* {{Adorkable}}:
** Despite his stoic exterior Jonathan smiles and laughs at the little things in life like stuffed toys and going to the beach - remember that he was a ChildSoldier in the Middle East, meaning that this was probably Jonah's ''first'' time at the beach.
** Schokolade is a communications and electronics specialist, but very cute and bubbly.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: In season one, the opening song, [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xrd7pd_mami-kawada-borderland-pv_music "Borderland"]] by Music/MamiKawada and the endings, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS6PFrxdjCU "Ambivalentidea"]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXRGwzF_gLQ "Shiroku Yawaraka na Hana"]] by Nagi Yanagi all definitely qualify.
** For season two, we get a new opening song, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfLbHBbh_MY "UNDER/SHAFT"]] by Music/MaonKurosaki, and the return of Nagi Yanagi with [[https://soundcloud.com/bii-iuv/nagi-yanagi-laterality-a-k-a "Laterality"]], the ending.
** The [[TitleDrop appropriately named]] track for this series from the original soundtrack, played during the first episode of the first anime season--and when [[spoiler: Hex and her crew was finished off by a B-52 bombing]]. Enter: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmWla4Pz8Zs "Jormungand"]].''
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T07zIS6Pfc "Sense of Crisis"]] from the Jormungand: Perfect Order [=OST=] gives the show a somewhat surreal feel with all the piano music.
** ''Perfect Order's'' first episode has an incredible French rap in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV1jzleFhRA "L'ambition mélodique"]].
* BrokenBase: Fan opinion was split on the ending, with one side believing it was a NoEnding that didn't really resolve anything, while the other side argues that it leaves future events open to interpretation. Others argue that the plan itself was a failure from the start and that the ending was a way of avoiding having to actually write it. Some readers/viewers have taken the opinion that the manga is a cautionary tale to be careful on getting involved with someone who is known to be charismatic, but may be like Koko (or to a lesser extent, Kaspar) even though said person is known to have done things that are considered wrong.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Despite having no named members, zero lines and a role that amounts to little more than a cameo. [[BadassCrew Seal Team 9]], A.K.A "Night Nine", proved popular enough to crack the top twenty in a popularity poll.
** Speaking of popularity polls, the [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff Japanese must]] ''[[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff really]]'' love Schokolade enough to have her came in ''third place'' at the aforementioned poll. Coming ahead of other characters like Koko and Lehm, despite only being a secondary character. Not bad for an airheaded CIA ditz.
* EpilepticTrees: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvYpfeaMuPU There's this Youtube commentary]] that would suggest Koko is using Jormungand to test humanity and their limits against her perspective and get through pain and suffering.
* HarsherInHindsight: Hex's backstory of being drummed out of the military over opposition of having women in special forces is harsh for her. In July 2020, an unnamed woman passed Green Beret trials and is on active duty. Former Lieutenant Colonel Kathleen Wilder mentioned in interviews that while she was denied to be operational with the Green Berets in the 1980s due to being a woman, her record changed over time to show that she legally participated. But this was after she retired.
* LesYay:
** Between Valmet and Koko, mostly from Valmet although Koko mentions that she somewhat reciprocates in an unguarded moment with Lehm.
** Valmet has Mildo, a CuteAndPsycho mercenary who is obsessed with her but Valmet finds her annoying.
*** Mildo also seems particularly close to Koko.
** A little bit between Koko and Schokolade given the way the latter blushes when Koko plays PersonalSpaceInvader. On the whole, though, Schokolade comes off as more of a CloudCuckooLander than seriously attracted to Koko.
** Dr. Miami seems to also be attracted to Valmet, calling her "eye candy" when it's suggested to Koko the team could use the hot spring at the Toy Factory they set up in Africa, she also comments that Baburin is [[HiddenBuxom surprisingly well endowed]].
*** Dr. Miami would also love to have her new bodyguard, [[spoiler:Karen Low]], such big breasts as Valmet for her to fondle, which she unfortunately hasn't.
* MagnificentBitch:
** Koko Hekmatyar is a brilliant young ArmsDealer who runs her organization with [[TheUnfettered ruthless efficiency]]. Constantly making advantageous illegal deals and dictating the course of conflicts, Koko adopts the young former child soldier Jonah as a way to keep herself shackled to her humanity, frequently taking on those who attempt to undermine or kill her while leading them to their own demises in breathtakingly impressive fashion. Koko is revealed to despise the arms trade despite her skill with it, and puts Project Jormungand into play: a plan to use a satellite system to seal the skies from humanity, destroying all aircraft in the sky at once to force world peace, believing herself to be the one to create a true peace for the world, even successfully pushing Jonah into agreeing with the plan at the end, declaring her personal soldiers will be the final soldiers left.
** Lehm Brick, leader of Koko's defense detail, is an OldSoldier whose years of experience and command turned Koko's Squad into becoming one of the world's most elite militia in the world. A former US Major, Lehm joined Koko after growing desensitized toward both war and his nation's ideals, deciding to believe in Koko's plans. Cold and tactical, Lehm used his experience to turn his squad into an elite group maintaining a standard of a professional unit, leading charges and adapting his strategy on the fly whether through command or his own hands. Believing in Koko's plan for world peace, Lehm ultimately leads the group in accomplishing it, perfectly executions the military operations against their many foes against them while making sure they don't lose themselves in the bloodshed, even saving Jonah's from his child soldier mentality to give them a better life.
** William "Wiley" Nelson is the group's demolition expert whose skills with explosives have made him one of the group's deadliest member. An engineering school graduate, Wiley sought a different path from his family and joined the US Army, learning quickly his gift in demolition, earning him a role in the military's sabotage operation, capable of salvaging the situation with even minimum explosives. Joining Lehm in Koko's squad, Wiley's demolition skill saved the group numerous times, quickly using his explosives to turn the table against, anyone foiling numerous attacks in creative ways. When fighting the [[RogueAgent rogue MI6]] group Excalibur, Wiley was able to turn the situation around despite being outgun and outnumbered, with clever uses of his few bombs, using their limited range and field tactics to decimate them flawlessly. While seemingly quiet and unassuming, Wiley is seen as the most dangerous member of the group with his demolition expertise, on par with only Koko herself.
** Dr. Minami "Miami" Amada is the best friend of Koko and her right-hand woman in Operation Undershaft. A genius in robotics, Miami was recruited by the military to create the most sophisticated systems to develop their weaponry, revolutionizing the industry. Hating what her creations were used for, Miami decided to join with Koko in her plan for world peace by masterminding Undershaft, a plan to single-handily destroy the air space and cripple the whole world's weapon capabilities. Coming up with the theory, Miami has Koko get what she needs, including robbing government bodies and kidnapping specific personal of her choosing, all the while using her genius to disable their opponents, including overwriting the US's top system. Winning over her hostage with her charm, she's able to complete Undershaft, and launch it to end war around the world, satisfied despite the sacrifices she made.
** "Dance with Undershaft" arc: Hex is a radical CIA agent and one of Koko's fiercest and long-running enemies. Having a deep-rooted hatred for terrorism, Hex ruthlessly uses any means necessary to eradicate them, setting her sights on Koko, believing her a threat. Arranging an army to have her killed, Hex claimed the life of Echo but ended up traumatized by her casualties. Vowing revenge, Hex joined Bookman to watch Koko, all the while using her connections to hire assassins against her to gather data. With the data gathering complete, Hex decided to go behind her superior's back to launch her attack, winning over a squad of elite soldiers to her cause before ambushing her at the Czech Republic, fatally injuring Jonah, and nearly killing Koko herself, only stopped the betrayal of her own comrades. When Koko launches a bomb raid for revenge, Hex faces it with no regret, vowing to battle Koko again Hell before shooting herself to not give Koko the satisfaction of killing her.
* MemeticMutation: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aTJAQpJBdc "Her name is Koko. She is loco. I said ‘Oh no!’"]]
** Due to Jonah's physical appearance [[http://imgur.com/SQZ4WKE bearing a heavy resemblance]] to the Ishvalans from ''Manga/FullMetalAlchemist'', the series sometimes gets called "Ishvalans with Guns".
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: While not to the extent of ''Anime/BlackLagoon'', many of the fight scenes and characters run on this. Can't shoot a bulletproof armored van while driving down the road at 60 miles an hour? No problem, just jump on the roof, jump across to their car, slip inside while they're reloading and slit all their throats. Anti-tank missile? Please. Throw it off course with a grenade explosion.
* StoicWoobie: Jonah. The poor kid has been through hell, and continues to work [[ChildSoldiers as a child soldier]], yet he rarely expresses any sign of unhappiness.
* StrawmanHasAPoint: Regardless of her methods, it's hard to disagree with Hex when she says that Koko is a threat, and the only way to stop her is to kill her, because she can't be tamed.
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: The world is plagued by constant fighting and the main characters are a selfish weapons dealer with a plan to save the world that, in reality, would kill more people than it would save, and her group of hired guns.
