Tropes Are Tools.

Unfortunately, when used incorrectly, they can affect the public's opinions on a character in an unintended way. While The Scrappy is a trope that can apply to any character that's hated by the fanbase, it can also affect characters whom started off as anywhere from being well-liked to the Ensemble Dark Horse. One character at the beginning of a series could be fairly well liked, and by a certain point, the fandom hates their guts. Cast To The Scrappy Heap describes such a point in which a once liked character becomes seen by the fandom as The Scrappy, whether it be due to a Moral Event Horizon, or other factors, like if they become a God-Mode Sue or Designated Hero.

This is often due to Flanderization, but it can also be affected by other factors as well. Other such examples could be Seasonal Rot, Wolverine Publicity, or Badass Decay. Do take note that if the character is made to turn into someone the audience hates, the character is a Hate Sink. Opposite of Rescued from the Scrappy Heap, which describes a character becoming more liked then when they were a Scrappy character.

No Examples Please, at least not yet. It will devolve into an argument between points in which point a character would be demoted.

Other name proposed: Scrappy Event Horizon

The Scrappy doesn't specify that they have to start as one. So this is covered.

^I have seen a lot of instances where people have put "Inverted Rescued From The Scrappy Heap" so maybe it's not a bad idea to have this one.

The title would be better English if it were Thrown Onto The Scrappy Heap.

The description says "slowly", "thrown" implies quickly. There is a bit of a contradiction here.

We had a trope similar to this one years ago, but shortly after it got launched, it was taken down, so I'm fearful to adding examples at this point.

There is no way this won't just end up as a huge mess of complaining that needs TRS'd to fix it. I vote just to discard it, I don't see it as a good idea and I think the salient parts of it are already covered by Flanderisation anyway.

@4tell0life4, yes that's what I meant. I'm so dumb today *facepalm*

^ Ooh. Both of those names are rather good, though I'm leaning more towards Demoted To Scrappy in this case.

^^^^ I'm thinking that the main page shouldn't include examples at this point, seeing as it'd be best until this Trope is used in YMMV pages first before it gets its own examples, to avoid squabbling between people. Thus, the editing begins!

Until someone can provide a good reason to as the examples should be listed on the main page, I plan on keeping it with NoExamplesPlease. I don't mind if someone has a good reason for it and chooses to write in the examples, but if you do, please inform me.

Demoted to Scrappy sounds a bit too much as in Demoted To Extra, so I kinda prefer Cast To The Scrappy Heap.

I agree with the no examples please.

Scrappy stuff were made back when we think such things were okay tropes (even if they were YMMV). Nowadays we won't even call them tropes.

I'm not sure if this should be listed as YMMV (Examples can be still suggested, but will be moved to their respective YMMV work pages), or Flame Bait (No examples on this page and in work pages).
