* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPEFBqXtwoM "Making a Difference"]], his WWE theme, is a festive piece which features homages to his earlier, masked persona La Sombra and his time as founder of Los Ingobernables.
* FanNickname: Los Reyes del Aire for his PowerStable with El Sagrado, Volador Jr. and Wrestling/{{Mistico}}'s version of Super Sky Team, after the Wrestling/{{CMLL}} event of the same name.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: If TV Tropes were a pro wrestling website, we might have called it "Germans Love La Sombra". During his stint on CMLL, he scarcely wrestled outside of Latin America and yet consistently ranks high on German sites.
* MemeticMutation:
** His AEW entrance outfit (wearing a white business suit, most certainly as a MythologyGag to Wrestling/LosIngobernables, while also wearing a black mask) led to memes comparing him with Batman villain [[Characters/BatmanRoguesGalleryPart1 Black Mask]] (who also wears business suits and whose disfigured head is reduced to a black skull).
** "Okay, how you know?" [[labelnote:Explanation]]After Andrade mentions that Darby Allin works for Wrestling/{{Sting}}, and Tony Schiavone corrects him by saying that Sting and Darby are friends, the befuddled Andrade asks him this question.[[/labelnote]]
* ReplacementScrappy: La Sombra and Volador junior were among CMLL's most loved and hated luchadors in 2013 but their mask vs mask match at the 80th anniversary show of the promotion was not well received by the fans, as to take place it had to deny them of a mask vs mask match between Ăšltimo Guerrero and the legendary Atlantis, which they had been waiting decades to see.
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: On the beginning of his WWE career, he wasn't able to connect with the crowd, mainly due to his lack of character and genericness (one memorable comment on a website related to his debut was that he was "another flippy guy...but he wears suspenders"). It doesn't help that his push died off incredibly quickly. To combat this, the bookers put him in a tag team with Wrestling/CruiserweightClassic EnsembleDarkhorse Cedric Alexander - only to turn on the man and thus turn heel soon after. Then they gave him [[Wrestling/TheaTrinidad Zelina Vega]] as a manager, which served as a catalyst to his rise, first [[TookALevelInBadass gaining a level in badass]], then beating Wrestling/DrewMcintyre for the NXT Championship and putting on a 5-star classic with Wrestling/JohnnyGargano. Safe to say, Almas is in no danger of going back to the Scrappy status.
* ShockingMoments: He was signed to WWE in early 2016. Upon debuting, while many considered him to be an incredible talent, few would expect him to be in a feud anywhere above the mid-card. Flash-foward to summer 2017 and he had associated himself with Zelina Vega, a well-respected veteran with pretty great mic skills, who would eventually become his manager. Though Almas' character had largely improved, absolutely ''no one'' expected him to become NXT Champion at ''[=TakeOver: WarGames=]''. Even the commentators seemed legitimately shocked that he had won.
* ToughActToFollow: His match against Wrestling/JohnnyGargano at ''NXT [=TakeOver=]: Philadelphia'', which says a lot about the quality of wrestling in NXT. The build-up which involves Johnny's wife, Candice [=LeRae=], set up the stage for a grandiose encounter between the two. Almas and Gargano made their match a wrestling clinic, leaving many fans in awe, and [[Wrestling/TheWrestlingObserverNewsletter Dave Meltzer]] gave his first 5-star rating for an NXT match. This, however, lasted all of three months, but got the accolade of finishing the 5-star match drought.
* XPacHeat: As La Sombra, he got it after unmasking Volador Jr. at the 80th anniversary, mostly because it was the result of the two rivals losing a Relevos Suicidas to two much more storied rivals, Ultimo Guerrero and Atlantis. Sombra was the tecnico going into the match but there was some role reversal afterwards.
