* BrokenBase: Like a lot of IDW's stories, this series is very divided on how fans feel about it. Some think that it's an appropriate ending to the IDW timeline, others feel that the writing wasn't handled very well.

** The mini-series is known for being heavily compared to ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'', due to the two stories being dark, apocalyptic cross-overs in which the entire fictional setting comes together against a long-foretold GreaterScopeVillain. However, while ''Unicron'' is the true ending of the IDW universe with a BittersweetEnding, followed by a brief coda, ''Infinity War'' is merely the first part of the SeasonFinale of the Infinity Saga, the first part of the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse; furthermore, it ends with an infamous DownerEnding. Nonetheless, this didn’t stop numerous fan comparisons with ''Infinity War'' just for the fun of it, to the point that Website/TFWikiDotNet has quotes from the film as the captions for the comic’s images.

** The absence of [[ComicBook/TransformersMoreThanMeetsTheEye the Lost Light crew]] from the conflict considering this series was the GrandFinale of the IDW universe. The most we get is seeing the crew members who died [[spoiler: (Rung, Ambulon, Pipes, Trailbreaker, Skids, and Ravage)]] in the Afterspark.

* DesignatedHero: Again, Slide & Pyra Magna. While the two did participate in trying to stop Unicron, there were plenty of readers who felt that the focus on the two of them was unwarranted and unearned due to their unpleasant attitudes and questionable priorities. While Slide does get called out for hers in-story, Pyra Magna isn't, which upset many fans.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: As usual, leaving the [[ComicBook/JemAndTheHologramsIDW Jem]] comics out of it-- seeing their reaction to everything and anything they might've done to help could've been cool.
* WhatAnIdiot: Slide spends more time focusing on her beef with Optimus than she does in trying to help stop Unicron from destroying everything.
