* BeamMeUpScotty:
** Often, a quote for a trope entry or a page quote will be listed incorrectly, especially if it's on multiple pages.
** Many quotes will be presented in [[PunctuatedForEmphasis This. Is. Sparta.]] format when it wasn't said like that. This is partly why the trope was renamed to PunctuatedForEmphasis.
* ColbertBump:
** After TV Tropes was mentioned in ''Webcomic/{{xkcd}}'', a mob of newbies washed over the forums and wiki, trashing the servers.
** Through the nature of {{Wiki Walk}}ing, TV Tropes itself has a tendency to give support to Website/YouTube videos that illustrate a certain trope. These videos would otherwise probably fall into [=YouTube=] obscurity, and thus you may see a top comment saying "Who else got here from TV Tropes?"
* CreatorBacklash: Many longtime tropers are ashamed of the former Troper Tales and Fetish Fuel sections of the site, and for good reason. The entries there were so... uh, off-color, giving ''way'' TooMuchInformation about the tropers who posted there, that they damn near dragged this site's reputation down to the level of Website/FourChan. Thankfully, it was removed and will never come back. The two sections were moved to separate sites, which are now both offline.
%%ZCE * DemandOverload: The site nearly ran into this during Archive/TheGoogleIncident.
* DummiedOut: Using the "view source" button on some pages here will reveal commented-out lines in the wiki markup (lines which begin with [=%%=] are comments). At times, these may include examples that were hidden because they didn't meet the Wiki standards, but weren't completely removed in hopes that some troper, someday, would save them.
%% You saw that and immediately looked at the source of this page, didn't you? Of course you did. Hello, Troper!
* FanCommunityNicknames: [[Administrivia/TVTropesGlossary Tropers]].
%% * FollowTheLeader: Like many other wikis, TV Tropes is this to Website/{{Wikipedia}}.
* GodNeverSaidThat: Some users misinterpret Administrivia/WorkPagesAreAFreeLaunch as an imperative that bars work pages from being put through the TropeLaunchPad, and proceed to parrot the Administrivia page's title on any work pages they encounter there. This is despite the fact that the Administrivia page itself explicitly says that users are still welcome to use the TropeLaunchPad for work pages, it just ''isn't mandatory'' to do so.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes:
** It's become harder and harder to find archives of some of the old TroperTales as time has gone on. Some tales were never archived at all.
** Due to Archive/TheGreatCrash, some portions of the site are lost, at least on TV Tropes itself; whether archive sites like the Wayback Machine saved copies is not guaranteed.
* NewbieBoom: This wiki gets a Newbie Boom each time an outside community links in. ''Webcomic/{{xkcd}}'' linked here once and killed the server for part of a day.
* TrendKiller: Stock phrase titles were never good trope namers to begin with, but two tropes can be traced to this titling convention's ultimate downfall: '''I Eat Metaphor For Breakfast''' and '''WhatYearIsThis'''. [[Administrivia/TropeRepairShop TRS]] threads for both ended up [[MinorCrimeRevealsMajorPlot uncovering a massive epidemic of]] Administrivia/TropeDecay involving stock phrases. As a result, in mid-2011 it was decreed that Administrivia/NoNewStockPhrases would be used as trope titles.
* {{Vaporware}}: The Administrivia/TwoPointZero update has been touted for years as a significant overhaul of the wiki, particularly in terms of how convenient editing and maintenance would be with it. Since it was announced, there have been more minor updates instead, such as 2018's 1.8 update.
* WhyFandomCantHaveNiceThings: So many instances that [[WhyFandomCantHaveNiceThings/TVTropes it has its own page.]]
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Some of the alternate names on the crowner that eventually renamed YouKnowThatThingWhere to TropeLaunchPad: Trope Lab, Trope R&D, Trope Nursery, Build-A-Trope, and even "how odd!".
