Fail Shep and co. head to the planet Therum, to find Liara T'soni, who can provide them with vital information on Matriach Benezia. The same Benezia who Fail Shep killed two missions ago. But there are no other leads, so Fail Shep heads to pick up Liara anyway.
Fail Shep finds Liara has been imprisoned in a Prothean device after a botched attempt to evade geth capture. What's more, she's gone crazy from being alone for so long and is convinced that the squad are mere hallucinations. Guess Fail Shep should have gone after her earlier.
Fail Shep rescues Liara, who is quite upset that she has spent 50 years studying why to Protheans disappeared only for Fail Shep to learn the truth in only a few months. There's a good Renegade line during the debriefing:
Oddly enough, there is no way to tell Liara that you killed her mother during this scene.
Liara and Fail Shep mind meld so Liara can see the visions from the beacons. Liara learns that Saren is heading to Ilos.
