* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Harry, for obvious reasons. He comes across as having more of an American action hero feel to him; he keeps a gun because it might come in useful, he drawls, he's quick to throw witty and sarcastic remarks at authority figures, and he draws a lot of inspiration from American military procedures. It does make sense as older Harry did spend a lot of time with the Americans following the deaths of his friends but it can be jarring when comparing him to the very British school boy he was the first time around.
** Mr. Granger is turned from someone who is implied to be a bit timid from canon sources into a highly firm and protective father who reacts with consternation to the idea of boys interested in his daughter and was actually prepared to pull Hermione out of Hogwarts when he learned about the dangers and pureblood racism present at Hogwarts.
** Charlie Weasley also apparently gets a change from "genial older brother" to "insanely overprotective brother" who feels the need to make death threats against Harry.
* BrokenBase: For the same reasons as FanFic/Team8. It's partly due to both fics' overbearing popularity, but a number of readers simply dislike the way in which many events and characters are depicted overall (and this isn't just limited to Shipping). You're either going to love this fic, hate it, or respect the authorial style while disapproving of the plot. No other grounds seem to exist.
* CompleteMonster: Lord Voldemort in the BadFuture is even more brutal and vicious than in canon, cursing his followers to die should he be killed. Realizing that Harry Potter was finding and destroying his Horcruxes, Voldemort responded by sacking Hogwarts, murdering anyone who resisted him. Over the next 13 years, Voldemort and his Death Eaters devastated much of Europe, turned Durmstrang into an AcademyOfEvil, and purged much of the British Isles of Muggles, including an incident where the Death Eaters burned down an orphanage and killed everyone they saw, including taking the time to kill five-year-olds as they attempted to run away. Voldemort, taking advantage of his mental connection with Harry, would often suppress his emotions until a massacre was complete, then overwhelm Harry with his sadistic glee. When finally confronted by Harry, Voldemort boasted that he didn't need to win the duel because he'd killed everyone Harry knew and loved, with Harry eventually choosing to send his soul back in time to save everyone he cared about. In the new timeline, Voldemort's presence hangs over everything Harry does.
* CrazyIsCool: Luna is ten different types of this, from remarkable insights based on her different perspective, to natural PsychicStatic that makes her mind essentially impossible to read.
* FridgeBrilliance: Snape's AdaptationalVillainy makes a great degree of sense from a narrative standpoint--.
* HypeBacklash: The level of attention and praise it gets in forums as a Fanfic Mastership can colour the expectation of future readers to impossible levels.
