5	An anthropomorphic B-29 Superfortress named John is struggling to find work: Despite being a decorated veteran of "[[UsefulNotes/WorldWarII the War]]", the military and civil aviation industries are more interested in the revolutionary new jet-engined aircraft than an "old" propeller plane like himself. His wife Mary (a Douglas DC-3) reveals that she's expecting a child, but John's delight turns to bitterness when the stork delivers a little baby boy jet. Despite his tiny engine, little Junior immediately begins outperforming his dad and further inflames John's resentment.

7	One day John (still unemployed and with "another propeller to feed") learns of an upcoming around-the-world race, the winner of which will receive a fat government contract.
