* CrossoverShip: Eno and [[Webcomic/{{Paranatural}} Mr. Spender]]. Amusingly enough, it was launched by the authors themselves, who are dating in RealLife.
* HoYay: Between Biv and Kip, mostly from Biv.
-->'''Kate:''' You on a date?
-->'''Kip:''' ''NO''.
-->'''Biv:''' Not ''today''. *leans all over Kip*
** Between Kip and Wallace too, or at least Molly and Biv seem to think so.
** The comic itself is laden with this pretty much, mostly coming from how some of them interact.
** Later on, Pascal shows up who seems to be an OldFlame of Kip. From then on, it becomes really clear that they will become one of the comic's [[OfficialCouple Official Couples]].
* JerkassWoobie: The monsters who treat Wallace rudely as he tries to do his job as a social worker. As Louise explains, they don't hate ''him'' personally, just what he--as a human from the richest district--represents (i.e., discrimination), so of course they don't want him around telling them how to live their lives.
** Charlie in particular is an enormous {{Jerkass}} and it's difficult to sympathize with him, even after Louise explains how hard things have been for them. [[spoiler: This is probably because his first instinct upon meeting Wallace is to attack him]].
** Attitudes toward Charlie seems to be changing with the reveal that [[spoiler:he was involved in experiments against his will and lost an eye to them.]]
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Wallace. He has been shipped with Kip, Pascal, Ben and Roy.
* {{Moe}}: The cartoony, cutesy character design has everybody fall into this, monster or human. Especially, Wallace and Kip.
* RomanticPlotTumor: The hinted-at romance between Kip and Wallace, who have barely even talked to each other, know only the barest of details, and whose relationship might actually turn out to be a tremendous conflict of interest...gets a surprising amount of screen time. The artist spends a lot of time shipping them, when they've barely even met.
** Subverted later on. Wallace and Kip start hanging out so Kip can help Wallace to do his job, their relationship gets increasingly friendly. Later on, it also becomes clear that they aren't meant to be seen as a couple, but rather as friends. Chapter 3 has Kip being heavily teased to be with Pascal in the future, while Chapter 4 starts teasing heavily Wallace/Ben.
