1	* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Shockwave believes that he was never the benevolent senator he was before the Shadowplay and that he was always a manipulator. Whether that's true and he was EvilAllAlong or just a consequence of the Shadowplay coloring his beliefs is up to the reader. Shockwave himself admits to having trouble understanding the "true" him with all of the identities he's taken over the millennia.
2	* BaseBreakingCharacter: Slide & Pyra Magna for their attitudes against Optimus. While many could see where the two were coming from, others just found their overall presence to be unpleasant.
3	* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The reveal that the Maximals are "spawn of Liege Maximo", and are actually spiked, monstrous robots inside Pretender-like beast-former shells. This never comes up again, and by the start of their next appearance the Maximals are once again in their Beast Wars forms.
4	* BrokenBase:
5	** Like a lot of IDW's stories, this series is very divided on how fans feel about it. Some think that it's an appropriate ending to the IDW timeline, others feel that the writing wasn't handled very well.
6	** Unicron's backstory resembling more of his G1 cartoon counterpart as a science experiment rather than the more well-known interpretation of him as a dark god from before the beginning of time. As with the argument since the first retcon involving Primus, fans are divided on whether or not this was a good plot device.
7	** Unicron being defeated with Optimus hugging the monster planet's creator's spirit. Some felt it was a good ending and a neat subversion to the constant angst, others felt that it was anticlimactic and worthy of mockery.
8	* CatharsisFactor: After 13 years of dodging and escaping death, and inflicting it everywhere they go, Bludgeon and Monstructor are finally put down at the end of "Ceremony".
9	* ContinuityLockout: Much of what goes on in the story is very dependent on past stories. As such, any reader who hasn't seen any of IDW's previous stories and/or has only seen the TV shows beforehand will likely be confused as to why things are presented the way they are.
10	* DesignatedHero: Slide & Pyra Magna. While the two did participate in trying to stop Unicron, there were plenty of readers who felt that the focus on the two of them was unwarranted and unearned due to their unpleasant attitudes and questionable priorities. While Slide does get called out for hers in-story, Pyra Magna isn't, which upset many fans.
11	* MemeticMutation:
12	** The mini-series is known for being heavily compared to ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'', due to the two stories being dark, apocalyptic cross-overs in which the entire fictional setting comes together against a long-foretold GreaterScopeVillain. However, while ''Unicron'' is the true ending of the IDW universe with a BittersweetEnding, followed by a brief coda, ''Infinity War'' is merely the first part of the SeasonFinale of the Infinity Saga, the first part of the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse; furthermore, it ends with an infamous DownerEnding. Nonetheless, this didn’t stop numerous fan comparisons with ''Infinity War'' just for the fun of it, to the point that Website/TFWikiDotNet has quotes from the film as the captions for the comic's images.

14	* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Many fans did not react too kindly to the changes made to longtime aspects of certain characters, mainly the Maximals serving as cannon fodder minions for Unicron rather than a heroic faction, as well as Unicron being a [[TheVoiceless mostly-silent]] villain without the arrogance of many of his other versions on display.
15	* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter:
16	** As usual, leaving the [[ComicBook/JemAndTheHologramsIDW Jem]] comics out of it-- seeing their reaction to everything and anything they might've done to help could've been cool.
17	** The absence of [[ComicBook/TransformersMoreThanMeetsTheEye the Lost Light crew]] from the conflict considering this series was the GrandFinale of the IDW universe. The most we get is seeing the crew members who died [[spoiler: (Rung, Ambulon, Pipes, Trailbreaker, Skids, and Ravage)]] in the Afterspark.
