Chapter 19x:
We made our way deeper into the woods, following Uhai's directions. Hector and Lyn soon found themselves bickering...again.
Before we were able to get them to shush, Ninian warned us that more enemies were approaching. Hector mentioned
that he was still uncomfortable about fighting this many mages, but was still ready for another scrap. That's our Hector!
I directed the units to carefully dispatch of the mages that were to the south. Ninian mentioned that we should be very weary of the leader, because even with all of the distance between us, he was still somehow a threat. Knowing the way magic could be, I made sure to take that advice to heart.
I noticed Guy (who I had given the task of being a shield) was chatting
with Matthew about something interesting, and couldn't resist listening in. Apparently Matthew got Guy to join us because Guy owed him a favor for getting food. Guy then went off and challenged Matthew to a duel so he wouldn't owe Matthew any more favors. It was...kind of a weird thing to be chatting about in the middle of a fight honestly, but I guess it's nice to see Matthew keeping up with his "friends" after what happened when we first got here.
Hector went to examine the ruins that were south of our location and reported that he ran into a strange older man
. He claimed that he was on a pilgrimage. He was kind enough to give us a Goddess Icon, which may help make the troops be a little stronger.
Some Pegasus Knights tried to attack Merlinus, but fortunately, he had the good sense to set up his tent in the woods, making it harder for them to hit him. The Pegasus Knights also seemed to be equipped with Axereavers, which were way too heavy for them. This made it easy for Fiora
and Lucius
to take them out before they did too much trouble.
Soon things got really weird. Ninian told us that not only did she no longer feel danger from the leader, but that many of the other units seemed to not be dangerous as well. As we got closer, Serra
found that she was no longer able to use her magic staff. It seemed that something in the area was blocking the ability to use magic, and that was hurting the leader, who was a powerful Sage. It's a little annoying, but whatever this thing is has proven to be a lifesaver.
With the magic out of commission, most of the forces left on their side were useless. We were able to rip through them and make our way to the leader. Despite the fact that he was no longer able to fight, the commander, Aion
, was still very difficult to remove from where he stood. Eventually, Hector and Kent
managed to defeat him together, and the rest of the units were routed.
Reports said that 5 men, including a man with a hood over their head, were seen running from that part of the island. We never found out if they had anything to do with the disruption in the fight, but if they did, we should probably be grateful.
