* CompleteMonster: In life, [[spoiler:[[ResurrectedMurderer Roland Joseph Sable]] was a [[EvilTeacher photography teacher]] who would [[ParentalIncest rape his daughter]] and take photos of his assaults. When her friends tried to help her, Sable, in a rage, had them hunted down and sadistically tortured to death, leaving only one survivor before his death. Possessing [[MagicalCamera his camera]] after his death, Sable's [[GhastlyGhost ghost]] now stalks and murders those whose photos his camera takes. Killing the survivor of his original murder spree by having him ripped in half, Sable decides to murder the remaining heroes out of spite.]]
* HarsherInHindsight: The fact that the film's main villain committed sexual abuse becomes this when you realize that ''Polaroid'' was originally meant to be released by Creator/TheWeinsteinCompany around the same time Harvey Weinstein's history of sexual abuse came to light.
* MoralEventHorizon: Roland Sable crossed it when [[spoiler:he sexually abused his own daughter (driving her to suicide) and killed her friends when they tried to help her]].
* {{Narm}}:
** First off… the monster of this movie is basically a camera, and can't even do anything unless people actively take a picture. Not to mention the fact that the camera used in the movie isn't even a real Polaroid!
** It is obvious that all of the death scenes are as PG-13 as it gets.
* OvershadowedByControversy: This movie, along with the Thomas Edison biopic ''Film/TheCurrentWar'', ended up becoming one of the casualties after the sexual abuse allegations against Harvey Weinstein of the Weinstein Company, which was going to distribute both films. Lantern Entertainment (whose parent company bought out many of the Weinstein Company's assets) [[https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/benedict-cumberbatchs-current-war-get-international-release-1150266 acquired the distribution rights for both films]], and the film ultimately got released in 2019.
* SpiritualAdaptation: Wanted a movie based off of the ''Literature/{{Goosebumps}}'' book ''Say Cheese and Die''? This is probably the closest thing you'll get. They even both have characters named Bird!
