Crown Description:

Proposed changes to the Character Specific Pages policy and eligibility rules.

  • Items will only be added to the Crowner after they've been proposed and discussed on the thread for a day or more — and only after any queries about ambiguous wording or other issues have been resolved.
  • Each item added to the Crowner should include a link to the post that started discussion on the thread.
  • Each item added to the Crowner should include the date added.

  • If there is clearly little or no support for a particular proposal on the thread, there may be a decision not to add that item to to the Crowner.

  • Unless otherwise stated, all text quoted for the current policy is taken from Administrivia.Character Specific Pages.

Vote UP to agree with a proposed change; vote DOWN to disagree.

If an item has a (CLOSED) on it, there is no need to vote on it; the result has already been decided, meeting the following requirements:
  • They have ten or more total votes,
  • They have been on the crowner for at least a week, measured from when the addition of the new crowner entry is announced both in the thread and via ATT post.
  • They are stable with at least a 2:1 vote ratio (If the vote is exactly 2:1 or +/- 1 vote from that, we will normally give it a couple of extra days to see if more votes come in).
   41 (Yeas:43 Nays:2) 21.50 : 1
The current (strong) recommendation that any character folder moved to its own new Character-Specific Page should be at least 6,000 words/40,000 characters will be replaced by a requirement that it is at least 40,000 characters. For simplicity, we\'re no longer using word count as an alternative. As discussed here — and part of original proposal in pinned post here. Added to Crowner Feb 24, 2024 (CLOSED)
   38 (Yeas:40 Nays:2) 20.00 : 1
The current recommendation that a character folder should be \"cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero Context Examples, removing outdated/misused tropes, and making sure all tropes listed fall under Characters and its related indexes (exceptions can be discussed)\" will be replaced by a requirement that this must be completed for all new Character Specific Page proposals. Cleanup will be coordinated via forum thread. As discussed here — and part of original proposal in pinned post here. Added to Crowner Feb 24, 2024 (CLOSED)
   33 (Yeas:37 Nays:4) 9.25 : 1
The current note that the original Characters page \"should still have enough writing to stand on its own\" will be replaced by a requirement that it is still at least 40,000 characters after the Character-Specific Page is launched. As discussed here — and part of original proposal in pinned post here. Added to Crowner Feb 24, 2024 (CLOSED)
   32 (Yeas:36 Nays:4) 9.00 : 1
If some or all of the new guidelines are approved, all current Character-Specific Pages will be reviewed — and any that don\'t meet all of the new guidelines will be merged back into multi-character pages. NOTE: If this item doesn\'t gain consensus then, unless an alternative proposal is approved, we default to a \'grandfather clause\' approach which leaves pre-existing pages in place until we need to move, split or significantly change them for other reasons, even if they may not meet the new guidelines. As discussed here and here. Added to Crowner Feb 24, 2024 (CLOSED)
   21 (Yeas:32 Nays:11) 2.91 : 1
The current (strong) recommendation that other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups, will be replaced by a \'requirement that a new Character-Specific Page can only be created if this option isn\'t workable. As discussed here — and part of original proposal in pinned post here. Added to Crowner Feb 24, 2024 (CLOSED)
   21 (Yeas:31 Nays:10) 3.10 : 1
The current note that a Character-Specific Page may be appropriate if a Characters page bypasses technical limitations and requires a split up will be replaced by a requirement that we will only consider a new Character-Specific Page if the original page is close to 250,000 characters in length. As discussed here — and part of original proposal in pinned post here. Added to Crowner Feb 24, 2024 (CLOSED)
