The night before the assault on Cerberus Headquarters, Liara comes to Fail Shep's room to spend the night with him. Fail Shep turns her down though: he wants something to look forward after defeating the Reapers once and for all.
Fail Shep has a third nightmare about The Boy. This time, he hears the voices of Zaeed, Eve, Wrex and Padok. When he wakes up, he is only wearing his boxers, which is strange considering all the previous times Fail Shep has woken up he has been fully clothed. I guess Bioware really wanted to show off their underwear designs.
Cerberus HQ (Cronos Station) is heavily defended, but STEEEEVE!!!!1 manages to get past the Cerberus ships. EDI forces her way into the party, which proves to be fortunate when her knowledge of Cerberus security protocols allows her to cancel an order to vent the hanger the squad is sealed in.
The squad manages to escape the hanger by ramming a Cerberus fighter into a bulkhead. The squad fights through several Cerberus labs and finds several video and audio logs. In approximate order:
- The destruction of the Normandy SR-1 didn't render Fail Shep comatose, it actually 100% killed him.
- EDI was made from an insane AI that Fail Shep was asked to destroy back in ME1, although he never actually got around to doing that sidequest.
- Cerberus captured Jack during their raid on Grissom Academy and performed brutal experiments on her again.
- Kai Lame is still a tool.
- TIM was Genre Blind enough to think that implanting Reaper tech in himself was a smart move.
Eventually, the squad makes it to the Central Labs, where they find two things: the remains of the Human-Reaper Fail Shep destroyed during the Suicide Mission and Jack.
Jack has been transformed into a Phantom and has to be put out of her misery. Aside from a brief exchange between EDI and Fail Shep, no one seems to care about this. Fail Shep's ex-girlfriend doesn't even get a plaque on the memorial wall.
The squad reaches TIM's office, but it's owner is absent. TIM contacts Fail Shep to gloat about how he has everything he needs for his master plan.
Fail Shep recovers Vendetta, who reveals that the Citadel is the Catalyst. Unfortunately, TIM has gone to the Citadel to help the Reapers capture it. The Citadel now in the orbit of Earth, the heart of Reaper-occupied space.
Suddenly, Kai Lame attacks. The tool gets fifty million kinds of shit beaten out of him. After being defeated, Lame manages to get up and almost stabs Fail Shep from behind, but our hero dodges at the last minute, pulls out his Omni-Blade and...
Before Fail Shep leaves, Vendetta informs him that this cycle is screwed. Fail Shep has no response to this.
