* ActorAllusion: Used in a few episodes.
** Creator/KevinSmith guest stars in one episode and has him play Silent Bob in TheStinger.
** Played with in one episode where Frank Stallone guest starred; during TheStinger, Billy Gardell (who plays one of Jimmy's security guard buddies) comes out dressed as [[Film/{{Rocky}} Mickey]] and wants him to act out lines from the movie. An angry Frank refuses ("you have Bill Murray's brother on the show, do you ask him to recite lines from Film/{{Ghostbusters|1984}}?!") and leaves. Moments later, Phill Lewis, dressed as Apollo Creed comes in and says sadly "Ain't gonna be no rematch (Beat) ain't gonna be no rematch."
* TheDanza: Creator/BillyGardell as Billy Colivita.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Why this show isn't available in any form of media is anyone's guess. Hope you managed to record reruns on Creator/{{TBS}}, Creator/{{CMT}} or on Creator/NickJr. through their [=NickMom=] block.
* MakingUseOfTheTwin: Both the twin actors for Sammy are shown toward the end of the episode "Headshot".
* TheOtherDarrin: Both of the Hughes brothers were victim to this, though Logan had a lot more than Dominic. They even lampshade this in the episodes "House of the Rising Son", "We're Having a Baby", and "Jimmy the Teacher".
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The series received little promotion and bounced all over the CBS schedule because the network used it as a cheap filler show.
* SleeperHit: It was never considered appointment viewing but still managed to keep a decent-sized audience because it was the kind of show people would come across and keep on because it didn't require much investment to enjoy. It also helped that the series was almost completely devoid of [[StoryArc Story Arcs]], so most episodes could have been enjoyed even having never seen the series before.
* UnCanceled: The show was never a huge success. It was savaged by critics and internet commenters for being a dull, cookie-cutter sitcom. Yet it pulled in ratings strong enough for a respectable five season run and was cheap enough to be brought back for a sixth after CBS cancelled a large number of shows and realized, at the last minute, that they didn't have anything else lined up to fill the empty time.
