!!The video game:
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The game has been delisted from every digital distribution store it's ever been on. The fact that the game was never given a physical release only makes this worse, since it basically confines the game to those who had purchased it back when it was available and those who can find a used console with the game in it (the latter method being a crapshoot at best).
** It was ''very briefly'' re-listed on Steam. It was delisted just as quickly, with anyone who bought the game during this brief period being refunded, which suggests this was an error.

!!The movie:
* BoxOfficeBomb: Budget, $135 million (not counting marketing costs). Box office, $82,051,601 (domestic), $245,623,848 (worldwide). Things could have gone very badly if the movie didn't do so well overseas and in DVD sales. The consequences? Viacom's quarterly profit reports went down and the planned third film was scrapped, an announcement made while the film was still in theaters, no less.
* CelebrityVoiceActor: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Rocksteady and Bebop are voiced by Website/YouTube's bloggers Gabriel "Werevertumorro" Montiel and Alejandro "Alex" Montiel respectively, and Krang is voiced by comedian Facundo Gomez.
* ContractualObligationProject: Creator/AlanRitchson says that he only returned because he was locked into a three-picture deal and that he'd done everything he could to try and get out of his contract after the miserable experience he had with the previous film.
* CreatorBacklash: Kevin Eastman was initially on board with both the movies, even doing a CreatorCameo in this movie, but in a 2024 comic con, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdubrhCgOGY&t=839s he admitted to liking both these movies less]] compared to more TruerToTheText adaptations.
-->'''Kevin Eastman:''' ...When I sold my part and Pete sold his part of the Turtles, there were versions of it done later that I didn't like as much. I didn't not like them but there were things like the ''WesternAnimation/TurtlesForever'' animated movie, [[ApprovalOfGod which I liked very much]], which I had no input on. The [[WesternAnimation/{{TMNT}} 2007 animated movie]] I worked a little bit on, but that was really Kevin Munroe who wrote and directed it, [[ApprovalOfGod fantastic]]. Um, the Creator/MichaelBay versions of the movies, I like a little less. ''(Audience laughs)'' And I had input on those, unfortunately. Um, I think they used anything I consulted and I told them when they were working on those live action movies, I think they used it as a... to do the opposite of it. [...] "Yeah, don't make them 8 foot 2 tall, bulletproof and give them noses." [[BlatantLies "Okay!"]]
* CreatorCameo: Franchise co-creator Kevin Eastman appears as a pizza delivery guy.
* CreatorKiller: The second Paramount/Nickelodeon ''TMNT'' film was one of several 2016 bombs that mixed together with a shareholder revolt at Viacom from Sumner and Shari Redstone over CEO Philippe Dauman's handling of the company, leading to Dauman's resignation from Viacom after 10 years. It was also one of the last straws for Paramount CEO Brad Grey, who resigned in February 2017 and died a few months later.
* DisownedAdaptation: As with the previous movie, Peter Laird does not include this sequel in the Q&A blog post.
* FranchiseKiller: [[http://collider.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2-box-office-flop/ According to this interview]], the movie didn't earn enough money to justify a second sequel that was being planned. The makers ''were'' confident this wouldn't be the last ''Ninja Turtles'' film (a sentiment that has since then been proven to be true, as both a feature-length special based on ''WesternAnimation/RiseOfTheTeenageMutantNinjaTurtles'' and [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesMutantMayhem another theatrical film produced by Seth Rogen]] have been released in the years since, but it's safe to say we won't be hearing from this iteration of the boys in green again anytime soon, if ever.
* MoneyDearBoy: The four turtle actors had a miserable time with the first movie, so Paramount tried to stem a rebellion by tempting them with the promise of some profit sharing, which the studio ultimately reneged on.
* TheOriginalDarrin: Pete Ploszek gets to provide motion capture and voicework for Leonardo this time rather than having dubbed over by Johnny Knoxville as in the previous film. This wasn't clear until the film actually came out, and Knoxville says he doesn't know why he wasn't asked to return.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** While he's still voiced by Creator/TonyShalhoub, Master Splinter is now motion-captured by Peter D. Badalamenti, as opposed to Danny Woodburn.
** Creator/BrianTee replaces Tohoru Masamune as the Shredder.
** Creator/TylerPerry replaces K. Todd Freeman as Baxter Stockman.
** Creator/BrittanyIshibashi replaces Minae Noji as Karai.
** In the Japanese dub, Kanako Tojo voices April O'Neil instead of Becky.
* TheOtherMarty: Creator/FredArmisen was originally scheduled to play Krang, and was all set to shoot his scenes, but he bowed out due to scheduling conflicts. He was subsequently replaced by Creator/BradGarrett.
* PromotedFanboy: [[https://www.cgmbacklot.com/2016/05/31/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-out-of-the-shadows-movie-brittany-ishibashi-karai-interview/ Brittany Ishibashi]], who even auditioned hoping the "female soldier" she was up for was Karai, which it was.
* RealLifeWritesTheHairstyle: Because Creator/StephenAmell was between seasons of ''Series/{{Arrow}}'', the traditionally long-haired Casey Jones sports a buzzcut.
* RefittedForSequel: Krang, as well as Bebop and Rocksteady were all considered for [[Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2014 the first movie]] to the point of making it to the concept art phase, but didn't get in. They're finally making their big-screen debut in this one.
* RemakeCameo: In an ultimately deleted scene, [[https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/megan-fox-her-predecessor-collide-000000224.html April talks with the network president, played by the first actress to portray her]], Creator/JudithHoag ("[[PredecessorCastingGag You and I, we're basically the same!]]").
* RoleReprise: Mário Jorge, Garcia Júnior and Márcio Simões reprise their characters from [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles1987 the original series]] (Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady) in the Brazilian Portuguese dub. It helps that the movie's ADR director/translator, Manolo Rey, was the original voice of Leonardo.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Wrestling/CMPunk was considered, and auditioned for the role of Rocksteady. The role eventually moved to fellow WWE superstar Sheamus.
* WorkingTitle: Before the trailer hit, the film's title was previously reported to be ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Half-Shell''.
