Abusing the System for Profit on Day 1

When we last left off, we had just finished our tour of the island, and were about to undertake a job off of the notice board in the Inn. Lily wants us to buy 1 medical herb and will reward us with 500G for doing this. She even gives us 10G so we can purchase it. Now I know this is our very first quest, but considering the shop is literally across the street this does seem like of an easy deal.

Now I have heard a rumor that if you cancel the quest after she gives you the 10G that you can take the quest again right away and get another 10G. If you want you could in theory keep doing that over and over again until you were rich beyond your wildest dreams. Of course you would only be able to do it an infinite number of times if she was in the inn, so you can keep taking and canceling the quest without actually passing any time. This though seems like a waste of real life time as you would only get 10G with each cancellation.

So instead of doing that nonsense, I just head right over and buy the medical herb for 10G. After I finish my transaction, I'm given a lottery ticket. A quick look at it tells me it's just going to be cluttering my inventory up until the 27th when the drawing is actually held. Hopefully I don't forget about it by then.

A quick hop back over to the Inn and I'm 500G richer. As I don't have any particular goal, I head over to the kitchen and take a look at the cooking equipment where I'm given a few recipes by Odette. Being that I don't know how to cook anything yet I check out all the things I could in theory make, and look for the item that requires the least skill to make.

I see a couple of skill level 1 items like a Rice Ball or the Pickled Turnip, and a couple of level two items like Salted Salmon and Hot Milk. I can also purchase some food items from the sisters when they are on duty, and I see that Lily has both milk and hot milk for sale. It looks like I can purchase milk, heat it up and sell it back for a profit, so I'll go ahead and give that a try. Supposedly there is a way to haggle on the price, but for the life of me I can't figure out how. So I spend nearly all my money purchasing 4 milks, and head back into the kitchen.

A moment later I've made 4 hot milks, with one of them even having a star rating. While I can sell the basic hot milk for 210G per bottle, that one with the star will sell for 315G. Nice bit of profit considering each milk only cost me 120G. In the selling part, I even figure out how to haggle, and sell the star hot milk for 346G and the rest for 231G per bottle. Considering I went into this with 550G, and am now coming out with 1109G, I feel this was a good investment of my time.

Now I have a bit of a problem, being that I already used the bath house today, so don't get a free recharge of my stamina. I could purchase an Ice Cream for 410G that would recover 140 energy, but I'm not sure exactly what my total is, or how much a single hot milk costs me in energy to make. A quick look at my status screen tells me that I'm down to 38 energy of a total 100, after having heated 4 milks. So it seems cooking takes about 15 energy from me each time, so I should be able to heat two more milks. However, I do not think I'll by the ice cream to restore my energy as that would eat up nearly all my profit I've made so far. It's not meal time right now at the inn, so perhaps later there will be a better dish for restoring my energy.

Not having any other plans for my energy today, I go ahead and heat two more milks (with one of them getting a star), and sell them bringing me up to 1541G (got the star hot milk up to 441G this time).

Having had enough fun at the Inn for now, I take a quick look at the board and see that one of the kids at the church is looking for some help. While I don't really want to go to the church, I figure it's better than standing around doing nothing. I might even make some more money with this task. Unfortunately the kid wants grass so he can make color for his picture, and I don't seem to be able to just pull up a clump of sod and hand it to the kid. Nor does the shop waste time selling non medicinal weeds.

So instead for the rest of the day, I go around talking to random people and when I see on my map that a shift change has happened at the inn I head back there to find a new selection of foods to purchase. I can still purchase milk for 120G, but now I also have the ability to purchase Fried Squid for 130G or Pickled Turnips for 170G. The Fried Squid I see restores 70 energy while the Pickled Turnips restore 75.

A quick bit of math tells me that for every fried squid I eat, I'll be able to create four more hot milks. I'll actually increase gradually in energy as I do this allowing me on occasion to make a fifth hot milk. I know it may seem cheep, but this seems like a steady source of income and I don't like being broke so I'll take a bit of time doing this.
