!Trivia for the film
* ApprovalOfGod:
** Cherie Curie apparently burst into TearsOfJoy when she heard Creator/DakotaFanning had been cast to play her. While she noted that the movie had some artistic license with the facts, she enjoyed it overall.
--> "I actually forget it’s my story, just because she’s so good and so believable. You get engulfed in the film. It’s wild."
** Although Music/LitaFord did not allow filmmakers to adapt her life, she gave Creator/ScoutTaylorCompton her approval after meeting with her.
** Music/JoanJett likewise gave Creator/KristenStewart her approval, claiming the performance made her proud. She was even briefly fooled by a recording of Kristen playing one of her songs, assuming she was listening to one of her old demo tapes. She also praised how the movie captured the aesthetic of Los Angeles in the 70s.
* CastTheExpert: Subverted. Scout Taylor Compton already knows how to play the drums, so she auditioned for Sandy West for this reason. She however got the role of Lita Ford, and had to learn to play the guitar.
* DawsonCasting: Averted. 15-year old-Cherie was played by the then 16-year-old Creator/DakotaFanning, and Downplayed with Music/JoanJett, who was 17, played by the 19/20 year old Creator/KristenStewart. Additionally the movie takes place over a two year timespan, matching Stewart's age with Joan's by the end.
* DisownedAdaptation: Sort of. Lita Ford has never watched the movie, and only the trailers, and says she has no interest in seeing it.
* DyeingForYourArt: Dakota Fanning cut her hair onscreen. Kristen Stewart also dyed and cut her hair into Joan's signature styleThe Twilight Saga: Eclipse started production around the same time as The Runaways so she wore a wig for the former film - as well as learning how to play guitar. Scout Taylor-Compton also got personal coaching from Lita Ford.
* QueerCharacterQueerActor: Creator/KristenStewart, who's bisexual (though she wasn't out at the time) plays Music/JoanJett (who has dated both men and women, but doesn't label herself as bi).
* ThrowItIn: Creator/KristenStewart voices the woman who introduces Cherie at the school talent show. She just happened to wander by the set that day and they asked her.
