The Return (Endgame, Part IV)

I apologize for any typos. My keyboard's been misbehaving lately.

Luckily, Fail Shep has Plot Armor.

Fail Shep survives a direct hit from the same laser that wiped out Hammer and killed Liara and James. The blast does severely wound him, which means his armor is ruined and he moves at a snail's pace for the rest of the game. On the bright side, he suddenly has a pistol with infinite ammo.

Fail Shep limps his way over to the beam. Ordinarily, he would be confronted by three husks, but they aren't present (probably since I'm playing on Narrative, although it could be my low EMS). Just before Fail Shep can enter the beam, he gets shot.

By Marauder Shields, who has come to save the galaxy from the ending.

(I actually find the MS meme stupid, though the comic is pretty good. Plus, Fail Shep dying here probably would be for the best).

Fail Shep dispatches Marauder Shields and enters the beam. Hackett receives word of this and has Shield Fleet and the Crucible enter the Sol System in preparation for the opening of the Citadel's arms.

Fail Shep awakens in a strange human corpse-filled passage on the Citadel. Anderson also managed to make it to the Citadel and contacts Shepard. The two of them discuss the passages and the corpses and figure that the Citadel is going to be used to create a new human-Reaper.

Fail Shep and Anderson meet up at the Citadel's main control panel, only to find that they can no longer move. TIM appears and gloats about how he can use his Reaper implants to control people. He reveals that he can use the Crucible to control the Reapers and tries to convince Fail Shep that Control is the way to go.

Fail Shep points out the flaws in TIM's logic: If TIM needs to use the Crucible, then why has he been working so hard to prevent it from being built and why is he trying to stop Fail Shep from allowing the Crucible to dock? The only explanation is that TIM is indoctrinated.

TIM doesn't take this well and kills Anderson before being put down by Fail Shep. Fail Shep opens the Citadel's arms and the Crucible miraculously manages to make it through the carnage intact and docks with the Citadel. Fail Shep sits down. Ordinarily, there would be a touching scene where Fail Shep and the mortally wounded Anderson have a final chat. But since Anderson is already dead, Fail Shep just sits awkwardly for a minute or so.

Hackett breaks the silence to inform Fail Shep that the Crucible isn't working and the problem is on Shepard's end. Fail Shep looks around confusedly before passing out. The platform he's lying on ascends and we enter the most hated part of the ending.

Ah, Failure Shepard, I weep for the galaxy.

The sad thing is, I don't know what's worse at this point, using the Destroy option, or the Refuse option. The Destroy option sees everyone face a horribly uncertain future while the Refuse option, while seeing everyone dead, does end on a hopeful note.
