Fail Shep, Jack and Samara head to Omega in hopes that alcohol will help them get over the loss of their friends. At the docks, Fail Shep notices a scarred man beating the shit out of a batarian. He realizes that this scarred man has been doing so every time he's been to Omega. According to ME3, ME2 takes place over six months. If you ignore Gameplay and Story Separation, this is pretty disturbing.
The scarred man is Zaeed Massani, a badass bounty hunter that TIM hired to help me take down the Collectors. He joins up, mostly because Bioware didn't make a separate dialog path if you attempt to recruit him after beating the game. Zaeed has one thing to take care of before he can commit to the Suicide Mission: he's been hired to retake a refinery that was captured by the leader of the Blue Suns, Vido Santiago.
At the refinery, Zaeed reveals that he took the job for personal reasons: he and Vido co-founded the Blue Suns. When Vido started to work with batarian terrorists, Zaeed protested and Vido shot him in the head. Zaeed survived through pure rage. Now he wants revenge.
When Zaeed and Vido come face to face, Zaeed proceeds to start a fire that will destroy the factory to ensure that Vido cannot escape. However, this explosion will also kill the hostages the Blue Suns have taken. Although Fail Shep doesn't want to screw with the scary bounty hunter, one of the refugees has an oddly familiar voicenote and he is compelled to help.
After activating the fire extinguishers and engaging in a massive firefight (which was a huge pain in the ass because Fail Shep was level 25 but hasn't bought many upgrades), Zaeed and Fail Shep reach Vido just as he escapes. Zaeed shoots the air like a madman and his gun's heat sink falls on a puddle of fuel. When Zaeed attempts to kill Fail Shep for ruining his revenge, the puddle explodes and some debris crushes Zaeed's leg. Zaeed asks Fail Shep to help him, but Fail Shep doesn't want an(other) unstable psychopath on his team and leaves him to die in the fire he started.
Next time, I begin Mass Effect 3.
