''Gravity Rush 2'' (''Gravity Daze 2'' in Japan) is an ActionRPG Main/WideOpenSandbox video game developed by Creator/SIEJapanStudio and directed by Keiichiro Toyama (creator of ''Franchise/SilentHill'' and ''[[VideoGame/SirenGames Siren]]''). A sequel to the [[VideoGame/GravityRush critically-acclaimed 2012 Vita game]], it was released for the Platform/PlayStation4 in January 2017.[[labelnote:*]]Australia and Europe on January 18; Japan on January 19; and North American and the United Kingdom on January 20.[[/labelnote]]

The game continues the story of [[TheHero Kat,]] [[AmnesiacHero the cheerfully amnesiac]] [[GravityMaster gravity-shifting]] heroine from the first game, in a new city with a very distinct and different culture, after being stranded in a nomad settlement due to being caught up in the pull of a massive gravity storm. Joining her for her adventures are Syd, [[BrilliantButLazy her underachieving]] [[FriendOnTheForce police friend]], and Raven, [[TheRival the rival shifter from the first game,]] [[TrueCompanions now a close ally,]] as well as a cast of new characters from this unexplored sky. As she searches for a way back home to Hekseville, she meanwhile has to deal with threats to the peaceful lives of her friends, both from the [[EldritchAbomination Nevi,]] which ever assail the lives of everyone, and from [[CorruptBureaucrat the corruption that mires]] [[AristocratsAreEvil the ruling class]] of [[CityOfAdventure the city of Jirga Para Lhao.]] It also features [[TheReveal the answers to several mysteries]] that [[LeftHanging remained unsolved]] in the first game, most prominently being [[IAmWho the true identity of just who Kat is]] and what her role is in the grand scheme of things.

An [[https://youtu.be/tFeXtu-3u78 anime]] created by Studio Khara, called ''Gravity Rush Overture'', was released late 2016. It tells the [[{{Interquel}} story that takes place between]] ''Gravity Rush'' and ''Gravity Rush 2''.

Just like the original, ''Gravity Rush 2'' received critical acclaim, with most critics agreeing that it's even better than/just like the original.

Now has a [[Characters/GravityRush2 character sheet]].
----
!!This game displays examples of:
* AChildShallLeadThem: The latest ruler of [[spoiler:the city of Eto]] is just a little kid.
** [[spoiler:According to the people of Eto this is not unusual. Rulers are apparently chosen by the gods, and Kat/Alua was the first one who was fully-grown when she was chosen.]]
* AffablyEvil: [[spoiler:Brahman. He's a very kindly, patient and forgiving ReasonableAuthorityFigure who wants to freeze time so he can be with his daughter again.]]
* AfterActionHealingDrama: Kat is beaten up so badly during her first fight with Night Gale that she gets knocked out cold. The next scene shows her unconscious with Syd by her bedside, who comments to Cecie and Lisa that the ordeal had given her a nasty concussion.
* ArtificialBrilliance: Several examples.
** If Raven is an AI ally, starting a Gravity Kick within proximity will cause Raven to join Kat for a CombinationAttack. After obtaining [[MightyGlacier Jupiter Style]] and watching the relevant tutorial, if you charge up a Surge Kick whenever Raven isn't preoccupied with something else, she will zoom to your side and begin charging up her ''own'' (weaker) version of the Surge Kick for a double dose of explosive brutality. And if you use the [[SpectacularSpinning Spiraling Claw]], Raven will join in with her own to amp the damage of the attack.
** Whenever you have AI allies (more than just Raven), they will often target the same enemy you are attacking in order to reduce their numbers faster. This is especially helpful when you're getting mobbed, as this game entirely averts MookChivalry. And in select cases, they will instead spread out and take on multiple targets ([[spoiler:specially prominent in the Mutated Kali battle]]). AI Allies also tend to be ''quite'' efficient at dealing with mobile targets (case in point, it is entirely possible for Raven to take out [[spoiler:the Lost City]] all by herself while the player is struggling with the battle conditions).
** If a boss enemy has a grab attack, chances are your ally will jump in to interrupt them before they can throw you. This is even a scripted event during the fight with [[spoiler:Mutated Kali]].
** Enemy example: The DualBoss with [[spoiler:Kali and Durga]] automatically change fighting styles on the fly to account for whether the former is grounded or up in the air.
* AlternateWorldMap: [[spoiler: Only the first 2 parts of the game takes place in Jirga Para Lhao. The final part takes place in Hekseville. After completing the Hekseville chapter, the two world maps basically fuse by existing side by side]].
* AmbiguouslyHuman: The Angels. Winged and endowed with superhuman abilities, they are actually more extraordinary than Kat and Raven by virtue of not needing another character to supply them with their powers. [[spoiler:Kali's dialogue implies this transformation is due to an "angel seed" given to them by Brahman, and she soon proves that [[BodyHorror they can quite easily]] [[OneWingedAngel leave the "human" part out]] if they ''really'' want to.]]
** [[spoiler:The people of Eto, by the admission of a Senator, are rather long-lived. Although we only see a handful of individuals, the same Senator, who looks around his 60s, said he was around as a boy for Queen Alua to bounce on her knee. ''One hundred years ago''.]]
** [[spoiler:Syd for much of the second game. After his death on the Bismalia you only ever see him possessing machines until the final battle where he is revived by Bit. First the buggy Grigo that saves Kat, then as a slightly altered-looking Alias, who turns out to have been a robot.]]
* AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent: The first half of the fight against [[spoiler:Elektricitie]] and the PlayableEpilogue have you play as Raven.
** Before that, the game pulls this on you by placing you in control of a random, faceless miner at the start of the game. [[spoiler:Then subverted when said miner turns out to be a [[BroughtDownToBadass depowered Kat.]]]]
* AndYourRewardIsClothes: A number of side quests involve Kat having to put on a new outfit. Completing the quest in question allows her to don it anytime. She can also win new duds by getting enough Dusty Tokens.
* ApeShallNeverKillApe: Averted, unlike the first game; this game is ''not'' shy about showing the lengths the Council, their lackeys and beneficiaries will go for their own gain, up to and including ''[[MurderIsTheBestSolution mass murder]]'' of people occupying space they want to use. There are plenty of battles against human foes and their vehicles, and while the standing rule seems to be the NonLethalKO, [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential nothing is stopping you from picking soldiers up with a Stasis Field]] and throwing them into the abyss.
* ArtShift: There's a very stark contrast between the aesthetics of Jirga Para Lhao and [[spoiler:Hekseville]]. The former is bright, colorful, more modern-looking, and has more natural lighting (save for Lei Elgona, which is darker and more dismal). Meanwhile, the latter is a lot more old timey in looks and [[spoiler:maintains the previous game's ColorWash effect for each of the districts.]]
* BaitAndSwitch: One of the side missions involves Kat delivering a bunch of cargo for Vogo whose contents are classified. The reactions from the receivers lead Kat (and the player) to believe that they're smuggling illegal drugs, and when Raven finds Kat and demands the boxes, even going so far as to ''attack'' Kat for the boxes. Kat thinks Raven has an addiction problem. They way [[BrutalHonesty Raven rather bluntly confirms it]] doesn't help. [[spoiler:Nope! Turns out at the end that it's just an extremely rare and extremely delicious non-illegal cake, and Raven's "addiction" was merely [[BigEater her appetite]] acting up. [[RunningGag Again.]]]]
** Another side mission has Kat delivering a box with contents so foul that ''everyone runs away screaming their heads off in terror'' just by going near them. Kat herself has to take constant breaks for fresh air or she will ''pass out'' and plummet to her doom. When she finally gets the box to the intended recipient, the terrible contents are revealed to be...[[spoiler:his mother's pickles.]]
** Yet another side mission (rather, a chain of them) have Kat being offered roles in the show biz, with promises of stardom. In all but one, what she is actually doing is [[spoiler:working as a double for the REAL star]]. [[ThrowTheDogABone And when she]] ''[[ThrowTheDogABone does]]'' [[ThrowTheDogABone get what she was actually promised]] in that one mission, [[spoiler:a Nevi attack prompts the leading director to step down, with the assistant director stepping up and promptly dismissing Kat in favor of another, seasoned actor (presumably the same person Kat has been working as a double for).]] [[YankTheDogsChain Ouch.]]
* BigBad: One per chapter of the game:
** In the prologue, this "[[StarterVillain villain]]" is Sun Shipping President Vogo, who tries to cheat Banga Settlement out of their honest work. After eating some HumblePie, he [[DefeatMeansFriendship more or less befriends Kat and the others]], [[spoiler:although that doesn't stop him from setting them up for the Council to save his own skin. He does redeem himself later though.]]
** For the first chapter, [[OmniscientCouncilOfVagueness the Council]] fulfills this position. [[TheManBehindTheMan They pull the strings behind the Garrison]], and have the support of the people of Lei Havina, which harbors all the rich people, as they benefit from the way things are run. They are directly and indirectly responsible for the PerpetualPoverty of the people of Lei Elgona, and have no qualms about treating them like disposable assets. Although they eventually lose their power due to [[spoiler:the Lhao Revolution]], they [[KarmaHoudini evade all comeuppance for their actions by holing themselves up in an impregnable fortress.]] [[spoiler:At least until the Lost City crashes their party. [[ColonyDrop Literally.]]]]
** For the second chapter, [[spoiler:Dr. Brahman]] is this. Initially presented as a ReasonableAuthorityFigure, [[spoiler:he]] is actually using [[spoiler:his]] position and resources to conduct highly dubious operations with the purpose of [[spoiler:freezing all of Hekseville in time in a vain attempt to rejoin with his petrified daughter.]] [[spoiler:His]] deeds include murder, framing others for murder, [[PlayingWithSyringes human experimentation]] and [[HarmfulToMinors the kidnapping of orphans for said experiments]][[note]] The same Missing Orphans Case depicted in ''Overture.''[[/note]], and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking leaving for a stroll during works hours.]] Perhaps as an acknowledgement of the visibility of [[spoiler:his]] deeds, [[spoiler:he actually dies on-screen, and [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice painfully]] at that.]]
** For the last chapter, [[spoiler:King Cai]], who plans to [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans destroy the world and remake it into a better world]], as [[spoiler:he]] sees it, and plans to do so by [[spoiler:[[SealedEvilInACan setting loose a powerful, crazed spirit]]]] to do the erasing for [[spoiler:him]]. [[spoiler:Then when his plan is foiled, he is usurped by [[SatanicArchetype The Darkness,]] which is [[TheManBehindTheMan the actual villain who planted the idea into his head in the first place]], as well as [[GreaterScopeVillain the ultimate evil behind the series]], and proceeds to possess him and his guardian in order to take physical form in the world and continue the devastation.]]
* BigEater: A new character quirk for ''both'' shifters. Kat and Raven eat so much (presumably for all the energy consumed for shifting all the time) that other characters worry that their eating expenses alone will bankrupt Banga Settlement. Between Kat and Raven, ''Raven'' is apparently the bigger glutton. According to Kat, she eats ''ten times'' as much as Kat does.
** This not even going into how several of the photo gestures are of Kat [[{{Hammerspace}} pulling a snack from nowhere]] and stuffing it down then and there.
* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler: Kat defeats the Darkness and saves Hekesville, fulfilling Alua's wish to help the people below Eto [[HeroicSacrifice at the cost of herself]]. However, the epilogue upgrades this to EarnYourHappyEnding with Kat's return.]]
** [[spoiler:Played straight with the ending of the Raven's Choice DLC. Raven finally saves Zaza and the children inside the Ark by ensuring the bus accident never occurred and fixing time and space. Zaza and the other kids from the bus lived happy, normal lives decades before the events of the main game, and eventually a new brother and sister named Zaza and Sachya were born (the grandchildren of Raven's brother). But Raven had to give up her entire past, to the point the original Zaza never even had a sister, and Raven only remembers being a child alone on the streets before she met her guardian Xii.]]
* BoringButPractical: Normal Style might not be as flashy as Lunar or Jupiter Style, and it consists of all the same maneuvers you were capable of pulling off in the previous game. However, there are very few combat situations where it isn't useful, and it doesn't hinder Kat's movement in any way.
* CentralTheme: The separation and inequality between people on a social, economic, geographic and even ''temporal'' scale, and yet how great things can still happen if connections are formed between them.
* ChargedAttack: Jupiter Style exchanges the regular Gravity Kick for the Surge Kick, which can be charged by holding the Square button. Hitting maximum charge then releasing unleashes an extremely powerful kick that additionally deals AreaOfEffect damage if the target is a solid, flat surface. The attack can still be performed before hitting max charge, but the effect will be substantially weaker. This is naturally the go-to move for wiping mobs of grounded enemies or breaking bunches of ore.
** In the very same chapter that this move is obtained, a version of the move were Raven pitches in with her own lesser version of the Surge Kick is made available to use any time Raven is with the player.
* ColonCancer: Raven's DLC story is called ''Gravity Rush 2: Another Story: The Ark of Time -- Raven's Choice''.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: Lunar Style is denoted with light blue, Jupiter Style is denoted with orange. [[spoiler:The Kat look-alike is a palette swap of Kat to help distinguish from your Kat when in close quarters. Most prominently, her body turns green while shifting to contrast Kat's red color.]]
* CombinationAttack: Kat and Raven can attack simultaneously with Gravity Kicks to inflict more damage, and can also combine their {{Finishing Move}}s to [[StuffBlowingUp deadly effect.]] They can also perform a Double Surge Kick, and a double Spiraling Claws.
** The {{Dual Boss}}es [[spoiler:Kali and Durga Angel]] have several combination maneuvers, including the latter creating [[FloatingPlatforms stepping stones]] for the former to do air combat with, and providing matter for [[BladeBelowTheShoulder bladed weaponry,]] as well as simply synchronizing attack patterns.
** Another pair of {{Dual Boss}}es, [[spoiler:Yunica and Permet]], may on occasion deploy their projectiles at the same time to trap you ''between'' two sets of MacrossMissileMassacre.
* ContinuityNod: Kat and Dusty's [[spoiler:PantheraAwesome combined form]] from the very end of the first game returns, and it's shown that Raven has one of her own. Moreover, these return as [[spoiler:their {{Super Mode}}s, and late-game battles often have them entering it first in order to deliver even more epic finishing moves.]]
** [[spoiler:Permet]] returns as an AscendedExtra from a [=DLC=] of the first game, with Kat recognizing them, making at least [[spoiler:the military [=DLC=]]] canon. This also extends to the title she receives during that [=DLC=] ("[[spoiler:Sea Cat]]")
** The strange object Syd pulls out but is stopped short of using before the FinalBoss of the first game [[ChekhovsGun makes a return appearance during the final battle of this game]]: [[spoiler:a device that allows him to command Nevi, which he sends against The Darkness to buy Kat time to pull herself together.]]
** The red gem that D'Nelica is seen with during the epilogue of the first game is heavily implied to be [[spoiler:the recorded message made by Queen Alua to the dwellers beneath Eto.]]
* {{Crossover}}: Via free DLC, you can get the outfit "Crazy Kitten" from the popular Japanese MMORPG ''VideoGame/PhantasyStarOnline2'', as well as the Rappy Photo Item based on the ''Phantasy Star'' SeriesMascot. An update added 2B's outfit (with or without blindfold) from VideoGame/NierAutomata.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Even though it still has its comical humor like the original, this time it's also does contain gritty moments now and then, especially at the end of Chapter 3 and starting at the final chapter.
* DarkestHour: The final battle, which goes FromBadToWorse for the heroes.
** [[spoiler:Kat, traversing the final vision of the game to put together the last pieces of her broken memory, cannot defend Hekseville from the rampaging Elektricitie. She learns that she, queen of Eto, was exiled in a coup, and Syd died trying to save her.]]
** [[spoiler:In her place, Raven puts up a vicious but hopeless fight to protect the city alone, and is overwhelmed and defeated, cast down from the sky. Yunica, Permet, and Lisa all arrive to help, but each fails to do any lasting damage.]]
** [[spoiler:Kat, thanks to the Creators pulling a HeroicSacrifice (despite knowing it will mean their own erasure), is able to finish the job and take out Elektricitie after a pitched battle... but the true BigBad, Darkness, is able to manifest by warping King Cai's Guardian into an avatar.]]
** [[spoiler:Kat struggles through a HopelessBossFight against an enemy that constantly regenerates its power while ritually weakening Kat's. Even the arrival of Cecie/Durga, who reveals that she can now control her powers and jumps in to help, encasing Darkness in crystal, is not enough to turn the tide, and the angel is swatted aside.]]
** [[spoiler:Beaten, Kat then takes a BreakingSpeech from the beast itself, encouraging her to stay down and accept what's to come; she won't even remember this encounter, she'll live forever in unknowing bliss, if only she submits... ]]
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: [[spoiler:The Council, who are behind all the problems in Jirga Para Lhao and manage to survive the revolution to plot against Lisa, are unceremoniously killed when the Lost City suddenly appears and obliterates the island they're on.]]
* DisappearsintoLight: [[spoiler:After Kat finally accepts her memories from 100 years ago, Syd vanishes into light after telling her that this was their "...last memory together."]]
* DwindlingParty: [[spoiler:Throughout the final battle, all of Kat's friends and allies throw everything they have before they're taken out. Raven, Yunica and Permet fall to Elektricitie, the Creators sacrifice themselves to tip the odds in Kat's favor, the Bismalia as commanded by Lisa is shot down, Cecie is incapacitated, Dusty is lost, and Kat herself is forced to make a HeroicSacrifice to defeat the Darkness once and for all.]]
* EldritchAbomination: The Nevi are back, and in new grotesque forms to boot.
** [[spoiler:The Lost City--[[GeniusLoci a Nevi-fied Neu Hiraleon]]--is a truly GiantFlyer that creates gravity storms to swallow ''whole islands'' in seconds in order to assimilate their matter to make itself bigger. It has huge tentacled cores everywhere that spew poison, and in the very center of the thing (keep in mind that basically the whole thing is alive) is a large, out-of-control reactor that looks like a human skull hooked up to large tubes pumping it full of purple liquid.]]
** [[spoiler:The Darkness, essentially a nigh-unstoppable avatar of destruction and negativity. It possesses Cai and his guardian and then transforms into what can only be called a demon, through and through: a gigantic winged beast with a head that seems a fusion between a dragon and a stag, with multiple regenerating eyes everywhere, and the ability to steal all of Kat's powers bit by bit while {{No Sell}}ing practically ''everything'' our heroes can throw at it. And this thing's endgame was the obliteration of everything!]]
* EvolvingAttack: Most of Kat's moves can be empowered with Gems, as in the previous game. This includes extending her normal combo, the number of times she can dodge in a row, increasing the inherent properties of her styles' special throws and special attacks, and so on. Suffice to say that comparing a fully powered-up Kat with starter Kat is like comparing a panther with a kitten.
* EvolvingTitleScreen: The title screen will show off later scenes in the game to reflect where you currently are in the story.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: At the beginning of the game Syd offhandedly tells Kat about a dream he had where he saved a princess and held her hand. [[spoiler:Flash forward to the end of the Eto chapter, and we find out that this was exactly what happened 100 years ago. Except that Syd left out the part where he was stabbed in the back and killed in the process.]]
* GreaterScopeVillain: [[spoiler:The Darkness/The Destructive Force]] is this for ''both'' games, and finally surfaces at the final stretch of the second game.
* GrowlingGut: Happens to Kat twice at the beginning of the game.
* GuideDangIt: The Photograph Collection sidequest. You ''will'' tear your hair out as you scour Hekseville and Jirga Para Lhao trying to decipher the vague hints the game gives you regarding each subject.
* HairFlip: Raven's idle animation has her doing this a lot.
* HeroicSacrifice: Several instances of this occur in the game:
** In the mission to save Syd and Cecie from the Council, Vogo rams his airship into the Bismalia to stop it from destroying the Banga mining ship, succeeding while sacrificing himself in the process. [[spoiler: It's ultimately subverted as he turns out to have survived, having jumped out at the last moment.]]
** [[spoiler: Played straight in the final chapters of the game. Gade and Cyanea each sacrifice themselves in order to assist Kat in the final battle, Bit sacrifices himself to revive Syd one last time, and Kat herself becomes a singularity at the bottom of the world in order to seal away the sea of darkness. However, TheStinger reveals that [[EarnYourHappyEnding Kat comes back one year after her sacrifice.]]]]
** [[spoiler: Syd performs three heroic sacrifices during the game. 100 years ago in Eto, Syd tried to save Kat/Alua from an assassination attempt by Xicero, only to get stabbed in the back and killed in the process. Syd also stayed on the Bismalia while Kat and Raven entered the possessed Neu Hiraleon so that he could fire the main guns and open a path for them. Later on in the level, you see the ghost city devour the Bismalia, resulting in Syd dying a second time. Finally, while possessing a robotic Alias body, Syd puts himself between Xicero and Wolp, which destroys the robot Alias body. He manages to [[BackfromtheDead come back]] every time though.]]
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: Kat's fight against [[spoiler:Raven,]] who was [[BrainwashedAndCrazy brainwashed]] by the Jirga Para Lhao Garrison is this. Kat is successful when she [[spoiler:breaks the mask that controlled Raven]].
** Later, an even more complex situation arises when [[spoiler:Cecie]] transforms into Durga Angel, who is [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity clearly unhinged,]] and also on the BigBad's side. Kat and Raven [[FightingYourFriend actually fight]] [[spoiler:Yunica and Permet]] [[SadisticChoice over whether they should save her from her madness or give up on her for the sake of those she endangers.]] Ultimately, [[spoiler:Cecie responds to Lisa calling out to her, and gains control over her Durga persona.]]
* InterfaceSpoiler: Opening the Collection screen while using the camera spoils the fact that [[spoiler: Kat eventually returns to Hekseville.]]
** Checking the Statistics page when nearing the end of the [[spoiler:Hekseville]] chapter will inform the player that there is still a sizable chunk of story they have yet to play, meaning that what seems to be the final boss of the game actually ''isn't''.
* ItemCrafting: Although the game offers some pre-made Talismans (a number of them with unique abilities that cannot be obtained in any other way), the best Talismans are almost universally player-made sets that involve hunting for individual pieces in Gravity Mines and then taking them to Aki's place [[EliteTweak to mix-and-match them into finished pieces with the desired ability loadout.]]
* KickChick: Kat, as usual. However, swapping to Jupiter Style causes Kat to instead attack with her fists and hands, probably due to [[FridgeBrilliance her legs being too heavy to properly kick with them when grounded.]]
** Raven clearly has less issues with hand strikes, but her attacks are still mainly kicks as well. Differing from Kat, her version of the Gravity Kick actually deals multiple kicks in sequence, rather than a single powerful one.
* JustLikeRobinHood: [[spoiler:The Angry Centipedes]] turn out to be this, much to Kat's [[HeelRealization unpleasant surprise]]. [[TheAtoner She takes every opportunity afterwards to assist them]], and [[LovedByAll quickly becomes just as beloved by them as she was back in Hekseville]].
* LaResistance: [[spoiler: The Banga miners alongside Kat and Raven, as well as Fi become this when they decide that it's time to take out the Jirga Para Lhao ruling council]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''Discovery of Gravitation'' returns, [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic redone with an even classier feel--and with lyrics!]]
* LightIsNotGood: [[spoiler:Kali Angel and Durga Angel both have an angelic motif with their white clothes and feathery wings, and they serve as Brahman's completely AxCrazy CoDragons with their goal to freeze time in Hekseville. In order to stand up to them, Kat and Raven both have to acquire a SuperMode that gives them starry night-like animal forms, putting DarkIsNotEvil into full effect as well.]]
* MiniMecha:
** Among Kat's new enemies are a human-controlled bipedal combat vehicle. Dealing sufficient damage will cause the pilot to eject and attempt to flee before [[StuffBlowingUp the mecha explodes violently.]]
** One boss is a quadrapedal, slightly larger mecha dubbed "the Army's secret weapon". [[AttackItsWeakpoint Striking the generators on its leg exposes the core on its back. Striking the core is the only way to deal damage.]]
* OldSaveBonus: Having a ''Gravity Rush'' save file allows you to import costumes that appeared in the first game that Kat can wear again.
* PaperThinDisguise: Averted. When the "Night Gale" attacks her, Kat clearly recognizes her as [[spoiler: Raven wearing a mask]].
* PercussiveMaintenance: There are a few instances where Kat will be tasked with repairing machinery. Kat goes about these instances pretty much the same way she does everything else: by kicking them until they work.
* PerformanceAnxiety: Kat is shown initially stumbling on a singing performance she's putting up, until she gradually gains confidence.
* PermanentlyMissableContent:
** Averted. Side quests that by all rights should be made unavailable to you because of story-mandated character disappearances or changes to the environment are treated as flashbacks if you do them late.
** Played straight as far as Dusty Token rewards are concerned. Any player who failed to unlock the gestures, talismans, and costumes before the online services were shut down in July 2018 now have no way of getting them since there are no offline ways to acquire Dusty Tokens.
* TheReveal: Several in the final chapter explain the nature of Kat and the world.
* RivalsTeamUp: Kat and Raven are friends now, and often team-up on missions together.
** The ending of the Raven's Choice DLC shows that [[spoiler:history has been rewritten between the games, such that the bus full of children that fell to Botoume never fell. Since the plight of the children was central to the misunderstanding that caused Kat and Raven to have a rivalry in the first place, this change to history likely means that they became allies and friends much faster than they did in the events of Gravity Rush 1.]]
* RPGElements: The new Talisman system allows the player to strengthen or tweak Kat's powers by equipping Talismans with different ability sets. These can do things ranging from increasing Kat's basic statistics to augmenting how her moves work, such as increasing the travel distance or homing properties of her Gravity Kicks or the number of items she can pick up with a Stasis Field. Some Talismans can be obtained by completing {{Sidequest}}s and other in-game achievements, but generally the best way to exploit the system is by [[ItemCrafting making custom Talismans from individual pieces]] collected from Gravity Mines. Each Talisman can hold at most 3 abilities, and as long as the ability doesn't state otherwise you can stack multiple copies of the same ability to compound the effect. Most of the best abilities cannot be obtained until the BonusDungeon becomes accessible, however, so a player is more likely to be using the pre-made Talismans for most of the game.
** Additionally, Kat can equip a max of three Talismans at a time, one per Talisman shape, and each shape corresponds to one of her styles. This is not to say that only one is in effect at a time depending on the Style you're currently using, but rather that a number of abilities are style-specific and only drop naturally in that shape. The only way to get those abilities in a different shape (in order to stack it more than 3 times) is to get multiple copies of talismans with the same abilities in order to turn them into a single talisman of a different shape with that same ability set, rotating from Sphere to Crescent to Triangle to Sphere (or Normal, Lunar, Jupiter and Normal styles). This can involve copious amounts of ItemFarming to transfer abilities two shapes over, but the results can often be rather extraordinary. [[labelnote:Example]] For example, stacking the Driver ability (which increases the travel distance of Lunar Style's long jumps) about 7 or 8 times [[InASingleBound results in long jumps that cover several hundred meters horizontally and several dozen or even hundred meters vertically]], essentially obsoleting the need to perform a gravity shift except to travel to places where there is not enough matter to jump from.[[/labelnote]]
* SayMyName: [[spoiler:At the climax of his final [[BigDamnHeroes Big Damn Heroes]] moment in the second game, with all of Hekseville singing Discovery of Gravitation around him, Syd softly says Kat’s name before he sends his army of Nevi to help her.]]
** [[spoiler:At the very end of the game Raven turns towards the camera and says Kat’s name with reacting adorably relieved, letting the audience know that she’s back.]]
* SequelEscalation: This game's world map is "''about 2.5 times bigger than [Gravity Rush 1]''". Players of the first game will understand how mind-boggling this is.
* SheCleansUpNicely: During one mission, Kat ends up mistaken for a singer and is forced into a red evening dress and with her hair done up to perform on stage.
* ShoutOut:
** ''Gravity Rush'' concept artist [[WordOfGod Takeshi Oga]] [[http://www.siliconera.com/2018/03/08/satoru-iwatas-directly-pose-hand-rebellious-gravity-rush-2-design/ stated]] that the hands that points the player to the direction they need to go was inspired by Creator/SatoruIwata's memorable "directly to you" gesture.
** The ending is very similar to that of ''Anime/{{DieBuster}}''.
* TheSkyIsAnOcean: While the first game had elements of this, ''Gravity Rush 2'' leans heavier in this theme with the introduction of Banga and Jirga Para Lhao. Banga has all of the aesthetics of a PortTown, the various districts in Jirga Para Lhao are referred to as "islands", all of the {{Flying Car}}s are called "Airboats", ore-mining is done in protective gear aesthetically similar to diving suits, the various "lost cities" ore mining is done in look similar to {{Sunken Cit|y}}ies, and the rift Kat gains the Lunar Style in is themed around Mollusc shells.
* SpeakingSimlish: Like the first game, the characters speak a vaguely French-inspired gibberish language.
* StanceSystem: By swiping on the touch pad/touch screen, Kat can move between her [[JackOfAllStats normal style]] to two new Gravity styles: Lunar Style and Jupiter Style.
** [[FragileSpeedster Lunar Style]]: Activated by swiping upwards. Kat's gravity is lightened, allowing her to move in leaps and bounds and attack with floaty kicks. Jumping performs a SpringJump that has extremely high vertical distance, and pressing the jump button and a direction simultaneously allows her to perform long jumps that cover great horizontal distances. The Gravity Kick becomes a homing attack that teleports to a desired target, then allows Kat to assault it with light kicks via ButtonMashing. Her stasis field projectiles also become minor storms on impact that trap targets for a brief window of time. Lastly, her special move in the style is based on the stalactite special from the first game, albeit with the ammo determined by the surrounding objects in the area. Interesting to note, due to the decreased weight, her fall speed during shifting is actually less than her Normal style, but has more freedom of movement.
** [[MightyGlacier Jupiter Style]]: Activated by swiping downwards. Kat's gravity is strengthened, reducing her movement speed and jump height and allowing her to attack with slow, but powerful punches and palm strikes. The Gravity Kick becomes a ChargedAttack that has incredible damage when fully charged and enables the attack to strike in a radius when attacking grounded targets. Her stasis field in this mode changes to congregate her collected projectiles into a single large boulder for greater impact. Her special move while in this style is the same as the micro black hole from the the first game. In an inverse the Lunar Style, the enhanced weight causes her fall speed during shifting to actually increase and is faster than Lunar or Normal Style, but is also much harder to control.
** Normal Style: The default style and can be switched back to by tapping the touch pad. It operates pretty much the same as how Kat did in the previous game. In this style, her special move is the Spiral Claw.
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:Some segments in the final part of the game allow Kat to use a form called Panther Mode, which gives her free control over wherever she flies to and lets her attack for humongous damage.]]
** [[spoiler: Raven has her own version called Phoenix Mode]]
* TimeDilation: A major plot point in both games. Time flows at different rates between dimensions, and also depending on where you are on Hekseville's pillar. It goes slower the further down you go because of the enormous black hole at the bottom.
* TimeSkip: [[spoiler: After returning to Hekseville, Kat learns that she had been gone for three years.]] [[spoiler: The last chapter of the game takes place one year after the final battle and Kat's HeroicSacrifice.]]
* TeleportSpam: Wormhole Kick, especially with the right talismans.
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler:Alua’s music box. It is the origin of the Discovery of Gravitation melody, and it was the only thing she had to remember her parents and grandmother by after she was chosen as queen.]]
* UpperClassTwit: Just about everyone in Lei Havina with few exceptions. The people there are materialistic, spoiled, wasteful, classist, and completely out of touch with the events in Jirga Para Lhao. Those that aren't outright dismissive of the impoverished in Lei Elgona barely even know it ''exists''.
* UrbanSegregation: Played straight by Jirga Para Lhao with the rich living in floating mansions in a luxurious district and the poor in a slum area in the lowest level of the city, clumped together in some floating docks.
* TheUsurper: [[spoiler: Jirga Para Lhao's ruling council, who generations ago drove out the ruling Lhao Clan]].
* VideoGameCaringPotential: Certain missions give you split choices to either do your job or break the rules and help the downtrodden. One such mission involves retrieving some fuel for a rich snob's party. When you get there though, you learn of the ridiculous amount you're picking up for just one person and have the choice to deliver it to the slums where people need the fuel just to stay warm (as opposed to just burning fires for parties because they can afford to).
* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: ... Of course, you could always just bring said fuel to the party-goers and let the poor freeze.
** Unlike the previous game, there's many more human enemies. You could simply beat them down - or you can grab them in stasis and throw them around, at each other, or off ledges into the void.
** If you hover where a lot of people are standing, you'll lift them up into the air and they'll drift alongside you. Go ahead, see how many you can fling off the island, and watch them plummet to their doom. The game won't punish you at all for it!
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Mayor Bolsey and the Snakerabbits do not appear nor they are even mentioned when a majority of characters from the previous games returned.
* WreakingHavok: Kat's new Stasis Field ability lets her pick up environmental pieces and chuck them at enemies to deal damage.
