* AbandonShipping: [[spoiler: The reveals of many of the class's real ages torpedoed quite a lot of shipping potential for fans. The reveal that Shinji is over 50 years old in particular has made many people stop shipping him with anyone, especially Yuki.]]
* {{Adorkable}}:
** Even as a grown man, Teruya still has his moments of goofiness.
** Shinji's [[CannotTalkToWomen awkwardness around girls]] comes off as this as well.
** Yuri, despite being somewhat pervy to the girls around him, is also pretty cute and awkward at some moments.
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: In the epilogue, who is [[spoiler: the identity of the "reborn" Divine Luck holder within Akane/Sora's body? Although at a first glance, the answer seems to be simple: it seems to be presumably the personality implanted Yuki Maeda. However, other characters within the epilogue cast ambiguity on the nature of their identity and actively question if they are really Yuki Maeda and to what extent the personality override was successful.]]
** [[spoiler: In Sora's profile release post on their blog, [[WordOfGod LINUJ]] clarifies that the ambiguity is fully intentional and that they intended for the identity of the Divine Luck holder to be deliberately left a mystery, suggesting that it could be either, or a combination of, "Sora, Yuki and Utsuro."]]
* ArcFatigue: Chapter 3's trial is one of the longer ones in the series, fan made or not. While the culprit gets figured out relatively early most of the trial consists of breaking down all of [[spoiler: Kanade's]] alibies and counter arguments until they have nothing to fall back on and confess to the murder... only for the trial to continue on because Sora has a feeling that they're missing something until the group figures out that [[spoiler:Hibiki is also the killer]]. [[TropesAreTools Tropes Are Not Bad]] however as this trial is praised for its writing, twists, [[spoiler: and Kanade’s characterisation as one of the biggest HateSink’s in Danganronpa.]]
* AssPull: [[spoiler: In Chapter 6, it's revealed that the Yuki Maeda who's been in the game this whole time is an advanced replication of Yuki made from Yuki's BrainInAJar - the one part of him that's still alive - being hooked up to the VR system. The ForeShadowing for this reveal beforehand was virtually nonexistent, and it seems to only exist as a DiabolusExMachina to justify Yuki's mind being transferred into Sora/Akane's body in the end.]]
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Kokoro has become a controversial figure after [[spoiler: TheReveal in Chapter 0 that she gave birth to a child (Mikako Kurokawa from DR Another) as a means of using her for a confined, laboratory experiment. Most fans grew to dislike and loathe Kokoro for being an abusive parent. Other fans, while they don't approve of her actions, still like her and admit that it does make her more compelling as a character]].
** Yuri Kagarin. Some people view him as a clumsy and pervy men-hating CasanovaWannabe (case in point: at one moment he walks in the women's dressing room... [[FanDisservice while naked]], and also seems to get off on the GroinAttack that Sora inflicts to him shortly afterwards), which makes him essentially a mixture between [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Teruteru]] and [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony Tenko]], except cranked to extremes. Others, meanwhile, find him a pretty decent person who genuinely tries to help Sora during his Free Time Events (to the point that he is the only character who won't reject any presents given to him) and has a somewhat interesting backstory. [[spoiler:The fact that he becomes the SacrificalLamb of Chapter 1 to establish the Voids as the main threat does not really make things better, and the reveals in Chapter 6 that he basically created Monocrow's original program and once crossed paths with Akane Taira outright propels him into TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter territory.]]
** Kanade Otonokoji is [[CharacterPerceptionEvolution becoming increasingly divisive over time]]. [[spoiler: [[HateSink While clearly meant to be despised by fans]], whether she succeeds at being [[LoveToHate fascinatingly despicable]] or is just overly edgy for the sake of shock value is where the division lies. While originally seen as a far better character than [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony Korekiyo]], a character Kanade was clearly based off, it didn’t take long for many of the same complaints made against him to also apply to her. For some, she’s so over-the-top monstrous without any subtlety that it’s hard to take her seriously, while others feel there was more nuance in her troubled childhood relationship with her twin sister and how she was brought up that shaped her into the monster she is that get brushed aside in favor of acting like [[EnfantTerrible she was always like this.]] The possible implications that [[VillainousIncest gets off of her sister’s misery and treats her Yandere tendencies as “love”]] either adds to her complexity or is just pointlessly disgusting and contradictory to her actions. Likewise, her extreme intelligence, skills, and uncanny ability to use her sister as [[PeoplePuppets a personal puppet]] once she's [[HeroicBSOD hit a trauma limit]] is considered by some to be frustratingly unrealistic even by ''Danganronpa'' standards, making her come across as [[InvincibleVillain an unstoppable villain]] who is capable of impossible feats such as timing her stabbing of Setsuka perfectly, though her supporters argue this makes her more compelling and interesting while also serving to illustrate the power of Divine Luck when she loses, giving it purpose beyond just shock value.]]
* CaptainObviousReveal:
** [[spoiler:Kokoro getting killed was predicted shortly after she had proven her psychological abilities at the first class trial. Indeed, she becomes the victim of the following chapter.]]
** [[spoiler: Kanade being secretly evil is pretty obvious as soon as the first investigation, where she suddenly [[TookALevelInJerkass starts acting condescending towards others and acts incredibly apathetic to the murder of Yuri.]] It only gets more and more clear overtime with the very blatant Foreshadowing, so by the time you find Setsuka’s body, it’s practically screaming that Kanade was behind this. However, this could have been an IntendedAudienceReaction considering how she’s clearly set up to look like the sole culprit behind Setsuka’s murder, only for the twist to be that both Kanade and Hibiki killed her. What’s surprising isn’t really that Kanade is a BitchInSheepsClothing, but [[CompleteMonster how bad she really is]].]]
* CharacterPerceptionEvolution: Kanade Otonokoji was initially very well-liked [[spoiler: in a LoveToHate sense]] to the extent of getting 2nd place in an official popularity poll due to one big reason: [[spoiler:Chapter 3 and its revelation that she was a truly vile and depraved SerialKiller remorselessly removing anybody getting in-between herself and her demented love for her twin sister Hibiki, while being highly intelligent and going to very extreme lengths to avoid being caught]]. After the game concluded and the hype died down, Kanade began to be re-examined, with detractors arguing that she and the twists concerning her ultimately lacked relevance to the overall plot, [[spoiler:that her EvilAllAlong twist was too over-the-top and reliant on shock value to be taken seriously, her status as a SerialKiller with a high body count, much like Korekiyo from ''V3'', was not sufficiently foreshadowed and is based mostly in [[InformedAttribute what the character relays to us rather than on-screen murders]], that her {{Yandere}} "love" for Hibiki and how she gets aroused by Hibiki's trauma and despair was needlessly overdone to the point of seeming like VillainousIncest, and the idea of a simple teenage musician being able to get away with over 60 murders without even being suspected, and what she was shown to accomplish such as literally [[PeoplePuppets controlling Hibiki's actions]] whenever her sister went into [[HeroicBSOD a shellshocked state of mind]] and being able to time a double stabbing of Setsuka perfectly, broke the WillingSuspensionOfDisbelief]]. While Kanade is far from being legitimately hated, and others still argue that [[spoiler:her over-the-top nature as a villain works to make her more compelling and threating, while retaining story relevance by illustrating the threat of Divine Luck when she ultimately loses,]] she is now [[BaseBreakingCharacter more divisive]] than she used to be.
* CompleteMonster:
** [[spoiler:The [[AIIsACrapshoot alter ego]] of Mikado Sannoji is the [[BigBad mastermind]] of the Killing School Trip. Originally created to help Mikado find Utsuro, the alter ego struck out on his own, [[TurnedAgainstTheirMasters killing the original Mikado]] and kidnapping the participants for his killing game. Intent on overriding Yuki's consciousness to take his luck ability, "Mikado" set up the Virtual Reality system to kill people who die in his game and manipulates the peaceful Void group to join him, carelessly killing one Void member who faithfully followed his instructions, eventually killing all but one of them. Using Iroha to commit a murder, the alter ego tricks her into believing she is the true culprit and attempts to have all the remaining students executed. In the final trial, "Mikado" mocks his own created person and tries to convince her she committed crimes she was innocent of, and should "Mikado" win in the end, he kills two innocents, having fallen in love with murder.]]
** [[spoiler:[[SerialKiller Kanade Otonokoji]], though [[BitchInSheepsClothing seemingly sweet and shy]], is the [[AxCrazy psychopathic killer]] of Chapter 3. Mentally abusing her twin sister, Hibiki, since preschool in order to make the girl completely dependent on her, Kanade remorselessly murdered or crippled everyone who ever got close to her, from [[BadPeopleAbuseAnimals their pet dog]], to the teacher that Hibiki had a crush on, to even [[SelfMadeOrphan their parents]]. In the Killing Game, Kanade puts Hibiki in a trance to control her and forces Hibiki to murder Setsuka Chiebukuro to stop their friendship from disrupting the brainwashing. Then, just before their execution, Kanade makes Hibiki conscious again just to arouse herself with the sight of her sister breaking down. She also burns Setsuka's note, which contained important information, [[EvilIsPetty solely out of spite at being found out as the culprit]]. Despite being wholly unconnected to Void, Kanade eclipses all of them, even the mastermind, in cruelty.]]
* CrackPairing: Believe it or not, [[OppositesAttract Sora x Syobai]] is an actual ship; most of its popularity is credited to the Korean fanbase.
* [[{{SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments}} Crowning Moment Of Heartwarming]]: [[spoiler: At first, Kokoro's husband was on board with experimenting on their daughter but when she was born, [[PapaWolf his feelings of fatherhood won out]] and he [[EveryoneHasStandards took her away from Kokoro.]]]]
* DracoInLeatherPants:
** The ''Void'' members, sans Mikado, have received nothing but love and sympathy from the fandom thanks to their interesting personalities and their tragic backstory. A popular theme for most artists is to draw them [[EvilIsOneBigHappyFamily being happy together as close friends]].
** Syobai Hashimoto, due to his popularity, isn’t immune to this trope. Because of his [[FreudianExcuse tragic backstory]] and [[NobleDemon redeeming qualities]], albeit very few, many fans treat Syobai as an [[AntiVillain Anti-Villain]], or even a hidden softie, disregarding the fact that he’s a [[ProfessionalKiller Professional Killer]] and [[ItsAllAboutMe self-centered]] JerkAss who has absolutely no qualms about his career and lifestyle. His casual disregard for human life and inability to legitimately care about anyone besides himself makes him arguably even more villainous than Void (aside from possibly Mikado), the game’s main antagonists. Even his occasional acts of helpfulness are only done to benefit him, yet some fans act like his cooperativeness in the 3rd and 4th Trials are a sign that he has a [[HiddenHeartofGold Hidden Heart of Gold]], despite Syobai directly stating that he’s only doing this to save his own skin.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Shinji Kasai is also very liked by the fandom for his GentleGiant personality and also for having {{Adorkable}} moments around girls. His relationship with Yuki, as well as [[spoiler: his HeroicSuicide in Chapter 4 to avoid Yuki and/or Sora getting executed]] also help much.
* EpilepticTrees:
** In one of Yuri's Free Time events, he mentioned how his family hired a maid with a miserable past who inspired him to become a chivalrous gentleman to any and all girls. Fans have theorized that [[spoiler:the maid was none other than Akane Taira from ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaAnother'']]. [[spoiler: Confirmed as of chapter 6]].
** Another popular theory is that Syobai and Mikado are [[EveryoneIsRelated secretly brothers]] who are trying to outdo each other. [[spoiler: As of chapter 6, jossed]].
* FanficFuel: Now that the game has been completed, there are a lot of plot points that are subject to fan speculation.
** What happened to [[spoiler: Yoruko Kabuya]] after [[spoiler: she]] declined the Kisaragi Foundation's offer to join them.
** The mysterious nature of [[spoiler: the individual within Sora's real body, who is seemingly gifted with ''Divine Luck'']].
** [[spoiler: Syobai and Iroha]] going on the run from the law together despite their contrasting personalities.
** Although she admitted that the chances were slim-to-none, [[spoiler:Rei promising Yoruko that she'd try her best to extract Sora's data from the Neo World Program so they could possibly meet again one day. This one was even mentioned [[WordOfGod by LINUJ]] as a deliberate hanging thread that's left up to the players imagination.]]
* FoeYayShipping: In some circles, [[BigBad Mikado]] being shipped with [[KidHeroAllGrownUp Teruya]] or [[spoiler:[[TheStarscream Nikei]]]] has become quite popular thanks to their development in later chapters.
* GeniusBonus:
** The female students' costumes in Chapter 2 don't seem significant until the lore behind them is taken into account. [[spoiler:Emma and Iroha]] are dressed as a Kuchisake-onna and vampire, respectively, two monsters that have been portrayed as malicious in every classic incarnation they have appeared in. Considering how the other girls are dressed as figures that have been seen as both good and evil (i.e., Yoruko as a witch, Sora as a yurei, and Setsuka as an {{Oni}}), this becomes blatant {{Foreshadowing}} for [[spoiler: when it is revealed that Emma and Iroha are members of Void]].
** Kanade's Terminate Talk Shooting segment shows her with a distinctive-looking black and red guitar. Music aficionados will recognize it as a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_Flying_V Gibson Flying V]], famously used by [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K._K._Downing K. K. Downing]] of Music/JudasPriest. [[spoiler:Considering that the chapter where this takes place is called "The Girl Who Looked at the Devil in the Abyss", that Setsuka's body is positioned at the Devil's Altar, the HellishPupils Kanade shows in several of her sprites, her dislike of [[HolyBurnsEvil holy water]], and Judas Priest's [[RockMeAsmodeus alleged Satanic connections]], this could be a sly way of comparing [[CompleteMonster Kanade]] to the devil himself.]]
** In Chapter 3, [[spoiler:the Otonokojis' dog, whom Kanade [[BadPeopleAbuseAnimals killed]] when she was very young, is named Shiro. This is likely a reference to the [[Myth/JapaneseMythology Japanese folktale]] of "Hanasaki Jii-san", where a neighbor kills the titular old man's dog Shiro out of jealousy]].
** During Chapter 4's Argument Armament segment, [[spoiler: Nikei takes the appearance of the [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Greek god Hermes]]. While this may seem strange at first, it makes sense given that Hermes was a messenger god who delivered messages to the gods and also played tricks among them. This ties in with Nikei's talent as a reporter whose job it is to find important news and share his message with the world. The trickster part also applies to him [[TheStarscream trying to deceive and betray his superior]] Mikado]].
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: As you can tell, [=SDRA2=] is big among the Western side of the world.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** During Shinji's introduction:
--->'''Shinji:''' …Yo, Yuki. You shoulda told me there was a girl watching. [[spoiler:I wanna kill myself right now.]]
** This line from trial two, with the later reveal of [[spoiler:the state of [[BrainInAJar Yuki's physical body]]]].
--->'''Kanade:''' On the topic of school rules, there was another one the killer violated for this case.
--->'''Yuki:''' You mean… the vandalism?
--->'''Kanade:''' Wow, Yuki! There may be a brain in there after all!
** [[spoiler: Chapter 3 has Kanade mention that there's only one step left for Hibiki to become her mental puppet, namely killing their parents. It's revealed that she did that already outside of the killing game.]]
* HoYay:
** [[SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan Yuki and Shinji]] is a well loved ship thanks to the firefighter being so thoughtful and caring towards Yuki in his rugged, manly way.
** [[RedOniBlueOni Yoruko and Sora]] has been one of the top lesbian ships in the fandom thanks to Yoruko being one of Sora's closest and reliable companions throughout the story.
* ItWasHisSled:
** [[spoiler: Hajime, Emma, Iroha and Nikei are the other Void members. Countless fanarts have grouped them together as a whole and/or outright refer to them as Void.]]
** [[spoiler: Kanade Otonokoji is a SerialKiller.]]
* JerkassWoobie:
** Hibiki Otonokoji. She initially appears as an abrasive, foul-tempered girl that is way too harsh on her timid younger sister, but she's the first to crack under pressure and starts to evoke much more sympathy as a result. Not only that, but the only two who are willing to lend her emotional support are Kanade, her most frequent target, and Setsuka, who becomes her closest friend as a result. [[spoiler:Then, there's Chapter 3. After her CharacterDevelopment, the motive video seems to completely shatter her newfound confidence, devastating her far worse than even any of the other students. [[HopeSpot Setsuka comes to her comfort...]] only for the latter to promptly end up brutally murdered the next day, leaving Hibiki shell-shocked for the entire investigation. [[FromBadToWorse Then there's the Chapter 3 trial]], in which it's uncovered that Hibiki ''entirely unknowingly'' murdered Setsuka alongside Kanade, forcing her to be executed alongside her sister... who reveals to everyone post-trial that she's been butchering ''every'' living thing to get between the two and breaking her sister's mind so she'll depend on her since they were kids, leaving Hibiki falling into a state of TraumaInducedAmnesia, and eventually [[DespairEventHorizon becoming so broken with grief]] that she entered a numb and emotionally blank state which Kanade has trained her to enter on-command, [[SympatheticMurderer resulting in the poor girl not even knowing what she's done or that she's about to be executed until just before the punishment begins]]. She basically ''wakes up'' in the final minutes of her life to learn she's going to be executed for something she was made to do, and she spends most of those minutes screaming and sobbing for someone to save her.]].
** [[spoiler: Iroha Nijue, especially when she is relating her backstory of horrific childhood abuse from her own family in Chapter 6. It’s little wonder she ended up as such an emotionally stunted DirtyCoward.]]
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: [[TheStoic Sora]] is the most shippable character in the [=SDRA2=] cast thanks to her serious personality giving way to some interesting dynamics when paired with her more eccentric classmates.
* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt:
** At the start of the story, many fans were shocked when [[spoiler: Sora ended up getting stabbed by Syobai in the prologue]] as they believed that [[spoiler: they were duped into thinking that the protagonist was a girl only for her to be killed off in the beginning. [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony Again]].]] But to their relief, not only does [[spoiler: Sora survive the attack but she gets to continue the role as the POV Protagonist for a majority of the game]].
** The same thing happens in Chapter 4, where [[spoiler:Sora is believed to have been murdered by Iroha, if not by the explosion that occurs in the tower. The game even throws a BaitAndSwitch by making Syobai the protagonist of a significant chunk of the rest of the chapter, right before Sora takes over in the middle of the class trial.]]
* LoveToHate: [[spoiler:Kanade Otonokoji. Despite being essentially designed from the ground up as perhaps the single most '''vile''' killer in the history of the franchise, she is one of the most popular and iconic characters in the game, owing to how utterly chilling and effective she is as a villainess. That she puts together a legitimately near perfect murder plot (to the point the heroes only succeed through an almost literal DuesExMachina in Utsuro's Divine Luck), and that [[TheBadGuyWins she still ultimately gets]] the [[DieLaughing last laugh]] despite being caught and executed, just makes her all the more beloved, to the point where she actually placed second only next to Sora herself in LINUJ's character popularity poll.]]
* MemeticMolester:
** [[spoiler: Kanade]] has become this after [[spoiler: her disturbing portrayal as a yandere in the third trial]].
** Mikado is this with [[NoSenseOfPersonalSpace his certain disregard of personal space]] and [[BoundAndGagged how he reintroduced Teruya to the group]].
* MemeticMutation:
** #STOPMIKADOABUSE [[labelnote:Explanation]] A hashtag created by the Youtube fandom calling to end the mistreatment and humiliation of [[BigBad Mikado]] from his peers.[[/labelnote]]
** Yoruko is the new Hagakure. [[labelnote:Explanation ('''SPOILERS''')]]As of Chapter 4, Yoruko has the highest chance of survival even though she's uninvolved and irrelevant to the storyline.[[/labelnote]]
** Buff Yuri. [[labelnote:Explanation ('''SPOILERS''')]]Chapter 5 showed us Yuri with an older and more masculine appearance; the fandom in general had a field day with this.[[/labelnote]]
** COCO ASS. [[labelnote:Explanation ('''SPOILERS''')]]A typo during a translation for Chapter 0 that misspelled Kokoro's name. Though given TheReveal of her attempting to use her baby girl for an experiment, the name feels appropriate.[[/labelnote]]
** Boomer Shinji. [[labelnote:Explanation ('''SPOILERS''')]]In the chapter 6 it is revealed that Shinji in the real world is in his fifties. "Boomer Shinji" quickly became a [[FanNickname popular nickname among the fandom]] for this version of him.[[/labelnote]]
** Deadlocked quarantine. [[labelnote:Explanation ('''SPOILERS''')]]In chapter 4, Teruya locks every living student (except Syobai) inside the Tower of Babel in order to prevent them from committing any more murders. Coincidentally, the English translation for this chapter was being released during the UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic and subsequent quarantine. Because of this, some viewers started to make jokes about Teruya keeping everyone safe from Coronavirus.[[/labelnote]]
** Anything to do with Nikei and hands and/or guns. [[labelnote:Explanation ('''SPOILERS''')]]In chapter 4's post-trial, Nikei pulls a gun out and tries to shoot everyone. It doesn't work as said gun explodes, blowing up Nikei's hand and rendering him useless. The fandom ran wild with this, to the point where [[NeverLiveItDown it's one of Nikei's defining traits]].[[/labelnote]]
** 3rd party, my ass. Quit your bullshit. [[labelnote:Explanation]] During the third chapter Scrum Debate Mikado sarcastically wonders if Sora is suggesting an unknown third party being involved in the murder somehow, after extensive discussion and many hours of trial already gone by. Syobai responds with this line, which has become a meme. [[/labelnote]]
** As this [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmULNmt8m7M compilation video shows]], [[BitchInSheepsClothing Kanade]] casually insulting her classmates has become this to fans.
** Buff Monocrow.[[labelnote:Explanation ('''SPOILERS''')]]Hajime's execution has a significantly bulkier Monocrow beat his face to a pulp. People couldn't help but compare his physique to certain characters from ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'', especially with his attacks being compared to ORAORAORA or MUDAMUDAMUDA.[[/labelnote]]
* {{Moe}}: Iroha thanks to her cute but bashful personality.
* MoralEventHorizon: You'd be surprised how many characters who aren't clown-looking masterminds have crossed the line.
** For starters, there's [[spoiler: [[BitchInSheepsClothing Kanade]] who is revealed to have a long history of killing or physically harming anyone who got too close to her sister Hibiki in order to break Hibiki's psyche and eventually turn Hibiki into her own personal puppet. It's even implied that she was able to brainwash her sister to be compliant in several of those murders and accidents]].
** Then there's [[spoiler: [[TheSmartGirl Kokoro]] who was interested in studying "primitive emotions" and gave birth to a child as a means of using them for the experiment. Said experiment involved having the baby live her life in a confined laboratory, even implanting a memory chip into her brain to record her memories and personal information. There's also the fact that Kokoro had planned to use a sperm donor for her experiment but learned one of her workers had a crush on her, which made things 'simpler'. In other words, Kokoro took advantage of her husband's feelings]].
** In the 6th chapter, [[spoiler: [[FriendInTheBlackMarket Syobai]] is revealed to have been hired by Alter Ego!Mikado to help create his killing game. This involved murdering the real Mikado along with kidnapping a majority of the participants who were recognized as the "Hopes of the Next Generation". He's also a ProfessionalKiller who has no issue with killing/hurting people for profit or if they get in his way]].
* NeverLiveItDown:
** [[spoiler: The sheer reputation of the Otonokoji sisters (moreso with Kanade) has had such a profound effect on the Fanganronpa community that any other games that feature identical twin characters had those characters be harkened back to either them or Junko and Mukuro. It is quite common to be suspicious of twin characters as either victims of Chapter 3, or killers to make a nod towards this game (bonus points if one of the twins has a very, very dark history). In other words, they stained an ''entire'' character archetype with their dark deeds.]]
** [[spoiler: Nikei blowing his own hand off while firing a revolver in Chapter 4 had a similar effect on the fanbase, with ''various'' hand jokes being instantly born.]]
* ShockingMoments: '''Chapter 5'''. [[spoiler: For the first time in any Killing Game, both canon and fanon-wise, the main group chooses the ''wrong'' culprit resulting in a ''mass execution''. Thankfully they manage to survive since the simulation crashes before they can die, but this was still a full blown sequence that took the fandom by storm]].
* {{Squick}}: [[spoiler: Emma taking on the appearance of a pile of flesh during the ''Void'' Theater segments. Thankfully she's censored enough so we don't get to see the grosser details.]]
** [[spoiler: During the Chapter 5 Void Theater segment, Emma and Hajime both explain to Nikei how they still have mouths and eyes...by physically pulling out those bloodied parts.]]
* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: ''Super Danganronpa Another 2'' is considered more popular compared to it's predecessor. This comes with the sequel having a significant AnimationBump along with its characters looking more appealing and unique compared to the first cast. There's also the fact that DRA is less known since there are [[LostInTranslation little to no playthroughs with English subtitles]].
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: [[spoiler: While Nikei managed to get an appearance as a robot in chapter 6 (only to get blown up by Mikado after revealing information about him), Hajime and Emma were simply relegated to one last (admittedly heartwarming) Void Theater.]]
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic:
** To some fans, [[spoiler: Iroha]] comes off as this. While it's true that [[spoiler: she comes off as a timid girl who is being pressured by her superior [[BigBad Mikado]] to commit murder which is a serious issue, she loses sympathy because of her [[DirtyCoward begging her colleague Nikei to murder someone for her]] along with [[NeverMyFault blaming Emma for supposedly placing her in this situation]], as well as the fact that Sora, Yuki, and Yoruko are all willing to have her as a friend before they've learned she's in Void, yet she tries to kill Sora and then is entirely willing to go through with trying to get them all executed so that she can get away with a murder she'd (mistakenly) believed she committed]].
** Also to an extent, [[spoiler: Yuki. While his reactions are pretty accurate for a normal person in such a situation, he still comes off as quite the asshole by lashing out at everyone, including the two students who he was previously closest with. And that's not even mentioning some of his furious sprites, which really don't match the kind and empathetic personality he's usually associated with. Later on, it's turned out that his pessimistic behavior was the result of the Voids goal trying to mentally break down Yuki to turn him into Utsuro]].
* UnpopularPopularCharacter:
** Second only to Mikado, Syobai is the [[TheFriendNobodyLikes least likable person among his peers]] because of his rude and antisocial personality. [[AppealToInherentNature (Not that it bothers him)]]. Outside of the game, Syobai is one of the most well liked characters among the different sides of the fandom and gets a lot of attention and fanart as a result.
** [[BigBad Mikado]] is HatedByAll in-universe. Within the fandom, he's one of the most well-known and popular characters from this game.
** Despite everything about her (or possibly because of it), Kanade managed to get the second place in the popularity poll, only falling short to Sora.
* TheWoobie: Good God Yuki Maeda has suffered more than any other Danganronpa character in both fandom and canon.[[spoiler: He's nearly killed during the prologue. By the end of Chapter 3, he's completely disillusioned by all the deaths on the island such that he begins to lash out at his friends. Then, in Chapter 4, he's set up for murder, which involves him unintentionally slitting the throat of Shinji, his best friend. During the trial of that same chapter, he not only learns that his other friend, Sora, tried to finish the job, but also that Shinji ended up killing himself so that both of them could live. And soon after said trial, he's told that Void started the killing game to break his will. As of Chapter 5, he's so far gone to the point of attempting to slit his own throat, and in the final chapter, he's forced to learn that, among other things, his real body has been reduced to a BrainInAJar]]. It's hard not to feel sorry for him after all of this.
