Go To

Edge: (The moon is getting bigger and bigger. Could that be the same moon? The one that was home to Golbez and Fusoya? Are the Lunarians back for us? I wish I could get rid of this unease in my heart. But everything's happening just as it was before... Just like when Rubicante stormed the castle...)

Welcome back. After that moment of deep thought, Edge gets out of bed.

Edge: !

He opens a secret passage in his bedroom and jumps through. Meanwhile, in the throne room...

Seneschal: Your Young Highness? Your Young Highness! Where is Master Edge!?

Soldier: He should be asleep in his chambers. What's wrong?

Seneschal: The Tower of Babil, that's what!

We return to Edge, standing atop the tower in the middle of the castle.

Edge: I knew it! It's back!

Obligatory shot of Babil glowing. Edge then heads out. There's only one place we can go from here - the Cave of Eblan, on the way to the upper section of the Tower of Babil.

Edge is already much stronger than the other characters of this Tale in both level and equipment. Considering he's one of the better characters of the game, that's not too surprising. In the first area alone, we find Mythril Gloves and a Silver Breastplate, making his equipment even better. He also learns Heal Pill soon afterwards.

We head down to B2, where the people of Eblan fled to after Rubicante attacked in FFIV. Understandably, the area's abandoned now, although there's still a Rune Armlet and some Gil hanging around. There's also a tombstone near the path to the next area.

Edge: (Father... Mother... You were buried out of sight... just as you requested, Father. A ninja to the end... Don't you ever get lonely, all the way down here? And now that tower has been set into motion once again... I know what this all means already. I swear I won't let anyone go through that again! So I'll be going now...)

We proceed to the Path to Tower of Babil. Here, we start finding the second tier of Shuriken, the Manji Shuriken. Further along the path, we find a Silver Apple, and even further along, a Save Point with a Soma Drop nearby. Towards the end of the path is a Kogarasu, an improvement over the two Kodachi that Edge starts with.

We reach the end of the path.

Edge: (I'm back. Back to where I first tasted defeat.)

Then a vision of Rubicante appears in front of us.

Edge: Rubicante!

The image disappears as quickly as it showed up.

Edge: What? What's going on here!?

Well... Anyway, time to head into the Tower of Babil.

Edge: (I never imagined I'd be going through here again.)

He ninjas his way through the wall. Again. You'd think it'd be easier to just blow a hole there after so many goes through this place. We move on, and get attacked by two Belphegors.

???: You'd better not leave me behind!

Tsukinowa shows up and casts a crappy weak spell on one of them.

Edge: Tsukinowa!

Might as well use this chance to grab a new band. Combining both Tsukinowa's and Edge's Attack, gets Wild Moon, which hits everything for decent damage. We win the battle somewhat easily. Tornado spam didn't help.

Edge: Tsukinowa! You're still in one piece.

Tsukinowa: Mysidia's magic has nothing on our ninjitsu.

Not if your spells are anything to go by.

Edge: Of course not!

Tsukinowa: Let's go, Master!

Tsukinowa gets that Rune Armlet we found, and we continue on. We find a Great Bow. Then we get into a battle with two Flamehounds. Gee, I wonder who joins now?

???: Master, you overexert yourself.

In comes Izayoi, casting a crappy spell that hits everyone for twice the damage Tsukinowa hit with when he joined. You suck, Tsukinowa.

Edge: Izayoi!

There's another Band to grab here. Edge's Attack plus Izayoi's Ninjitsu result in Frozen Moon Dance, which does pretty good damage to one target. We beat the enemies.

Edge: Izayoi! You've returned to Eblan!

Izayoi: Hopefully you won't treat me like a woman any longer, Master.

Edge: Are you serious?

Izayoi: I place my status as an Eblan ninja above my gender.

Edge: You've gone crazy, woman.

Izayoi: Not woman. Ninja.

This exchange is making me cringe. Let's just grab the Battle Axe next to where we are and move on.

Onto B2! And we start with more scripted battles!

???: Master! Keep yourself focused!

In comes Zangetsu, who manages to cast a spell weaker than Tsukinowa's. You really suck, Zangetsu.

Edge: Zangetsu!

We should grab some more bands. Both Tsukinowa and Zangetsu using Ninjitsu results in Gale Rush. Haste on everyone, very nice. Edge's Ninjitsu and Zangetsu's Human Kite combine to form Gale Twin Break, which attacks all enemies.

Edge: Zangetsu! You're safe!

Zangetsu: I may be old, my lord, but I am well experienced.

Edge: I see that.

It's about this point that Edge should realise that despite the fact that he sent the Eblan Four on recon missions, three of them haven't found out anything. Of course, this game being this game, he doesn't.

We find a Partisan, which is going straight on Zangetsu. Then another scripted battle commences!

???: I apologize for my tardiness, sir!

Do I really have to say who it is? Gekkou arrives, and unlike the other members of the Eblan Four, does decent damage to an enemy! What a concept!

Edge: Gekkou!

Another couple of bands to learn. Edge's Ninjitsu and Gekkou's Shuriken results in Blazing Moon Ring, which does big damage to an enemy, and Gekkou's Ninjitsu and Izayoi's Illusions gets us Phantom Lightflies, which heals the party and cures some status ailments.

There are two more bands this party can learn, but they're big ones, so we'll save them for later. We win the battle.

Edge: Gekkou!

Gekkou: We're dealing with an unknown enemy, Master!

See, in one line, Gekkou has proven himself more competent than the other three combined. The Eblan Four sucks.

Edge: Unknown?

Gekkou: I think they arrived here on a meteor from the heavens.

Edge: They what!?

We continue down to B3. Nothing but an Ether. Down to B4 then. First chest here is another Kogarasu, which I give to Tsukinowa. We go back up to the other part of B3. Here we find a Save Point.

I think we should end the update here. That took a lot of effort to get through, as the majority of our party is crap. Next time, we continue through the Tower of Babil.

I think there will be a lot of level grinding before I do as much as look at the Challenge Dungeon of this Tale.

What, "The whole world appears to be preparing for war" doesn't count as learning something?

Considering the fact that she forgets to tell Edge, no!
