* ActingForTwo: While this has always been standard procedure for the anime, special mention goes to Creator/KentaMiyake voicing ''all six of Leon's Pokémon'', a feat never before seen in the show's history.
* AscendedFanon: May and Serena becoming friends was a common trope in fanfiction & fan-art due to their [[BirdsOfAFeather similar personalities and shared interest in Pokémon contests.]] Their cameo together in episode 132 shows they have indeed met and are competing in contests alongside each other.
* CastingGag: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Alternate Ash is voiced by Creator/GabrielRamos, Ash's original voice actor in that region.
* ChannelHop: A step above your typical example, as, whereas other series have been shown on [=TV=], this one (in the US at least) is a Netflix series.
* CrossRegionalVoiceActing: Previously, the dubbing was handled at [=DuArt=] Media Services in New York City. Beginning with this series, it is handled by Iyuno-SDI Group, located in Burbank, California, partnering with New York-based Goldcrest Post. This means this series now has talent from both New York and Los Angeles working on the show whereas previous entries used either or, depending on the project[[labelnote:*]]The anime, early voiced video games and commercials use the New York pool, with side projects such as ''Anime/PokemonOrigins'' and ''WebAnimation/PokemonTwilightWings'', as well as recent game projects and ''Film/PokemonDetectivePikachu'' use the LA voice pool. The only exception before this being the Creator/KidsWB promos where all the characters in the promos retain their regular voice actors, be they from New York, LA or Vancouver.[[/labelnote]]
* InMemoriam: [=JN093=] was the final recording that Creator/BillyKametz did for the show before he passed away. The episode was dedicated to his memory. Fittingly enough, it was a focus episode of one of the characters he voiced.
* MarthDebutedInSmashBros: The episode [[Recap/PokemonS24E17ThrashOfTheTitans "Thrash of the Titans!"]] features a brief fantasy sequence to Iris's Gible and Clair, a nod to her special during the ''XY'' series, but that episode only aired in Asia. So technically, for audience in the West, Iris's Gible makes his first appearance in this series.
* TheOriginalDarrin:
** In the Latin Spanish dub, Gerardo Del Valle returns to voice Gary Oak, like he did in the original series. Likewise, Alfredo Leal returns to voice Tracey Sketchit for the final episode.
** After being replaced by Craig Blair for his Battle Frontier appearances, Ted Lewis reprises his role as Tracey.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Creator/TsuguoMogami succeeded the late Creator/UnshoIshizuka as Gary's Blastoise. Likewise, Ishizuka's role as Gary's Electivire is now played by Creator/KentaMiyake, the voice actor for Paul's Electivire.
** Creator/ShogoSakata replaced Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi as Cynthia's Garchomp.
** ''[=JN032=]'' is the first time that Creator/YoshitsuguMatsuoka provided the voice for Raihan, as Creator/TatsuhisaSuzuki was taking a hiatus from the entertainment industry at the time.
** Mallow is voiced by Emily Cramer instead of Rebecca Soler, her Sun and Moon voice actor.
** Volkner is now voiced by Creator/GriffinPuatu instead of Eli James.
** Commander Jupiter is now voiced by Creator/KiraBuckland instead of Eileen Stevens.
** Creator/AlysonLeighRosenfeld voices Clemont's Dedenne is the English dub, instead of reusing Megumi Satou like in the ''XY'' series. The same applies for Ash's Bayleef, who's voiced by Michele Knotz instead of Creator/MikaKanai. Likewise, another unrevealed actor replaces Pete Zarustica as Ash's Glalie, and yet another unrevealed actor replaces Creator/TomWayland (who was [[RoleEndingMisdemeanor fired]] from the series previously) as Ash's Gible, with Bill Rogers taking over from him and Abe Goldfarb who did the role in the ''Sun and Moon'' series as Boldore, and Creator/ZenoRobinson took over for Alex Haynes as Ash's Talonflame.
** Creator/AnairisQuinones took over as Iris starting in the Masters Eight arc from Eileen Stevens.
** Carter Cathcart aka Creator/JimmyZoppi, the original voice of Gary Oak, the third voice of James and Meowth, and the second voice of Professor Oak, was forced to retire from voice acting due to throat cancer. As such, James and Meowth have a new actor for "This Could Be The Start Of Something Big!", with his last performance as Oak being in "Heroes Unite!" before being replaced by Creator/MickWingert. For the dub of ''To Be A Pokémon Master'', this will also apply to his role as Gary, and several of Ash's Pokemon (Muk, Snorlax, Swellow, Torkoal, Torterra, and Palpitoad).
** Following the death of Billy Kametz, the roles of Ash's Rotom Phone, Goh's Inteleon and Ren in the English dub would be taken over by Barrett Leddy.
* PosthumousCredit: Some of the late Creator/UnshoIshizuka's dialogue is recycled for a few of his previous roles, such as Ash's Kingler and Brock's Steelix.
* RealLifeRelative:
** Alain and Chloe's Japanese voice actors, Creator/KenshoOno and Creator/KanaHanazawa are married to each other in real life.
** Leon and Marnie's English dub voice actors, Creator/AlejandroSaab and Creator/HaydenDaviau are also married to each other in real life.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: May and Max had no lines when they reappeared due to May's voice actress KAORI having semi-retired from voice acting following health complications with her larynx, as well as Max's original voice actress having flat out retired from the industry all together. As such, they have no dialogue in the English dub.
* SerendipityWritesThePlot: Iris and Cilan both appear in the series, but not together unlike most of the other traveling groups the series has had in previous series. This is because both Creator/AoiYuki and Creator/MamoruMiyano are both very expensive, so most episodes did not have the budget to have them both appear. While Iris did appear in the Masters' Tournament that had a larger cast than other episodes, other characters being required to be there ensured Cilan wouldn't be there.
* ShortRunInPeru: The English dub aired in Canada and the United Kingdom first due to airing episodes weekly on TV whereas in the U.S., they were released in 12-episode batches on Netflix.
* TrollingCreator: Serena and Dawn are two of the most popular female companions, whose status as major shipping targets with Ash which riled up audiences when it was revealed past companions will return. During their reappearances, Ash is subjected to many RunningGags that delay his meeting with them until the very end of the episode despite having plenty of screentime with previous characters like Gary or Iris. Dawn at least had several more appearances which gave her more interactions with Ash. Not so with Serena beyond a voiceless cameo.
* TroubledProduction: In early October 2022, an animator would confirm what many fans had suspected with a rush of weekly breaks and recap episodes towards the end of ''Journeys'': [[https://twitter.com/Mootmonthly/status/1576321303476256768?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1576321303476256768%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url= the animation studio is having trouble, specifically from a lack of animators]].
* YouSoundFamiliar:
** Billy Kametz voices Ren, Inteleon, and Ash's Rotom Phone in one of the last roles he played before his death. Previously, he had voiced Blue Oak (the game counterpart to Ash's old rival Gary Oak) in ''VideoGame/PokemonMastersEX''.
** Before taking over the role of Professor Oak from Creator/JimmyZoppi, Creator/MickWingert previously voiced Ghetsis in ''Masters''.
