* AdaptationDisplacement: The original ''Film/OneMillionBC'' with Victor Mature and Carole Landis largely vanished from the culture after this version came out. Probably this was because Creator/RayHarryhausen's StopMotion effects were such an improvement on the original's solely {{Slurpasaur}} approach, as well as the increasing ValuesDissonance with its use of actual fighting animals. And Creator/RaquelWelch and her FurBikini stealing the show, of course.
* AndYouThoughtItWouldFail: When she took the role [[VacationDearBoy for the free trip to London]], Raquel Welch had every expectation that this silly dinosaur movie would be quickly forgotten. She was somewhat confounded that it remained her most iconic role even decades later, although she seemed to accept it in good humor.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: At times, Mario Nascimbene's soundtrack feels like it belongs more to a biblical epic.
* BestKnownForTheFanservice: The film is mostly remembered for Raquel Welch in a FurBikini.
* JustHereForGodzilla: There are two things in this film that people care about -- Ray Harryhausen's dinosaurs and Creator/RaquelWelch in a FurBikini. The plot and characters, such as they are, tend to be ignored.
* NarmCharm: A lot of moments that are supposed to be scary have this.
* NightmareFuel: After killing their mother, the Rhamphorhynchus proceeds to eat the baby Pteranodons alive.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Tumak's father and chief of their cavemen tribe? That's Robert Brown, aka M, the boss of the Film/{{James Bond}}s played by Creator/RogerMoore and Creator/TimothyDalton in ''Film/{{Octopussy}}'', ''Film/AViewToAKill'', ''Film/TheLivingDaylights'' and ''Film/LicenceToKill''.
* SignatureScene: Raquel Welch being carried off by a Pteranodon.
* TearJerker:
** The funeral for the Shell tribe man who got killed.
** A weird example, but it's hard not to feel bad for the Pteranodon family. The mother is killed by a Rhamphorhynchus when all she wanted was to feed her babies. Her babies are promptly ''eaten alive'' by her killer.
* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome:
** Ray Harryhausen's dinosaurs, while dated, are still a delight to watch. The man produced some of the very best StopMotion in movie history, after all.
** The giant turtle. Admit it, you thought they used a real turtle when you first saw it.
