you, try to refrain from exploring every nook and cranny, rather just concentrating on the correct path, and thus you'll have it marked for you whenever you come back.

Huoniao: But that corner looks so cool though! I wonder if I can BURN all this trash...

Drake: Come on, you!

What you want to find here is a Gate Search C door that's inaccessible except from Sanctum B. Its position is difficult to describe: from the stairs, it's two rooms to the right and four down, if that helps, but the path is not linear. When you find the door, head back to the Phase Shifter, change back to standard space, go through the teleport maze for the third time, and the door will still be open - from here, just search until you find the elevator.

Drake: How did you know that door was there, Ganesha?

Ganesha: Like I said, remover of obstacles!

You'll get the same spiel from the female voice imploring you not to release Demiurge, but regardless, you have to fight him.

Masakado: Lo, Young Knight!

Drake: Have I seen you before?

Masakado: I am not sure. But rest assured I of all the demons in the Schwartzwelt am the strongest. You seek to protect human life, therefore you are my ally. Though I would advise you to rethink your way of protecting it...

Drake: Glad to have you. And no offense, but you demons keep saying that. I'm not sure I Iike getting advice on how to preserve human life from the people who were trying to end it before joining up with me...

Masakado: Judgmental of you... Throughout your travails here you have been spoken of as a friend to demon and human alike... be careful how quickly you cast aside our opinions...

Anyway, Bonus Boss time!

=ULTIMATE BOSS: DEMIURGE=

Level 99. Weakness and resistance varies

Demiurge is exactly as he was in the Neutral path: changing weaknesses, high-power elemental spells, boss skills, the works. After playing IV, though, I must confess he's something of a disappointing boss; most of that game's optional bosses could eat him for breakfast if not for the weakness shifting. As before, the "official" strategy is to use the Gibo Eyes to find his weakness and strike it, but also as before, that strategy is bad and it should feel bad.

Drake: Wh-what is that thing!? That Metatron called it the "Lord"... is THIS thing Irina's boss?

I'm now going to teach you the super-secret trick to this fight. First, buff up to three with Luster Candy (gave that to Masakado). Next, you need at least two demons with Debilitate or, preferably, Jihad. That's Shiva and Masakado for me. Got that? Here's the trick: if you play your cards right you can effectively cheese him into wasting at least every third turn, and likely every other turn, casting Dekunda. Demiurge's AI is such that he's programmed to use Dekunda if he's ever de-buffed to four or below, and two Jihad users will reach that line in two turns. Whenever he's below this line he will always use Dekunda, and since this game doesn't have Press Turns that's one less round that could be spent killing you. The other move he'll likely use is Big Bang, which due to you being buffed to three and him being de-buffed to at least one, will probably not hurt very much.

Frost Ace: Did he-ho just drop an exploding universe on them-ho?

Kama: Eh, I've had worse.

You'll use up more Great Chakras this way, but you'll also be much less likely to snap your DS in half.

Drake: It stopped moving... what's that Metatron doing?

Asherah: YOU! DRAKE! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? STOP THE FUSION!

Drake: It's beautiful, in a way... having something like that in your debt would be handy against Mem Aleph...

Yes, if you've taken the Law path and choose not to seal the Demiurge, he will declare the main character a "saint" and invite himself into your party, meaning you don't have to fuse him!

Demiurge: FWASSSSSSH! THIS SPACE IS A BIT CRAMPED, BUT IT SHALL DO KNOWING I AM IN THINE COMPANY. THE MOTHERS WERE NEVER MEANT TO RULE THIS WORLD; WE SHALL PRY IT FROM THEIR COLD, DEAD HANDS!

Horkos: BUONO! WH-WHAT DID YOU JUST DO? HOW CAN YOU SAY YOU CAN TRUST THAT THING! N-NOT BUONO...

Drake: Relax; he'd in my DEMONICA, and the DEMONICA can...

CRASH

It wanted ya ta kill it...

CRASH CRASH CRASH

Drake: DEMONICA can... do... what can the DEMONICA do?

CRASH CRASH

The DEMONICA can do anything...

Drake: St-stop that knocking! STOP THAT! I'M RIGHT! NO ONE ELSE WILL DIE! IF I'M TAKING THE PATH WHERE NO ONE DIES, HOW CAN I NOT BE RIGHT!?

Norn: This shouldn't have come to pass... that demon was suppose to be redeemed... wasn't it? Feel like we've been here before... it wasn't... he shouldn't bend his knee to it... seems backwards...

Thoth: Miladies Norn... spell's ready...

CRASH CRASH CRASH CRASH CRASH CRASH CRASH CRASH CRASH CRASH

To be continued...

Drake, Drake, Drake...in the world of Shin Megami Tensei, all paths are stained with blood. It's that type of world. How many demons have you killed to get to where you were? Can you honestly say that the demons don't count, even when you have depended on so many during your journey?
