* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: The OVA anime adaptation was originally intended to run for four episodes; however, the two episodes Creator/ProductionIG animated sold poorly in Japan, so no further episodes were made. However, this made it really cheap to license, and its bizarre humor struck a chord with American audiences (also, it was one of the earliest subs made available), which made it a beloved classic amongst them.
%%* GoodBadTranslation: The "Godslayer of Hit Points", which was retained for the subtitles on the DVD version.
* HarsherInHindsight: Damaramu demonstrating his machine gun by blowing a space shuttle out of the sky would probably be seen in bad taste after the Columbia disaster.
* HilariousInHindsight: The premise of the setting, namely applying elements of modern life to a fantasy setting for RuleOfFunny is this, considering that it was literally doing what Franchise/{{Shrek}} did many years later.
* LesYay: In the manga, especially between Mink and Rufa. It's very one-sided on Rufa's part, though.
