!!Graveyard Shift:
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Count Orlok revealed as the one flickering the lights.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: The Hash-Slinging Slasher had his hand cut off, replaced it with a rusty spatula, and was killed by being run over over by a bus. And to add insult to injury, he was fired during his funeral!
* FranchiseOriginalSin: This is one of the very first instances where Mr. Krabs enforces a very unethical policy at the Krusty Krab, having it be open 24/7 with nobody being able to go home, but it's more {{downplayed|trope}} here by virtue of the fact that not only does Mr. Krabs [[HypocriticalHumor not follow the policy himself]], but said policy is only used for the sake of a FramingDevice, allowing for nighttime shenanigans that aren't often seen in episodes. Plus, the ending indicated he was planning on hiring more help, not that it or the nighttime shift stuck.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: Squidward tells [=SpongeBob=] that the Hash Slinging Slasher cut off his own hand by mistake. [=SpongeBob=] replies, "You mean like this?", and demonstrates by pulling his own arm out and growing a new one. Squidward's reaction is priceless. [[OverlyLongGag Then he proceeds to do the same thing a couple dozen times.]]
* GeniusBonus: The signs of the Hash-Slinging Slasher occurring around 3:00 AM will seem more amusing with the idea of the time being the neigh of paranormal activity.
* IAmNotShazam: Count Orlok is misnamed as "Nosferatu" in the episode. And his later appearances.
* InferredHolocaust: [=SpongeBob=] and Squidward never getting to stop working would inevitably take a toll on their physical and mental health, not to mention [=SpongeBob=] no longer being able to feed Gary or get to hang out with Patrick. While this obviously isn't shown due to the episode lasting just one night, "[[Recap/SpongeBobSquarePantsS4E1FearOfAKrabbyPattyShellOfAMan Fear of a Krabby Patty]]" would retroactively go on to show the consequences of this episode.
* MemeticMutation:
** "Who wants [X] at 3 in the morning?! Oh boy, 3AM!" Usually used to poke fun at people who stay up really late.
** "Look, I'm [verb]... ''at night!''" Used for the same reason above.
* OneSceneWonder:
** Count Orlok only appears very briefly at the end, but he's one of the most memorable parts of the episode, so much so that he became a recurring character in the seasons after ''WesternAnimation/TheSpongebobMovieSpongeOutOfWater''.
** Patrick appears for five seconds for a single line in this episode. It's the most quoted and memetic line from the entire episode.
* ParodyDisplacement: Count Orlok is now better known for his appearance at the very end of this episode to modern viewers and millennials.
* {{Woolseyism}}: Several dubs (including Russian) mentioned the Hash-Slinging Slasher having been ''cremated'' rather than fired after being run over. The line [[CrossesTheLineTwice is still crossed twice]] because the main cast live ''underwater'', [[WaterIsAir somewhere the fire is not supposed to normally be]].

!!Krusty Love:
* CrossesTheLineTwice: Mr. Puff was murdered and turned into a lampshade.
* FridgeBrilliance: $100,000 was how much Mr. Krabs spent on his dinner date with Mrs. Puff. This might seem like a comically exaggerated number, but then one remembers Krabs freak-out to his bill nearly tarnishing the restaurant. Perhaps the bill was a smaller, yet still expensive number, with the rest being for the property damage he caused.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: Mr. Krabs wonders what happened to Mr. Puff. He was turned into a lampshade.
* HarsherInHindsight: When the episode first aired, the idea of two small meals at a restaurant being a whopping $100 was considered fictitious and laughable. Prices have unfortunately gone far up since then, to the point that $100 for two meals at a fancy restaurant would now be considered a good deal in many parts of the world.
%%ZCE* JerkassWoobie: Mr. Krabs.
* MemeticMutation:
** "We're not talking about ''this'' or ''this''. We're talking about ''THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS!!!!!!!!!!!!''" Often used as a jab toward fandoms that are hard to please.
** The image of Mrs. Puff laying on her new bed with all of her gifts scattered around which is used to reference either rich people or people who completed an unnecessary shopping spree.
** The time card "A few moments later", which appeared in this episode, has been one of the most, if not ''the'' most used time card in other media, even outside the [=SpongeBob=] fandom.
* {{Woolseyism}}: Two different language dubs manage to make [=SpongeBob=]'s gibberish rant at the end even funnier than it already is in English.
** The Italian dub doesn't have [=SpongeBob=] speaking in gibberish at all, instead telling Mr. Krabs that he's [[RageBreakingPoint done with his shenanigans]] and recommending that he shove his wallet, "[[AssShove where the sun don't shine]]."
** The Dutch dub still has [=SpongeBob=] rant in gibberish, but intermittently sprinkled in are [[SoundEffectBleep censor beeps]], making it sound like he's actually cursing.
