Prologue: Welcomes and information

Hello, all who are currently reading this! This is the opening page of what will be the storage place for all my liveblogs of the Fire Emblem series of games. In here, I will be updating chapter by chapter as I play through the games and hopefully make those updates as fun to read as possible!

The next page will be a Table of Contents, since this will eventually get fairly large, and it will make categorizing which games are being covered in which liveblog installments much easier.

Continue forth onto the next page, and hopefully enjoy your time reading!

I think an ordinary run of The Sacred Stones could be a nice breather after the massive FE4, but at the same time, I want to see how a bow-only run of Shadow Dragon would work. Gah, I dunno.

I'd probably fine with whatever the rest decide to pick.

I haven't commented in a while, but I've been reading along and quite enjoyed it.

Whichever you think you'd have the most fun with! Learning about Shadow Dragon could be interesting, but I also have incomplete playthroughs of the GBA titles that a blog might spur me to continue...

How many bow units are there in Shadow Dragon anyway? And is that the one where characters need to die for the gaiden chapters?

It is, but I think the only of the gaiden characters who can use a bow by default is Ymir...who is agreed to be one of the worse. Well, you need to kill off one person extra in the prologue to get Norne, but the only other bow wielder in the prologue is Gordin, so I don't see much of a problem.

Oh, would reclassing be included in the all bow run? Because...that might take the fun out of it IMO. Just reclass all the good units to bow usage and bench the actual bow guys!

Reclassing would likely be included, though I plan to limit the reclassing a bit. The rules are basically only use bow users, use at least one unit from every class who begins with bows, (they don't need to stay as their base class, but someone must fill that spot later) and have at least one of each bow wielding class.

Voting will be going on until the end of Thursday, so there's plenty of time to vote. As for the current ones, I'll be counting both towards Shadow Dragon, since they were mentioned as possible decisions, and SD is higher on the list, and thus gains priority. Votes can be changed if anyone changes their mind, of course.

I vote for The Blazing Sword. I wouldn't want to see something so limited as a one-weapon run and Blazing Sword has much more to cover than those other two. Besides, it means we're going back to the beginning of the translated ones.

On the subject of limitations, what's the strangest and/or most difficult Self Imposed Challenge you've heard of or done in a Fire Emblem game?

A Hard Mode Ike Solo (or somehow doing Maniac mode, though that can only happen in a Japanese Po R) sounds like it'd be pretty tough. I've only done one on Normal mode.

I also once did a run of RD using only Ike, Elincia, Sothe, and Micaiah (outside of some meatshielding during the prologue chapters, and using people on chapters where those four aren't available), although that was on easy mode.

Another really cruel one is the Hard Mode Casualty Run, where in any game, you play through on Hard Mode, but at random (decided by a person chosen to use an RNG as a third party) any given member of your party save your lord(s), a designated healer, and I think one backup unit, is killed off every chapter.

Ouch. Even with my ridiculous FE 6 casualty rates, that sounds tougher. At least if I really needed someone to wield a Legendary weapon/Warp staff/recruit people later I could keep them mostly out of harm's way in-game until then.

Interesting fact: the only characters to survive in both my Normal and Hard FE 6 runs were Roy, Zealot, Lilina, Miledy, Sophia, Percival, Hugh, and Niime. Somebody who was awesome the first time around tended to die like a chump to RNG spite the second, and vice versa.

Alright, now that it is Saturday morning, voting is closed, and I will soon be starting the next liveblog run, which with two votes, is Shadow Dragon! Hope you all enjoy.
