''Cry of Fear: The Hole'' is one of 8 custom campaigns included in the Steam version of ''VideoGame/CryOfFear'', which was released on April 25, 2013.

The story follows Simon from the original ''Cry of Fear'',[[note]]Note that all of the custom campaigns are non-canon[[/note]] who jumps through a door to escape a moving train and ends up in a series of dark maintenance tunnels. Things are no better on the surface; monsters haunt the now silent town, a gigantic [[TitleDrop hole]] delves into the abyss, and he just can't shake the urge to go into it...

----
!! Cry of Fear: The Hole contains examples of:
* AbandonedArea:
** The city you end up in has no people left in it.
** The [[spoiler:mine tunnels also count. There are notes left behind by its former occupants, who are nowhere in sight.]]
* AndIMustScream: [[spoiler:The first ending. Simon killed himself and the dark, monster-infested Hole he's now in is his own personal Hell.]]
* BeneathTheEarth: The Hole and the mine tunnels it consists of.
* BittersweetEnding: Ending 2, the canonical good ending, reveals Simon is still depressed, but his support from Dr. Purnell, Sophie and his mother keep him going.
* BlackBugRoom: [[spoiler:Considering that this trope explains the events of ''Cry of Fear'', it may also play a part in creating the nightmares of this campaign]].
* BodyHorror: It's ''Cry of Fear'', so expect plenty. The arguably worst example is a zombie missing the entire top half of it's head, leaving only the lower jaw and neck.
* BuriedAlive: Once you go into the Hole, there's no coming back out.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler:The third ending. Simon's body is eventually recovered from the Hole, and he's found to have been beaten to death with a hammer.]]
* CuriosityKilledTheCast: [[spoiler:Simon feels drawn to the Hole. He never makes it out alive in endings 1 and 3.]]
* DeadToBeginWith: [[spoiler:In the first ending, Simon is already dead and the Hole is his hell.]]
* DownerEnding: Endings 1 and 3.
** Ending 1 reveals that Simon committed suicide and the hole is his {{Hell}}.
** Ending 3 reveals Simon was beaten to death by a masked mad man.
* EldritchLocation: The titular hole is a horrific abomination that holds monsters and strange architecture.
* EverythingIsTryingToKillYou: Again, it's ''Cry of Fear''. There is nothing in the game that ''isn't'' trying to kill you.
* MalevolentMaskedMen: [[spoiler:The final boss of the first ending, and Simon’s killer in the third. A man with a bag-mask over his head, who taunts you throughout the end.]]
* MonstrousHumanoid: All the monsters in the game are humanoid to some degree, such as the [[http://cry-of-fear.wikia.com/wiki/Faster Fasters]] and [[http://cry-of-fear.wikia.com/wiki/Slower Slowers]].
* MurderousMannequin: The [[http://cry-of-fear.wikia.com/wiki/Faceless Faceless]] present in the tunnels. They first show up when you take the valve to open the gate blocking your way forward. The moment you touch it, they begin to swarm you.
* [[spoiler: {{Prequel}}: The second ending, and arguably the good ending: Real Simon writes in his book, stating how while still having confidence in himself thanks to his mother and Sophie, he struggles with his depression and suicidal thoughts, lamenting on Dr. Purnell's suggestion of the book isn't working. Considering what the book [[VideoGame/CryOfFear lead to]]...]]
* NothingIsScarier: Many of the tunnels have absolutely nothing in them. They'll still set you on edge.
* SurrealHorror: The game as a whole is rife with it, and this custom campaign is no exception. Of special note is the first hallway you go into to escape from the streets. It's a long, brightly lit room, that turns to a bloodsoaked nightmare halfway through. Then you hear the roaring of a chainsaw...
* UnexpectedlyAbandoned: What the town is. Barring the monsters, of course.
