* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** "Breakaway" by Big Pig. Funny name for a band, but the song is a most excellent way to start off the movie while we witness [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd9r7LiuGKk the creation of the duo's time-traveling phone booth]].
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxDTeUXehCc version]] of Robbi Robb's "In Time" that plays during [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVXGC896Jdw the Future Council scene]] (which, sadly, [[KeepCirculatingTheTapes was never commercially released]]--not even on the film's official soundtrack) is widely considered to be the highlight of the soundtrack. It's five minutes of pure blissful hair metal that ''perfectly'' encapsulates the beauty of life and hope for a better future, all underscored by a triumphant echoing lead guitar riff. If there really ''was'' a song capable of bringing about world peace, it's not hard to imagine that it would sound a little bit like that.
--->'''Ted:''' Where are we, dude?\
'''Bill:''' I don't know. ''(beat)'' They sure do play excellent music!\
'''Ted:''' ''(nods)'' Most outstanding!
* {{Fanon}}: While the princesses are pretty clearly intended to be sisters, after the release of ''Face the Music'' several fans took advantage of this never being explicitly stated to enable shipping of their daughters Billie and Thea.
* GeniusBonus:
** UsefulNotes/SigmundFreud's corndog-on-a-stick gag.
** When Freud is coming on to some girls, he tells them that they "seem to be suffering from a mild form of hysteria."
** The guys spotting some weakness in Napoleon's plan for the Battle of Waterloo. Made funnier because their tone implies they're ''not'' using historical knowledge; two idiots just noticed a flaw that the emperor didn't.
** When they pick up UsefulNotes/JoanOfArc, Ted briefly mimics the well-known picture of [[SistineSteal God and Adam from]] the Art/SistineChapel's ceiling fresco.
** UsefulNotes/GenghisKhan is shown forcefully making out with a servant girl - why do you think he supposedly has descendants across half of Asia?
** That scene where Napoleon's thrown out of the bowling alley? Instantly familiar to anyone who's seen the 1927 film ''[[Film/Napoleon1927 Napoléon]]''.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** A note from the future warns Bill and Ted to [[Film/TheMatrix duck behind an office desk just as someone stands up and would have spotted them.]]
** Rufus' final line, a desperate "They do get better!" directly to the camera. ''Face the Music'' would later reveal all that's actually known about how the 26th century's perfect society was formed is the names Preston and Logan, and there are several theories about how it actually happened, making this come off as Rufus hearing how bad they are for the first time and struggling to justify his own theory.
** Bill was absolutely right -- Wyld Stallyns never would be a triumphant band without Eddie Van Halen.
** Music/RingoStarr was considered to play Rufus before Creator/GeorgeCarlin was cast. On ''Series/ShiningTimeStation'', Carlin would replace Starr as Mr. Conductor.
** The film's production issues made having Napoleon as a major character into this. The movie was originally produced by DEG, before they suffered financial issues. They wound up selling the rights to Nelson Entertainment, whose logo and name were references to/based on Nelson's Column, a British landmark created in honor of Admiral UsefulNotes/HoratioNelson, who was one of Napoleon's biggest [[ArchEnemy archfoes]] during the Napoleonic Wars.
* OneSceneWonder: "San Dimas High School Football Rules!"
* TheProblemWithLicensedGames:
** This is one of many films that got a Platform/NintendoEntertainmentSystem game courtesy of infamous publishers Creator/LJNToys. This one is considered to be particularly wretched, however, with WebVideo/TheAngryVideoGameNerd (who has played far more of these games than should be considered healthy) even going so far as to consider it the absolute worst game ever released by LJN.
** There was also a PC game that involved several puzzles, fetch quests, and other mini-games as a means of recruiting even more historical figures than in the movie, but it suffered from miserable hit detection and required a "phone book" game manual to get around CopyProtection. While better than the NES game, it can be regarded as SoOkayItsAverage.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece:
** The time machine looks like a pay phone booth, something that would go virtually extinct within 20 years of filming.
** Bill and Ted's brand of hair metal, which would supposedly save future civilization, went out of style only a few years after the film was released.
** Young viewers today are unlikely to have a clue what it means to "wind your watch", as mechanical watches were already being supplanted by digital ones when the film came out. Now, thanks to the ubiquity of smartphones, even ''having'' a watch of any sort is becoming old hat, although smartwatches and fitness trackers have reversed this trend somewhat.
* ValuesDissonance:
** Bill and Ted calling each other "fag" after a hug is quite inappropriate and jarring for modern audiences in an otherwise lighthearted, kid-friendly comedy (especially with the f-bomb coming from the story's ''heroes'').
** Genghis Khan - national hero of Mongolia - is portrayed in a very animalistic manner, as if he were a stereotypical caveman.
