19: The Not-Quite-Dead Green Monster and the Floating Gardener

Anette comes by right on time, as expected. She must eat a lot of high energy meals. She mentions a rumor about a monster in the Green Ruins that lays really big eggs, and says that they might taste good boiled. Wait a minute, Raguna thinks to himself. Didn't I just beat a big monster down there not too long ago? He tries to take his mind off it by gathering up all of the strawberries, cucumbers and turnips that he's grown this season. Soon, he's going to have to cut most of them down to ring in the changing seasons.

He goes to check on his monsters, and they all still appear to be in good health and high spirits. Little Spring seems to pump out a random bag of seeds every few days when exposed to the Harvester. Today, Raguna obtains a bag of turnip seeds, which will have to be planted underground due to, uh..."time constraints". He also opts to put Puyo on rock clean-up duty, but does't expect a whole lot from it since it's Puyo's first time. He spends some time chopping some lumber, in preparation for the big addition he plans to make to his forge in the coming days.

He bumps into Cinnamon and Candy at the bathhouse later that night, where Cinnamon tells him a bit more about the Turnip and Serpent constellations he saw. Apparently, the turnip one came about after some guy ate a few turnips before going off to kill a giant catfish. (If I've learned anything from my video game history, giant catfish can be highly dangerous...think of all the earthquakes!) Another constellation, the Crown, is said to be visible at midnight. Raguna goes to Lake Poli to kill some time fishing. When it gets close to 11:30, he hurries over to the observatory where he waits for it to show up...but he can't see it clearly, because there are clouds in the way. Disappointed, he uses his Return spell to get back to his house so that he can get enough sleep to wake up on time the next day.

The clouds have given way to more rain. There are still a lot of tree stumps and rocks on the field, so Raguna goes off to Whale Island in search of some new monsters to assist him with cleanup. He tries taming a goblin, a poison-spitting soldier ant of unusual size, and an orc archer, only to learn  *

that they didn't have the right skills to suit his needs.

His journey to the island leads him to a totally different discovery: a lone tower on the fin that is locked by day, but at night, a girl (with Mismatched Eyes) comes out briefly to water some plants, and then locks the door behind her without saying a word. He wonders what she could be doing there, and why she would hole herself up on an island full of monsters. Monster extermination time? Perhaps, but that will have to wait for another day, for there is more farming to be done tomorrow.
