''Metro PD: Close to You'' is a RomanceGame VisualNovel by Creator/VoltageInc for iOS and Android devices, in which the player takes the role of a rookie detective in the Tokyo police department. Stationed at the sleepy West Arai precinct, she rarely deals with anything more dangerous than the occasional Peeping Tom... at least, until she receives a sudden and unexpected transfer to the Special Investigations 2nd Unit, an unorthodox but elite group of case-closers working the city's highest-priority cases.

Partnered with one of these detectives, she struggles to pull her weight and keep up with the 2nd Unit's much faster pace and risky investigations. As they work cases and face danger together, they inevitably grow closer than simple partnership, and both of them must try to sort out their feelings ''and'' their case before the distraction ends up costing someone their lives.

----
!!''Metro PD: Close to You'' provides examples of the following tropes:

* AfraidOfBlood: Rookie detective Ishibashi has this problem on Nomura's main route. He deals with messy crime scenes by telling himself that he's looking at some other, benign red substance. [[spoiler:At the end of the route, the protagonist attempts to talk Ishibashi out of shooting her by asking if he's over his fear yet.]]
* AloneWithThePsycho: The protagonist has such a moment during Nomura's route, when she realizes that [[spoiler:Ishibashi is one of the vigilantes]].
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: The protagonist delivers one near the end of Kirisawa's route [[spoiler:when she thinks that he's dying from a gunshot]]. It leads to more than a little embarrassment on her part when she realizes that not only is [[spoiler:Kirisawa fine (and fully conscious)]], the entire rest of the 2nd Unit has witnessed the entire performance.
* ArtisticLicenseMedicine: Hanai's response to the TapOnTheHead the protagonist takes in his epilogue? Take her home, offer her alcohol, then leave her unsupervised while he goes back to work.
* {{Balloonacy}}: The climax of Tennoji's route involves a bomb attached to a balloon. The balloon in question proves to have enough lift to keep a fully-grown man afloat, at least temporarily.
* BenevolentBoss:
** Hiroshi Kirisawa, the leader of 2nd Unit, encourages his detectives to pursue their investigations as they see fit and is always ready to back them up, even if it means taking responsibility for their bending rules he didn't tell them to bend.
** Nomura is the original founder of 2nd Unit and spends considerable time and effort behind the scenes making sure The Misfits are free and clear to do their jobs. Whenever 2nd Unit's shenanigans get them into too much trouble for even Kirisawa to handle, Nomura can usually be depended upon to deal with the office politics on their behalf.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Dr. Mizuno in Himuro's first sequel is willing to go so far as to [[spoiler:falsify a death certificate and confess to a murder he didn't commit]] for the sake of his younger sister Saki.
* BigEater: A more realistic version of the trope, but the guys of 2nd Unit never cease to be surprised by the amount of food the MC manages to consume in a sitting, to the point that they get suspicious if not outright worried if she fails to display her usual appetite. On Kirisawa's route, after she's called in on her day off for an operation, the guys observe that she's not eating as much as usual and speculate that she must have been out on a date. [[spoiler:They're right.]]
* BlastingItOutOfTheirHands: Nomura saves the protagonist by shooting the gun out of [[spoiler:Ishibashi]]'s hand during his main route. It's far from harmless, however; the narration notes that the recipient's hand is badly bleeding afterward.
* BlindWithoutEm: Kimura. On his route, he accidentally walks in on the protagonist while she's changing, but reassures her that since he had his glasses off he didn't see anything. [[spoiler:He's actually a subversion; the glasses are purely cosmetic.]]
* BrickJoke: In Kimura's main route, the protagonist overhears Tennoji telling Kimura he plans to ask her out, and is briefly very flustered until Tennoji proudly explains to her [[OperationJealousy his actual intentions]]. After that, she mostly forgets about it in favor of everything else that's going on... until the end of Kimura's sequel, when she belatedly realizes that Kimura ''still'' thinks Tennoji is in love with her.
* BulletproofVest: On Kirisawa's route, the protagonist [[spoiler:completely forgets that the whole team, herself and Kirisawa included, are wearing protective vests during the raid to rescue Sakai from the mafia, resulting in some slightly embarrassing dramatics when Kirisawa takes a bullet in his until the rest of the team reminds her]].
* BusmansHoliday: In Tennoji's sequel, after closing the case they came to New York for, they have a few days to vacation while the paperwork is being sorted out... and spend most of it working to stop a murder.
* CallBack: The end of Kimura's route calls back to a scene near the beginning; Kimura presents the protagonist with the cheese souffle that they were on their way to get before they got called in to a crime scene, and admits that he wanted to get her the "cute earrings" she complained about missing the chance to buy, but didn't know what they looked like or where to find them.
* ChainedHeat: The protagonist and Kyobashi are briefly handcuffed together by a suspect during Kyobashi's epilogue.
* ChivalrousPervert:
** Nomura is a renowned skirt-chaser with a firm policy of never getting more involved than a one-night stand. He's perpetually going on group dates and flirts with the protagonist at every opportunity. [[spoiler:In actuality, his flirtiness is mostly an act, group dates are a great way to monitor how other members of the force behave while off the clock, and his refusal to commit to a relationship is because he knows that work keeps him far too busy to devote the amount of time and attention that a healthy relationship needs.]]
** Likewise, the most frequent terms used to describe Kyobashi are "pervert" and "sadist" and he's the first to make an off-color comment in any given situation, but like everyone else in 2nd Unit he's a good man and an excellent cop, he just has some... unusual ideas when it comes to relationships.
* ClearMyName:
** In Kyobashi's route, Kyobashi is implicated in a number of hacking incidents to the point that he's placed on house arrest while the rest of the unit investigates. He and the protagonist end up striking out on their own halfway through the route to try to catch the real perpetrator.
** On Kimura's main route, circumstantial evidence in a string of murders starts to point to the protagonist and 1st Unit latches onto her as their primary suspect, badgering her to confess in daily interrogations while 2nd Unit and Kimura work around the clock to exonerate her and catch the real killer.
* CopKiller: The case in Kirisawa's "Armed & Engaged" sequel deals with a murderer targeting police.
* TheCoroner: Medical examiner Dr. Masashi Himuro, a late addition to the game who occasionally works with 2nd Unit when a judicial autopsy is required related to one of their cases.
* TheCoronerDothProtestTooMuch: In Himuro's route both he and the investigating officers find themselves under heavy pressure from above to declare a suspicious death a suicide and close the case. A similar situation six years prior has informed a lot of Himuro's attitude toward his work, and in both cases since he's the medical examiner responsible for the autopsy he's the one who gets blamed.
* DespairEventHorizon: Kirisawa approaches this in the sequel but doesn't cross it.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: In some Normal Endings, such as Kyobashi's, after the case of the route is closed the guy gently makes it clear to the protagonist that they're just not going to work as a couple and will have to remain colleagues and platonic friends.
* DirtyCop: The case in Kirisawa's route gets complicated when they start turning up evidence suggesting that the Chief of the Detective Bureau himself may be in some way involved with the drug ring that they're investigating. [[spoiler:He's working with the mafia, and has been for a long time, including acting as a mole back when he served under the command of Kirisawa's father.]]
* DueToTheDead: On Himuro's route, the protagonist is given some insight into Himuro's character when Dr. Sakamaki explains to her how Himuro always takes the time to dress corpses in yukata after autopsy before releasing them to their family, rather than presenting them naked in a body bag with the autopsy incisions and other damage on full display.
* EasyAmnesia: During Kirisawa's New York sequel, the protagonist loses all memory of [[spoiler:Kirisawa and her relationship with him]] thanks to the combination of a blow to the head and the trauma of [[spoiler:seeing Kirisawa shot right in front of her and thinking he's been killed]]. Discussing her memory loss, the guys wonder over how specifically targeted it is, to which NYC cop Kate Howard points out that most cases of amnesia seem unusually specific - you never hear about someone with amnesia so complete that they forget basic facts like, for example, what a bathroom is.
* FairCop: Unsurprisingly, given that it's a romance game, everyone in the 2nd Unit is smoking hot.
* FairPlayWhodunnit: Hanai's main route provides the audience with all of the relevant facts necessary to solve the mystery... which, taken in combination with the LawOfConservationOfDetail, means the reader will probably have it figured out well before any of the detectives do.
* FakeOutMakeOut:
** During Hanai's route, he and the protagonist catch a lurker who's been taking pictures of couples making out in a local park. They accomplish this by sitting on a park bench and pretending to be a couple, complete with a real kiss to lure him into taking photos before they pounce and nab him with the evidence right there on his camera.
** On Kirisawa's route, Kirisawa and the protagonist perform a textbook fake make-out to avoid being noticed by [[spoiler:Sakai]] during their stakeout of one of the drug ring's possible areas of activity.
** Tennoji and the protagonist do the same on Tennoji's route to avoid being noticed while shadowing a suspect.
* FallGuy: During his route, Hanai relates to the protagonist how, prior to the events of the VN, he arrested a man for a series of murders only to become convinced that he was innocent and had been set up to take the fall for someone else. He was not able to prove it or find the real culprit, and as of his epilogue the scapegoat is still in prison.
* AFatherToHisMen: Kirisawa is the driving force behind the 2nd Unit and the reason it's able to operate as well as it does despite the often unique personalities of its members. He's charismatic, dependable, and looks after his guys almost as much off the job as he does on. For just one example: since most of the members of the unit are bachelors who tend to live on fast food, Kirisawa makes a regular practice of having the whole team over to his place for a home-cooked meal.
* TheFettered: The protagonist, at least on Nomura's route. She acknowledges that the system is broken, and that things are never quite as clear-cut as "good and evil". [[spoiler:She also admits that the corrupt cops who have been murdering criminals by proxy have probably made Tokyo a safer place. But when offered the chance to go vigilante herself, she refuses on the grounds that doing so would be betraying the public trust: Officers of the law have to be held to a higher moral standard than the people they protect.]]
* FieryRedhead: Red-haired Tennoji has the loudest mouth and the shortest fuse of anyone in 2nd Unit.
* FormerChildStar: [[spoiler:Ryohei Kimura the forensic analyst]] was once Ryohei Nikaido, award-winning child actor turned teen heartthrob. He quit acting due to a scandal involving the death of a young actress.
* FormerTeenRebel: Kirisawa led a biker gang in his youth before he joined the police force. The other guys of the 2nd Unit enjoy telling stories about his exploits almost as much as the current members of his former gang do, in both cases rather to Kirisawa's embarrassment.
* GiftedlyBad: When the 2nd Unit goes out for karaoke, the other guys refuse to let Hanai anywhere near the microphone - for all his enthusiasm and his conviction that he's an excellent singer, it turns out that he's completely tone-deaf.
* TheGlassesGottaGo: When the protagonist accidentally bumps into Kimura while he's not wearing his coke-bottle NerdGlasses, he looks so different - and so attractive - that she almost doesn't recognize him, and thinks to herself that it's a waste for him to wear them all the time. [[spoiler:He doesn't need them to see, so once they're dating he usually takes them off when he and the protagonist are alone together.]]
* GotMeDoingIt: Tennoji's speech patterns are insidious, as the protagonist learns to her dismay.
* GPSEvidence: In Kimura's route, pollen from a specific rare breed of hibiscus is found among the trace evidence at a murder scene, leading the protagonist and Kimura to a particular island where the flower is grown.
* HeManWomanHater: Himuro hates women and makes no bones about telling the protagonist to stay away from him and keep her mouth shut in his presence. [[spoiler:His wealthy father had a lot of mistresses when Himuro was a child, more than a few of whom tried to use young Himuro as an in. When the one among them he actually liked and trusted turned out to have been involved in a scheme to have Himuro kidnapped for ransom, his opinion of women was completely shattered.]]
* HospitalHottie: Well ''hello there,'' Dr. Himuro.
* IfYouEverDoAnythingToHurtHer: At the end of his main route, Nomura gets a friendly reminder from Kirisawa that the men of 2nd Unit will be out for his blood if he ever makes the protagonist cry.
* IHaveThisFriend: In Kirisawa's NY Case Files sequel, Kyobashi has promised Kirisawa not to tell the protagonist the truth about their relationship, but realizes that keeping it from her is making her and Kirisawa suffer needlessly and feels partly responsible for the incident which caused her to lose her memory. So he resorts to speaking in thoroughly transparent, suspiciously specific "generalizations" to get around his promise not to tell.
* InnerMonologueConversation:
** By Kirisawa's sequel, he and the protagonist are close enough that they can "talk" by reading each others' expressions. The other members of 2nd Unit find it mildly creepy.
** Tennoji and the protagonist become capable of entirely nonverbal conversations during his initial route, an ability which serves them very well during the jewelry store robbery in his epilogue.
* ItsPersonal: A frequent hazard of 2nd Unit's cases, usually due to the perps targeting investigators or their loved ones directly, or trying to frame them. The former occurs in Hanai and Kirisawa's main routes and both of Kirisawa's sequels, while the latter occurs in both Kyobashi's and Kimura's main routes, just for starters.
* JurisdictionFriction: 1st Unit and 2nd Unit frequently compete over cases, despite all being members of the same department. On 2nd Unit's part, the friction comes mostly from 1st Unit's tendency to show up and shut them out of an investigation only to badly mishandle it by latching onto the first convenient solution that comes to mind and ignoring any evidence or avenues of investigation that don't fit their assumptions.
* JustBetweenYouAndMe: The main villain of Tennoji's route can't resist the temptation to explain his plan to the protagonist while he has her tied up and at his mercy, waving away his mooks' concerns with the argument that it doesn't matter since they're just going to kill her anyway. Needless to say, it doesn't work out the way he'd planned. Later, when the protagonist relates what she heard to the task force assembled for the case, one of the members of 1st Unit questions how reliable the information is and why the villain would admit it all in front of her; the protagonist speculates, and [[TheProfiler Hanai]] agrees, that he was simply too arrogant to resist the chance to gloat.
* KillerCop: The case in [[spoiler:Nomura's main route]] involves a group of vigilantes within the police force who have been murdering repeat offenders.
* KinkyCuffs: After being handcuffed by a perp in his epilogue, Kyobashi complains that the handcuffs have scraped his wrist and that a "professional" could handcuff someone without doing them injury. He demonstrates at the end of the epilogue when he brings out the cuffs to prove to the protagonist that she can trust him.
* LadykillerInLove: Kyobashi is an inveterate skirt-chaser with a girlfriend for every day of the week (except Wednesday, who recently broke up with him). Falling for the protagonist during his route throws a wrench into his usual approach.
* LapPillow: Tennoji falls asleep on the protagonist's lap following an all-nighter. In his Happy Ending, he returns the favor.
* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain: In Kirisawa's route, [[spoiler:Tennoji experiences this when having to don a pink bunny suit to get close to the suspect at an amusement park.]] However, the members of 2nd unit have no problems bringing it up to torment him later.
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: Tennoji and the protagonist fall into this dynamic by the end of their first outing together as partners. The rest of the 2nd Unit tracks the development of their relationship through the tone of their bickering, and use the exact phrase to describe them in Tennoji's sequel.
* LimitedWardrobe: {{Discussed}} in the "2nd Unit Breaks the Code" side story, where the protagonist realises that everyone (herself included) always wear the same thing to work. Cue the guys all telling the story involved behind some part of their outfit, such as Asano's pendant.
* MartialMedic: Himuro's work may deal with dead bodies rather than living patients, but he ''is'' a skilled doctor and trained in aikido. Kirisawa notes that he's probably capable of matching the protagonist, who is trained in judo; this proves to be, if anything, an understatement of Himuro's skills.
* MemeticBadass: In-universe on Nomura's route, the protagonist has somehow acquired a reputation as "the woman of steel who runs 2nd Unit from the shadows."
* MistakenForGay: Due to the [[VitriolicBestBuds tone of their relationship]], this happens quite frequently to Kirisawa and Nomura. Nomura thinks it's hilarious and occasionally plays along for a laugh, while Kirisawa is notoriously clueless about ''anything'' related to romance and is usually the last to catch on. One Sweet Cafe short story of questionable canonicity plays it to the hilt.
* MomentKiller:
** Lampshaded when Tennoji declares his intention to cockblock Kirisawa and the protagonist in Kirisawa's route - although since at that point in the route there's not much going on between them, he doesn't actually do it.
** In Kirisawa's Happy Ending they ''do'' get an intimate moment interrupted by the arrival of a couple of curious nurses (probably just as well, given that [[spoiler:Kirisawa has a broken rib]]).
* NaiveNewcomer: The protagonist plays this role in some of the earliest routes, thanks to being a transfer from a small precinct with little real experience in the kind of detective work done by 2nd Unit. It's played the hardest in Hanai's main route, the first route released; other routes released later downplay or drop it altogether and pick up several months after the protagonist's transfer, by which point she's become more seasoned as an investigator.
* NeverBeHurtAgain: Kimura avoids caring about anyone or anything in order to avoid the pain of losing something he cares about.
* NeverSuicide: Especially in Himuro's route, in which two different cases of possible suicide six years apart turn out to be, you guessed it, not suicides.
* NowOrNeverKiss: Kirisawa plants one on the protagonist, along with a LoveConfession, just before they begin the climactic raid of his route.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Nobody accuses him of being stupid, but Nomura comes across as a carefree womanizer who only sees his work with the police as a paycheck and doesn't take anything very seriously. This causes a lot of people to underestimate him, not realizing that in fact he's Metro PD's biggest workaholic.
* ObliviousToLove: Kirisawa is notoriously clueless regarding matters of romance, and Nomura and the rest of 2nd Unit enjoy teasing him about it. His reputation is so firmly entrenched that, despite the protagonist making a LoveConfession right in front of all of them during Kirisawa's main route, the guys assume that her feelings are one-sided and cheerfully crack wise about her "hopeless crush" for the next two routes until their relationship finally comes out into the open in Kirisawa's "Armed & Engaged" sequel.
* OpaqueNerdGlasses: Worn by crime scene investigator Kimura. [[spoiler:His eyesight is fine; the glasses are to keep people from being able to easily read his expression, and also help keep him from being recognized as Ryohei Nikaido.]]
* OperationJealousy: Via third party on Kimura's route. Tennoji, deciding that Kimura and the protagonist are taking far too long to make any progress, takes it upon himself to help out - by declaring to Kimura that ''he'' is interested in the protagonist and plans to ask her out if Kimura doesn't.
* PerpSweating: Interrogations occur during a number of cases, with a variety of techniques used depending on the situation and the investigator. Tennoji in particular plays the role of RabidCop with great relish, and he and Kirisawa are widely regarded as the scariest interrogators to face, while Kyobashi is occasionally called on to sweet-talk female suspects and witnesses.
** In Kimura's route, the protagonist gets fed up with watching 1st Unit's mishandling of the interrogation and manages to convince them to let her step in, enabling her to play the reasonable, sympathetic {{Good Cop|BadCop}} and get the suspect to open up to her.
** Later in the same route, the protagonist herself ends up interrogated repeatedly for several days running by 1st Unit, whose idea of an interrogation is to simply gang up on her and continuously demand that she confess. Even though she's innocent and has every faith that 2nd Unit and Kimura will find the true culprit, the experience is so wearing that at one point she briefly thinks about confessing just to make it stop. She snaps out of it immediately, however.
* PickyEater: Kyobashi hates vegetables in general, especially pumpkin. The protagonist is dismayed to discover that he mostly seems to subsist on instant cup noodles when not eating out.
* TheProfiler:
** Hanai's particular talent, although it's more of a side skill than his main role in the unit and - much as in real life - is only occasionally helpful.
** Kyobashi has also studied criminal psychology, and does a thoroughly accurate SherlockScan on the protagonist in the first chapter of his route. It comes in handy when he's called upon to act as a negotiator, which is his primary specialty within 2nd Unit.
* PulledFromYourDayOff:
** In Kirisawa's route, he and the protagonist are called in from their day off for a case, and have to scramble to keep the other guys from realizing that they were out on a date together.
** On Kimura's route, Kyobashi and several of the other guys conspire to invoke the trope, calling the protagonist and Kimura to a non-existent crime scene on their day off in order to set them up together. Then an actual case comes up and they end up called in to work for real.
** In Tennoji's epilogue, he and the protagonist get a rare day off together... and end up busting a jewelry store theft purely by virtue of happening to be in the store when it's held up. Tennoji is more than a little miffed that they ended up spending their time off together working.
* RedHerring:
** In Tennoji's sequel, the detectives lose valuable time in their efforts to prevent a murder because the would-be perpetrator, after learning that they're on his trail, intentionally makes a misleading Twitter post with a false location stamp. When the protagonist realizes what happened, she describes it by name as a red herring.
** Security footage in Kyobashi's route apparently showing the perpetrator sneaking into his targets' server rooms turns out to be misdirection: [[spoiler:the servers were hacked remotely from another location and the perp simply took advantage of his resemblance to Kyobashi to try and frame him]].
** The evidence implicating the protagonist in the murders in Kimura's route turns out to be a red herring planted by [[spoiler:the person who hired the killer]] in order to divert the police investigation away from the truth. [[spoiler:In this case, the person responsible assumes that the protagonist will inevitably be exonerated, and is simply trying to stall for time.]]
* RevealingCoverup: In Himuro's route, had [[spoiler:Yanagie not taken off his ring before meeting the detectives]], the protagonist would probably never have paid any attention to it, let alone find it significant enough to make note of it in her report. Because she notices [[spoiler:the mark the ring left on his finger]], and is curious enough to [[spoiler:ask the victim's grandson and in doing so find out that his wedding ring was custom-made]], she and Himuro are later able to connect [[spoiler:the missing ring to an unexplained mark on the victim's neck and thus connect Yanagie to the murder]].
* {{Revenge}}:
** In Kirisawa's sequel, the villain's motivation is rooted in [[spoiler:the death of his wife from terminal illness]], which he blames on [[spoiler:the pharmaceutical company that he worked for after his theft of research from a competitor caused his work on a cure to be set back]].
** In Tennoji's sequel, he and the protagonist race to stop an old friend of Tennoji's before he poisons a man in vengeance for the man's role in the suicide of the woman he loved.
** The murderer in Himuro's sequel kills to avenge [[spoiler:the murder of her mother thirteen years before]].
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: The perp in Hanai's route is on one, targeting people close to Hanai in revenge for [[spoiler:his arrest of her lover]].
* RomanticRunnerUp: There are implications during Kyobashi's main route that Kirisawa has more than purely professional feelings for the protagonist, but he never goes as far as making a direct overture.
* ShipperOnDeck: Early in Kimura's route, Kyobashi - aided and abetted by several of the other 2nd Unit guys - fixes the protagonist and Kimura up on a date by calling them both out to a non-existent crime scene. Later in the same route, Tennoji takes [[OperationJealousy a more direct approach]] in an attempt to motivate Kimura to make a move.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: A favourite pastime for 2nd Unit and their close associates (like Nomura and Kimura). The protagonist eventually joins in with great vigour.
* TheSquadette: As the only female member of 2nd Unit, the protagonist fills this role.
* SweetTooth: Himuro loves chocolate enough to stand in line in a crowd of women in order to buy gourmet sweets from a famous chocolatier.
* TakingTheBullet:
** In his "Armed & Engaged" sequel, this is how [[spoiler:Hanai]] saves [[spoiler:Kirisawa]] from being stabbed.
** In Himuro's first sequel, [[spoiler:Himuro]] takes a knife for [[spoiler:the protagonist.]]
* TapOnTheHead:
** In Hanai's epilogue, the protagonist [[spoiler:gets clocked upside the head with a wrench by an escaped suspect.]] It knocks her out for a bit, but has no lasting effects more serious than a headache.
** In Dr. Himuro's route, the protagonist is knocked out with a blow to the head. She spends the night in the hospital - [[spoiler:more due to having taken a header out of a helicopter into the ocean than because of the previous knock]] - but feels no lasting effects. It happens ''again'' in the epilogue; this time toughing it out after a brief hospital visit leads to her nearly passing out afterwards, but this is suggested to be as much emotional strain as due to the physical injury.
* TrueCompanions: 2nd Unit are a close-knit group with unshakable faith in one another. When any one member of the unit is in trouble, they can count on the rest of the team to swing into action to help them out of it, and threatening or mistreating a member of the unit is a fast track to having all of them on your case.
* UnderwaterKiss: The "breath of air" version occurs in a CG scene during Tennoji's route.
* VitriolicBestBuds:
** Kirisawa and Nomura have known each other for years, and Kirisawa was recruited by Nomura when he formed 2nd Unit. Their relationship is founded on rapid-fire bickering and Nomura picking on his "little Hiroshi". The casual tone of their relationship carries over into the workplace, which occasionally gets Kirisawa into hot water with the traditionalists in the department.
** Himuro attended middle school with Nomura and Kirisawa. He flatly denies being friends with either of them, ''especially'' not Nomura, who is not in any way deterred from treating him much the same way he treats Kirisawa.
* WackyMarriageProposal: In the Happy Ending of Tennoji's sequel, he takes the protagonist to a baseball game at Yankee Stadium, and - inspired by a Time's Square marriage proposal they happened to witness earlier in the route - arranges for a romantic message to the protagonist to appear on the Jumbotron. He didn't exactly ''intend'' for it to be an official proposal, but the effect is the same, and the rest of the onlooking spectators are more than happy to interpret the protagonist's reaction as a "yes."
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: Kirisawa has this in his sequel. [[spoiler:Kirisawa's poised to go down the low road with the protagonist's life in danger. She arrives on the scene to stop him from doing so.]]
* WireDilemma:
** The climax of Kyobashi's route involves a bomb on a subway train. With no way to tell which is the correct one, Kyobashi and the protagonist must decide whether to cut the red or the blue wire. [[spoiler:The protagonist is appalled when Kyobashi chooses red based on the color of her underwear, but it turns out to be the correct choice.]]
** Kirisawa gets one in his New York sequel. He's walked through most of the process over the phone by a member of the bomb disposal squad, but when the device turns out to have two wires where the expert was expecting one, he ends up having to make his best educated guess.
